Per Peter Thiel's quote that "Freedom is not compatible with democracy" he means "freedom for billionaires to do as they please is not compatible with democracy" because democracies have those pesky rules and laws that consider, at least in theory, everyone equal. Thiel thinks he is some kind of superhman ordained by providence and should be treated like a demigod. Thiel, Musk, Trump - they are all narcissists. Their success, rather than being something that instills gratitude in them, makes them believe they are superior in basic dignity and worth than anyone else. They obviously are more talented. They obviously are more successful. But they believe this translates as superior intrisic worth.

He only made connections once he got to Yale, and he deserved those connections in part because he came from such a hard life. Read his book and watch his pre-nomination interviews yourself. He understands that solving these problems is difficult. He leans right, but he listens and understands the left. Sandra: It is my impression that Canada never had a Civil War over slavery. MAGA stems from USA's colonial legacy from slavery. Also, part of what fuels MAGA is the displacement of middle aged white men from employment in agriculture as agribusiness bought up inherited homestead farms. Many of the families have had time to spend that money, and too many did not invest in obtaining new job skills. The Red States have few job skills retraining programs. Another difference between our cultures that might protect you from a movement like MAGA is that people 50 and older have great difficulty gaining employment because health insurance premiums skyrocket at 50. Large numbers of employers don't want to pay the huge premiums for health care insurance that 50+ year old employees cost. The Canadian economy does not have that problem because you have a government provided health care system. MAGA has been reported as having a core of disappointed, middle aged men who have never attended college and who are upset about not making progress in their lives. Many of them are white supremacists who are not mainstream in what they value. Canada dies not have lots of that complex of problems. Red States have highly selfish economies that feature low minimum wages, underfunded public education, and weak social services. Their consumer economies lack liquidity. Canadians have the reputation and give the impression of being more concerned with helping each other. Also, Canada also already has a relationship with a living monarchy. Canada does not require a rival to the king the Canadian public already knows. So Canada is protected in many ways from a MAGA sort of movement. Canada is already more like the USA Blue States, where MAGA is NOT very popular. Keep in mind that what you see in the media about MAGA and Trump is very largely propaganda hype. In all the time since 2015, I personally have had 3 American men yell at me (all in public) about their devotion to Trump and MAGA. I walked away from them, and we no longer converse in any subject. There is no justification for continuing to interact with hysterical, verbally abusive guys. One of them was in his 40s. The other 2 are in their 60s. They are not representative of the USA. Canada is more likely safe from MAGA.

I can tell ya this…..If these men are successful, I give it 6 months…if that…and this pawn will be POTUS. I’m an old woman, but I have five sons and 5-1/2 ☺️ grandchildren (two granddaughters) and I’m very anxious. I became an evangelical fundamentalist in CA in ‘81, early on in this current CN movement. I got out years ago, and when I saw which “christian” leaders were by *his* side, it made me ill. It really was going to happen. I wish people had listened to me and others in 2015, instead of calling us overly dramatic. But they didn’t, so we are here now and we’ll see how it goes. It all seems very coordinated as events have unfolded over the past three weeks thereabouts (and I mean including some Dems, as well). I will also say that, as a native hillbilly, I didn’t appreciate Vance’s fraudulent “memoir” and couldn’t stomach more than 15 minutes of that awful movie (wth Ron Howard?).
