I am a 14 yr old, as a younger child I LOVED the story of snowwhite so much so that I wore her dress to daycare 😂. I feel like some people don’t realise that Snow White wasn’t made to say that Snow White is weak and needs a man to save her. The whole film imo is supposed to show how brave she is to almost being murdered and running through a terrifying forest and find shelter in a new place. She is not “inferior” for tidying up the house a bit or cooking for the seven dwarves. She uses her kindness to exchange keeping clean of the dwarves house for her to find shelter there. In my eyes she’s a fucking girl boss even in 1937. Side note, Ofc in the end she needed a man to save her but honestly I don’t think she could’ve resurrected herself to be like “I AM THE MAN!” WHY CAN US KIDS JUST BE ABLE TO DREAM ABOUT BEING KIND AND FINDING OUR TRUE LOVE? It's a common theme in fairytales and it's often an escapist fantasy because romance and chivalry isn't very realistic in America anymore and both men and women are responsible for it, but people acting like it's backwards or wrong are seeing a fairytale as something sexist.

It's such an odd thing, this narrative that fairy tales are sexist against women. In classic fairy tales like Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty, the real heroes are women because Cinderella's Fairy Godmother is the one who provides the means for Cinderella to go to the ball in order to meet the Prince, and when Sleeping Beauty is cursed at her christening, it's a good fairy who alters it so that she won't die but instead will wake up when given a kiss of true love by a prince. In Beauty and the Beast, it's the woman who saves the man. And not that it's a romantic fairy tale, but in Hansel and Gretel, it's Gretel who pushes the Witch into the oven and rescues both herself and her brother. Fairy tales aren't nearly as misogynistic as they've been made out to be.

Notice how Snow White in the movie Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs also made their Snow White a smart, tough, and independent woman. She also quite became a leader in their version. But even though she possess all those "modern" characteristics she too eventually fell in love with a guy (prince) while on her journey to fight the Evil Queen. So her original goal/dream was not finding true love, rather it was saving her father and defeating the Evil Queen. Only that on her way to achieve that goal she eventually found her true love. What's weird is that no one complained about this movie's Snow White retelling but now almost everyone is hating on Disney's Snow White retelling. 😢

They didn't cast her on accident, she's from a generation that is defined by toxic consumerism, and they are being taught that "feminism" means being single, self sufficient, and being a leader - AKA working yourself dry in a profit-centered industry and contributing to capitalism because profit is the only thing that matters in this late stage dying economy where it's every person for themself. Everyone talks about how women in the mid 1900s married and stayed unemployed solely because "they were forced to by the patriarchy," and while that is true, it is far from the whole truth - nobody thinks about the fact that it was also because single income households were actually POSSIBLE (at least in the USA) back then, because the economy wasn't screwed up yet. Women didn't just find a partner and stay home because they had to, they found a partner and stayed home because they COULD. I'm a millennial woman in my 30s now, and I was honestly like her too - I finished college, and I was convinced that the only respectable thing to do was to become a workaholic and rely on nobody but myself. That got old fast, and I was miserable. After I met my partner, my life changed in so many positive ways, and I actually became my best self because I let someone in. I realized that self sufficiency isn't all it's cracked up to be. It works for some, and that's great, but to say that it is "dated" to think otherwise is equally as misogynistic as saying that all women should stay in the kitchen.

My feelings about this remake and Rachel Zegler are all over the place. I will say that the role should’ve been given to an actress who actually respects Snow White’s original character because understanding the character your playing is key in order to have a good performance. Rachel doesn’t even have to like Snow White’s original soft spoken,kind, romantic, and introverted personality, but still respect her. I do understand why Rachel would take the role even though she doesn’t like Snow White.I would play any character I saw as annoying in a heartbeat if it meant I was going to get a Disney paycheck. With that being said,too many people are hating on Rachel because of the character changes that being made by writers and the creative team.It’s not Rachel’s fault that this remake is going to drastically changed Snow White’s character. I don't understand all the hate for Rachel Zegler. I love the original too but other people are still allowed to have criticisms of it. It makes me more excited to see her interpretation of the role because it means she's planning to show us a different version of the character, making it more likely the film will have something new to say. So many of these remakes are too close to their originals to justify themselves, so I'm seeing this as a good sign.
