Right lmao. I had this video in a playlist, letting them all play thru in full screen & not reading any comments on any videos. The first time I heard it mentioned, I just kinda chuckled and scoffed. Once I realized it kept being repeated, I knew I had to stop and read these comments 😂 Mind you, this was the reaction the that blessed innocence of an assumption from me, as an American who hasn't even ever been to England specially, though have been to France, the other assumption. I think it's more of a mental thing that radiates, more than blatant/verbal or physical insults like the bird all the time for anything at all. Almost makes it lose its offense, I felt The Sting of it all more in France lol.

it's not... trust me it's not AT ALL! how can you live in peace with countries like: North Korea? Saudi Arabia? Afghanistan? You hippies think you live with peace with them and then they stab you in the back. Live in peace with countries that want it too but don't forget to fight against your enemies.
@BeautyTheRagDoll8 жыл бұрын
seriously did you have to put this on here? John Lennon once said imagine all the people living life in peace. Humanity makes war over silly things like opinions or faith. No one race is perfect and unless you're a Nazi maybe you should give them all a chance. Not ALL North Korean people are bad they just have strict government and laws. Same goes for most countries it isn't the mass populous that is ill willed it is the governing body. There's nothing hippie about wanting to respect life and individuality. It's actually intellect to learn and grow from diversity.
@sexyadolf61368 жыл бұрын

I had watched a youtuber video talked about his experiences as a abroad student in Japan. In that video he said that he was told to quit his part-time job and go back to his country because the japanese didn't really like the people of the country which he came from. He also read some of the comments on the internet which were written by foreigners including the japanese and badmouth about his nation and its people ( their inteligent, height, smell, violate,...). He said he was shocked about how many people assumed that his country was bad without even really know a little about the country. I was pretty shock as also because I was always love and respect the japanese culture. But then I had a second though, the man or some people said so didn't mean that is real because after that the youtuber said he was cheered up and apologized by other japanese after hearing the problem, and he also said that he had great experience with his friends and girlfriend (who were also japanese) and they had great experience when being with him too. He ended saying that he had stopped working a that foodstall and he was sad but he didn't think japanese people were really like what the man ment because he was helped by a japanese that day; and because he told himself not to assume other people just because of a person ar something you might had heard when you haven't know anything about it.
@ribendende7 жыл бұрын
Hate to be a pessimist, but the politeness isn't always that sincere, it comes natural like a reflex. Dont be naïve to assume that a polite Japanese person is also a person who thinks positively about you. On top of that there are plenty of Japanese who don't like foreigners. I've experienced it myself as well, especially at small shops. A small granny shopowner who literally blocked the entrance and wouldn't allow me in xD I was laughing my ass off and enjoyed their creative ways to discrimate me.

Im japanese and i will say we like the happy but polite types who know the term restraint of white foreigners, you know the ones who give it there best to learn the culture? The ones who go there and expect to be treated like guests, try and peacock themselves around and have everyone else adapt to them are the ones who get snubbed. It also helps that you have a japanese friend. To us you look exotic but unapproachable, but with a japanese friend talking and walking with you it makes you look approachable but in a way that we really want to know your story. Also the best way to learn japanese is by using it everyday, i have my family here so japanese is all we speak to each other, but my parents will tell you that since it's been a while since they went to a all japanese enviroment, they have started to forget a few japanese things (or old age lol).

Where does this stereotyping come from? Is it a holdover from the Meiji restoration when European countries like France and Britain were admired and used as a model of what a 'modern' country should look like?

+Repo Same here! (The shoes part not the Netherlands one)In fact when relatives or family friends come at your home they take their shoes off but its considered rude to let them do this since it basically is translated as "you are getting my house dirty, disturbing and annoying me, get out!" and the funny part is that its also rude to enter a house with your shoes on so there is a little imposted scene between the guest and the host when they both insist on doing the opposite actions and it always ends up by finally taking the shoes off and wearing some warm slippers, which were originally bought to be worn by guests. In a normal 4 people family the shoe cabbinet (right word?) has like 10 pairs of slippers inside because here guests almost always come in groups of 4 or 6.

I really do hope you make more videos like these as they are entertaining and fun to watch and really helps me learn about how Japan works. I also find you and Jun really interesting people and I have noticed how much effort you put into making these videos. I think it is awesome that all of these are not only free but you also make these in your spare time and I do wish for the best of both of you. This makes me feel better about learning about Japanese culture. People keep telling me not to because it offensive or whatever so it's nice to see this :)
@ThogTheBoss8 жыл бұрын
It's not supposed to be offensive. It's the fact that there's WEEABOOS who think they're Japanese and then ending up looking like assholes.
@boodledemic64308 жыл бұрын
Sigh mhm exactly. and then people automatically think i'm a weeb - u - oh well
@NaSaDaism8 жыл бұрын
Having a genuine desire to learn about another culture is never offensive or rude. Try not to put too much weight on words like that. You know the intent behind your desire to learn, and having an honest interest is a fantastic thing. I think the only time being engaged in another culture could be considered offensive is if a person goes to the extent of being 'mocking' or disrespectful about it. Like, there's a big difference between say, learning about cultures in some of the African countries (an awesome thing) and participating in black-face (which is bs bcus it's meant to mock a whole people based on skin colour).
@ThogTheBoss8 жыл бұрын
NaSaDaism There's nothing wrong with wanting to learn about a new culture, but the thing is, there are people who are called "weeaboos". 9 times out of 10 your generic weeaboo is not really into Japanese culture, but into the Anime/Otaku culture, which is a subset of Japanese culture. Anime and Otaku culture is kind of a niche thing in Japan, think the same way My Little Pony is in the west. Does My Little Pony represent western culture accurately? Not entirely, to say the least. Its an idealized view glossing over all the bad and practical parts of the western point of view. *Sorry if this is long. I tried to keep it as brief as possible.*
@NaSaDaism8 жыл бұрын
Hey there~ I'm well aware of the existence of weeaboos and the negative way they pursue what they consider Japanese Culture. That's why, in my response, I specified that having an honest/genuine desire to learn about another culture is fantastic. Weeaboos who base 95% + of their view of Japanese culture on anime don't really have a genuine interest in Japanese culture, but (as you said) the otaku sub-culture. That's a pretty clear division for me. An honest interest in Japanese culture that stems from a desire to learn about the country and it's people and their customs is absolutely fine. When it stems from an interest in a very small subculture that the person delves into to an unhealthy extent and is being treated as though that subculture is the be-all-end-all of the country's culture, that's another thing entirely that is much more questionable.

Here here! As an Argentinian , we also disagree. Today is my country's Independence Day. One of our favourite stories (we learn it in elementary school) is when England came through the port to conquer us -the year before they were stoped before they got to us by the uruguayans- and while the men fought the women of Buenos Aires started to throw boiling water from the windows to the soldiers. They left. We won.

cassiemichelle03 I agree on a general note, my parents went to France one time for a week, and they couldn't say they were from Seattle, Washington because of that murder trial or whatever is going on over in France, and if they had said that's where they were from they'd've gotten quite the ugly treatment. As it was, they got a lot of rude people just because they were American and people stereotyping them, despite my parents being some of the nicest people around.
@kazimo780110 жыл бұрын
cassiemichelle03 They really dislike those who aren't French, just Americans in general. The French have never been fond of Americans, which you can't blame them. Most countries aren't fond of Americans because of how rude some Americans are when going to other countries. It unfortunately gives any good Americans a bad rep. People have to remember that they represent their country when they go to visit foreign places.

Unlike all other youtuber video that only gives a dreamy and unrealistic everyday cheerful environment. With the noisy wind and sound of the leaves and the red bricks as background, really shows that not everyday you’ll get to have the most fitting background music while you’re walking down the streets of japan. That is the perfect world that we are actually living in.

Why is everyone so butthurt. I experience more xenophobia from British people than Japanese that are so 'famously' unfriendly. Just because they didnt specifically name your country and gush about it...

This gal has a point. Just like anyone anywhere else, not all countries always come to mind, and the ones that do tend to have to do with what a person studies and their own likes and experiences. Would /you/ name every country, or know just what one to name to make sure that country wouldn't get offended? And would you even be thinking about it when asked a casual question? Probably not.

If I had to be honest, I would also be racist in how I chose my "favorite countries." My perspective, like one of most everyone else, is based on stereotypes. Maybe if I stayed for an extended period in a culture I would grow to appreciate it, but much of how I feel about other cultures is based on immigrants here in America, short vacations, or even mass media. My appreciation for the Arabs is obscured by the propaganda we get here that they are all completely sexist, fundamentalist, and selfish, but I am sure the first Arab I meet would be a very nice one. I don't have feelings for Africans because I have never seen a non-African American African. It's all about perspective. I hear so many people say the Japanese are racist, but I have seen my fair share of racists from other cultures (I mean, I had to spend an extended period in the American Southeast!).

Just goes to show how powerful stereotypes are in influencing social discourse. I met white people who thought I spoke 'click click' language and assumed private education had taught me how to use a knife and fork. SERIOUSLY. It's admirable of you to be so honest. We've all got to check ourselves, myself included.

Henry Lee I got to agree. I lived in the UK for 4 years, and I am Indian. What I see is the case among, really, any "racist" community is that it's almost always the older people or poorer people who are racist, and even then it's a minority because not all old or poor people are racists. Young middle class people are very open (then again they tend to be the most liberal of society), and generally kids are not racist unless they make a joke they do not understand. And it's not just the UK. Hell, in India people are more racist than the British, especially towards Muslims or poor people (let's just count discrimination based on social class as "racism", even though it's not). The pattern is that you find the least racist people in the liberal group, though a majority of white conservatives are not racist (and I am speaking about global conservatives, not US or UK, because American or British conservatives tend to be better than, say, Muslim conservatives). And all of what I am saying are still generalizations in their own respect. Just as long as kids keep getting praise for being "naive" about racial differences than scorn, society can only get better.

That guy at the end was real hot in the previous video he was in, and he's even hotter in this one. Keep slaying, man.
