Greatest vocalist ever. I tell people to go listen to her sing “I know You Love Me”, “Nothing has ever felt”(duet with Will Downing), or the live album version of “I’m Special” with the late great George Duke on piano and “I can explain” which is 8 minutes long, and both songs are off of the “Live In Montreaux” at the Montreaux Jazz Festival back in 1995 if not mistaken. I dare anyone to listen to the actual album version of I can explain and understand that it is Rachelle sitting playing piano on that song while hitting those ridiculous notes live and then tell me who’s better at any time in music history. People forget that she is classically trained pianist and I she plays the violin as well. It was said at a performance that Patti LaBelle and Chaka Khan once bowed to her. Anita Baker is on record and video on stage saying she wants to be Rachelle Ferrell when she grows up.🤣 Ledisi says that Rachelle is everything to her and she owed everything to Rachelle and has taught her the most. I went to a Rachelle Ferrell concert at the Wilturn Theater in Los Angeles back in the day were Ledisi was the opening act and they did a duet. Rachelle has always been Ledisi’s teacher, and biggest supporter. Kelly Price says she’s a Rachelle Ferrell groupie and Jill Scott says that no one can touch Rachelle Ferrell. The real singers and real fans of Rachelle know the truth. Rachelle is unmatched and unequaled in her vocal ability and her artistry and she writes and prods all of her material and plays piano on all of her albums and concerts. GOAT……PERIOD!!

I have never experienced a vocalist who can do what she does. Bobby McFerrin (also one to be analyzed) might be one of the few even in her category. Totally underrated by the larger mass, and I think it’s because some don’t GET what she’s doing with her phenomenal instrument. I was so excited to hear your analysis of this song! Even though she is more of a jazz singer, this song was played on the R&B stations. She didn’t get the love and recognition that she deserved.
