H'YELLO. Dost thou crave a whimsical project? Well I sure did.
Winter has gotten be feelin' stressy and depressy so I wanted to make a purely fantastical and joyful make. I saw this cheap witch hat online and I thought it would be the perfect thing to remake... but better.
I gathered my foam of various kinds, tinfoil, will to become a swamp hag, and GOT TO WORK.
ANYWHO I hope you all enjoy!

I’m the same age as you. I literally grew up in the town that the woman who wrote the riddles for I, Spy lived in, (and it was a REALLY small town) so as a child I didn’t really have a concept of the books being THAT ubiquitous to people our age’s childhood because I kind of felt like she was only a local celebrity. Then I got to college. And oh my god. But yeah, I, Spy: Spooky Mansion is literally the explanation behind why half my home decor looks the way it does, so whimsical and formative.

No, Rachel, not Temu! Please don't. You have to know how bad they are (stolen designs, security concerns, packages not getting delivered and then no recourse because the pop-up scammy sellers have already cycled accounts by then, etc.). Instead of buying it, you could have just made your own from the image. The hat ended up super cute though. How heavy is it?
@SkyeAten
@SkyeAten 5 ай бұрын
I also thought she could have just used the image, there's no point in actually buying the product from Temu... It will literally go straight to the trash. (Like all their products). I'm sure she knows about it's terrible reputation... I'm dissapointed honestly. The thing is I don't think she bought just one product, I think she did a haul and just got the hat on the side for the video... it doesn't make sense that you just use the website for that one hat... But I would be sad to think she bought more off that site.

Yeah I agree. I was dissapointed. She must have thought "well, it's just one product".. but it's still sends the wrong message. Even if everyone bought just "one product", it would still end up being millions in total... There have also been cases where Temu made unauthorized withdrawals on people's cards, so the website isn't even safe. Their products are such low quality that doesn't even withstand one use. None of it is ethically produced. It all inevitably ends up in a landfill somewhere. Also apparently Temu absolutely spams creators to buy from their website for promotion... Although I don't think she gave in that far at least...I hope.

Spectacular Maksy hat vs. the Temu Craptacular. (BTW, keep in mind Temu doesn't have the safety standards that U.S. products have so beware of toxic chemicals and flammability). Suggestion: Hang a vintage blackboard on the wall and when you run out of a supply, add it to the board i.e. contact cement. Always wash any fabrics/clothes you buy before you use them. The amount of toxic chemicals that are sprayed on them before they are sold is staggering. I have MCS (multiple chemical sensitivity) and I soke all clothes in baking soda and water for at least 24 hours before washing. Alot of clothes deflect the water because of chemicals and the baking soda helps brake down the chemicals

New texture technique to try for you, something I've been doing for years for rock and bark texture. Take some tinfoil and spray it down with some pam cooking spray. Crinkle it up lightly (more crinkled for rocky textures) and then spread it out again. Lay down a bed of hot glue on another sheet of pam-y tinfoil (or a silicone mat) and then press the pre-scrunched tinfoil into the glue. Let it cool down and then carefully peal away the tinfoil. You'll be left with a sheet of textured hot glue that you can now use for whatever. Slap some paint on it or even alcohol ink if you want it to remain translucent. Or use the tinfoil in situ to texture the hot glue in place. Excellent for incorporating LEDs into say, a bark covered wizard staff without visible wires or LEDs. Or really to hide transitions between any materials. As I've said, I've used this technique to make rock, and bark texture, but also faux flames, gems and even to make temporary molds for UV resin and epoxy clay out of hot glue. (Though they don't last very long with the resin due to the heat of resin curing. But usually good enough for one or two pulls) The same sheet of textured hot glue covered in sparkly nail polish can turn the inside of a jewelry box into a crystal cave. Or cover it in yellow spray paint and dry brush some red and black on top to make a lava base for a little demon doll. Honestly, with cooking spray, tinfoil and some hot glue, you can make some really amazing things.

love this concept! except it makes me sad that the shitty cheaply made thing has still been bought and shipped (signalling to the manufacturer that there's demand for this sort of thing), only to be destroyed and (presumably) thrown away. would it not be possible to remake it from the pictures on the website, and creating a little less trash in the process?

@@averyjeanne I do agree with you and I know Rachel meant no harm; she's a sweetheart. But she has a large viewership and just the fact that she is shopping on Temu may influence others to do so. Because I have an issue with Temu from an ethical, economic and environmental standpoint, I dislike it and won't support the 'company'. It's NOT her duty to censor herself or avoid purchasing from specific businesses just to please others. My original comment was simply a mild tease in the hopes that anyone who doesn't know how Temu actually works and why the prices are so low might further look into it.

I have a video idea suggestion. When I do projects I often have left over fabric scraps that are to large to just throw away. And I keep them just in case I ever need them. But I rarely do so I have a box full of them. So you could maybe show us what you to with them or try some ideas from the internet for fabric scraps.

But looking back at my childhood the amount of times I spent in graveyards looking at people's death dates for my mom's family tree records it's no wonder I liked the macabre. And she had questioned where my Gothic 'phase' came from 🤣
