My favorite episode in one of my favorite sitcoms. "It gets dark when you leave the room." "How can I stay mad at you when you say things like that..."

And then in 2021, Facebook added an AI image recognition script that identified african males are primates. Yikes... Guess they did the same amount of testing as Veridian!

I love how the board was confused when he first brought up that their model would end up employing everyone in the world but, when they say they don’t have the parking they all get it.

The show was great, smartly written...reminded me a bit of arrested development as the cast complemented each other

I hate they cancelled this show. This episode was so funny and sad at the same time. Lots to learn as well as to laugh at here.

That show was way ahead of its time, there are problems with facial recognition of black people to this day. Looking at you, google!

I'd say it reflected the times it was made in. There was a problem with cameras that came with HP computers the year before this episode came out. You were supposed to be able to walk around a room, and the camera was supposed to track you and zoom in on your face. It worked with white people, but not with black people. Cameras work on light, it's just physics.

Here in the south of the US we still have trouble understanding underlying racism. This ep is probably one of the best commentaries on this.

This show was so ahead of its time. Definitely in my top 10 shows of all time. I would subscribe to a streaming service that only played this show.

Ahead of its time? Oh, please. They wouldn't *dare* make a show like this today. Days of yore, eh?

Notice how really smart comedy is always cancelled, while brainless crap runs for decades. They don't want us to think.

I think it’s less some conspiracy and more that they completely botched the scheduling. There were a lot of sitcom blocks on the time, and around the time Better Off Ted came out, they were shifting the scheduling blocks constantly. I think Better Off Ted just got shifted in which block it was in (from like a Monday block to a Thursday block), but it wasn’t communicated well, so people didn’t know when to watch it. As a result it’s ratings fell, and it was given the axe, even though it was adored by both critics and audience. This happened to a lot of good shows, sadly. Ironically, the show about soulless committees and boards not understanding how humans work was cancelled because of soulless committees and boards not understanding how humans work.

Stiff competition. After that major writers strike in '06. There was surge in all popular shows, and a spam fest of Pilots. Then there time slot made it hard to keep up with. Then they pulled the ol' Futurama on them. Where a few episodes weren't aired sequence, so it became hard to follow.
