There was a no bag policy, the man should have followed it or shopped elsewhere. Instead he committed criminal trespass. Black and brown folks with bags or backpacks are watched and followed more times than whites in stores. Yet a white woman with a huge bag or purse or a white man wearing a suit and briefcase would not be told to leave their belongings at the register. I see this type of stuff all the time. If it wasn't a racially motived profiling, then the cashier could have just stated policy and let the customer pay, and let them know, next time to please follow policy. But she made it an issue and had to call the police. Why call the police just because someone had a bag. No crime was committed. Having a backpack is not a crime. The customer was going to pay.

Apparently you don’t know the law. The person taking this video was trespassing, plain and simple. He even admits that he was asked to leave a didn’t do so. As he is parking to the police he changes his story, first he’s ther to buy hair products, then he was there to purchase a juice. A summons in this instance is in lieu of arrest. If you can’t be identified then you are placed under arrest to determine your identity. If you have nothing to hide why not identify yourself? The police respond to the call if you feel that you’re being harassed, profiled whatever, that’s why there’s a court of law! If I were the officer responding he would have been placed under lawful arrest, taken into custody,gotten identified and released if he didn’t have any pending warrants. My opinion the responding officers empowered this person to think that he’s does not have to ID himself.

The saddest thing is, by Dollar Tree's policy and procedures standards that employee with testicles is 100% wrong. Employees can't: Accuse someone of shoplifting. It would be kind of like if you commit a crime in the mall, they can kick you out of the entire mall, not just the one store that you commit a crime in. I don't know if they actually spoke with the owner(s) or not regarding this, but it is possible. It sounds like they had spoke with the owner recently or previously, but it's also possible that they hadn't. What I do know is that they could have arrested him, then he would have been unable to access every shopping center in the city as he would be in jail.
