Racing at Goodwood for the first time since 1993 in my Jaguar Project 8. 2023 GRRC Spring Sprint

It's been 30 years since I last entered a competitive sprint at Goodwood but I reckoned the Jaguar Project 8 might be the perfect car to do it in. So a few weeks ago, I entered the GRRC Goodwood Spring Sprint in the over 2-litre road-going class. The race was last weekend and you can see how it got on here...

Agreed. An extremely well rounded gentleman, which is reflected in his presentation style and content. In all of my KZbin subscriptions in diverse interests of food, bicycle road racing and training, art, architecture, music, etc, etc, Harry will always be one of my favourites. For those who haven't driven at full attack, Harry's last lap is what it is really like. You're talking to yourself, guessing how late and how hard you can brake... you're urging the car on, assessing, assessing and obsessing every motion and corner, you no longer think; its just attack, adjust and look ahead and then... its over. The adrenaline makes you shake and feel giddy and you want to go again. You will note that on the last lap Harry was on and off the throttle, this is the "ragged edge" where the car begins to slide, on/off as you hover on the edge,... Brilliantly communicated Harry. That last lap...? I really felt I was there! Thankyou Sir!!

There is always that feeling of being there with you - you have a distinct and unique ability to bring us wherever you go - from a Silverstone auction, to a meeting in London, tSprint day at Goodwood to across the globe on two wheel or four. Its a testimony to what can be done with this platform. When you were told to take the helmet camera down, momentarily my heart sank, but of course, no compromise to the footage - ever the professional, another incredible in-car shot (Love onboard content - nothing takes us along better). Automotive content doesn’t get better than this - we are spoilt with wonderful content, long may your desire to make it continue.

Great video absolutely caught what the day was like! We were there in our MINI R53, which is actually my partners day car, true grassroots stuff! I would urge anyone interested in doing motorsport to try sprints and hillclimbs. They are great fun and often, particularly in the case of hillclimbs, take place in historic and beautiful settings. The people who take part are friendly and will share their experiences and at the end of the day, there is beer to be had!

I remember that day well in 1993. I absolutely wrang the neck of my 309GTi. Then I tried taking St Mary's flat in 5th. Apexed it with the front wheels on the grass and the rears on the tarmac but still got it through the next left hander. Peter Sacree was less lucky and ended in the barriers

Did some sprinting in a manky old Celica 190 (when you could buy them for £500). Javelin sprint series - was absolutely brilliant, the people (helping each other out), banter, circuits…. . “Support / Tools” in a simple cheap tent each day - just fantastic fun 🏁 Had my leggy (175k) 996 C2 aligned at spires after seeing your video - Mat was superb and the car feels miles better, so thank you.

They still get arsey about cameras at Goodwood? Years ago I was offered a ride round. Snapped a few seconds of video on the way round (nobody had said anything) and then got a right telling off at the end from a marshal. Rather spoiled the day and since the marshal had seen me holding the camera on the start line I rather felt it was their mistake and not mine! No signs, no warnings. How am I as a newcomer supposed to know? Felt like an old boys club where you are just expected to know these things! Still comes back to me when I see this footage of the place today!

I was amused by the Harrys noise test at Goodwood when the marshall said '90dB'. I was frowned at when I did my test as it was 105dB. I was behind Harry at the start for the last timed run when he set off. 90dB my ar**!

The best Corporate day I ever had was spent hooning around Goodwood in 5 different sports cars under tuition. Started off with Vectra SRi to learn the layout, braking points etc and finishing off with my dream LHD Porsche 911 Turbo. A cold, dry, sunny Winter's morning and a day I'll never forget.

Hay Harrison, we do our club sprint racing differently here in Sydney. We drive out of the pits 1 warm up lap and 2 or 3 flying laps. Best lap gives you best time for that run. Also, we go 2 cars and another 2 cars 30 seconds apart. It’s good stuff. Keep up the great vids. You reakon you could ever do a story on a Europa Type 47. My favourite Lotus

Harry, I was there in 83/84 with my home built special with a Jag engine. Best was 1.42.2, they put me in "Sports Racing/ prototypes class as it was a one off. Still managed a few trophies though. Great memories.
