I'm pretty new to sim racing, and it's helpful to see (in slow, detailed fashion) the impact that smooth braking and throttle transitions make on the corner exits. Love these videos. Keep 'em coming :) I also tend to try to always brake right before the lock-up point (non-abs vehicles), so it's interesting to see you recommend situations where you maybe only brake 50% or so. My takeaway is that it's more important to not unbalance the car than it is to maximize braking efficiency when you don't have to slow down a great deal.

Very instructive and clear, what you mentioned about the rotation and how important is to maintain the front of the car in a solid contact with the ground, not releasing the breaks too suddenly, that was nicely put. You explained the reason behind the idea "smooth is faster" and it makes perfect sense. Thank you for this very interesting video.

My only issue with the video is it can be hard to see what the driver is doing since is in a smaller window. Maybe go full-size with you overlayed in the upper right. This way we can easily see the pedal inputs, especially when viewed on a smaller display. Overall good information.

As a rally (sim) driver. I have a very hard time doing road racing since almost everything you do there is the complete opposite to what I'm used to lmao Especially when it comes to throttle application. I'm used to be able to rotate using the throttle because it's quicker. If I do it in road racing, I just end up loosing a bunch of time.

I really don't see how this adds any value to people? Its talking generically at inputs on the screen with no proof of what you're saying. If I was paying for this I would want to see you talking through comparison of a much faster time and showing me the delta (time/distance mode) where time was lost and gained and the reasonings based on the inputs made (throttle, brake, steering). This is no use at all

Videos like this are super helpful, and yes I love the mx-5 in iracing as well. I think people want to 'move on' from it because its the rookie car, but its just so fun to drive and the slow speeds can make for some really fun close racing action!

Is the ABS thing true in all games? I mainly play R3E, and the ABS is really fast to switch on in that game.
@driver61simracing10
@driver61simracing10 2 жыл бұрын
It's a good question Filip. Each sim does vary and in some instance. If your ABS does kick in quite early it might be worth looking to see if it can be turned down perhaps so it won't kick in as aggressively. You may find that you need to lean into the ABS slightly to get some initial braking, then you'd need to start releasing it to stop it getting involved too much. Hope that helps.

Lots learned from these videos nucely explained, I've been guilty of a lot of the bad habits. I would love to see your thoughts on using engine braking and short shifting in corners, Good or bad habits?
@TrashskillsRS
@TrashskillsRS 2 жыл бұрын
I think it depends on the car type and what drive you got. A downforce car wont get upset by your engine braking and a car with massive spikes in RPM in the lower gears like LMP with hybrid or some GT cars like the Porche it might be useful to short shift to not get stuck at max RPM for even a milisecond. Engine braking in a more street car or RWD no downforce car can make your back tires more loose so it is easier to slide. In cars with a huge RPM range for your gears like formula one you should never short shift.

Me braking at optimum: look at tire temps, look at brake temps and speed. If i don't know all of those, or at least have a really good idea for the temps based on practice.. not going to happen. I don't understand how people can brake so well in sims. I have my few thousand hours in, i am very good at accelerating, i am good at balancing the car, medium speed spoon type corners being my specialty.. But.. braking to hairpins is impossible. There is no feedback whatsoever about the deceleration. Specially when you do it right, which is with a flat car. There is NO information, it is just... guessing if the car stops or not in time. I can roll into corners very well, and my braking distances are longer, but i always arrive at the apex at the same time and usually exit faster. But.. i lose EVERY BRAKING ZONE. Have done so consistently since 2009.

Hi and thank you for the informative video. I am of the opinion that less is more. Meaning, least amount of braking and aiming to maintain the highest average speed would be faster. In some simm's", if you do not slide the front wheels and murder the brake pedal, you have a very slow lap time... sadly still called a "simm"

Just looking at the video isn’t that efficient since you can’t compare your data to other drivers, I would love if you had some telemetry of the lap you are judging and telemetry of a good lap to compare with.

Any recommendation for motorcycle racing? Ride4 - Motogp - Isle of man 2
@driver61simracing10
@driver61simracing10 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Andre, motorcycle racing games are a lot more tricky to work with. The main fundamental thing for MotoGP, Ride4 etc is make sure you look where you want to go 2/3 seconds up the road. Target fixation can happen very easily so making sure we are looking through the corner is a must, wherever we are looking, the bike generally will follow.
@89siver

@@driver61simracing10 Thx for the reply, i'm still struggling with the general set-up. I'm still trying to be as smooth as possible wit all the inputs. What still bothers me is the RPM during the lean. Working with Ride 4 on interlagos to try to improve my lap times. I've managed to get consistent during 10~11 laps. after that the concentration start to decline. Any channel that you can recommend on motorcycle. Already follow DrAce and Robo46. Currently on my real bike in the A group ( Mid Pack ).

@Sim Racing Stew via iRacing Simulation thank you for taking the time to reply! You have a new sub. My history in racing is limited, I have quite a bit of head knowledge but I’m only on week 2 of owning a wheel. I know basics, Optimal racing line, trail braking (even though I’m bad at it, I know it’s important), I’ve played a lot of dirt rally 2.0 on controller. I love racing and know I’ll never be at the top of the timesheets, but I do want to learn tuning in AC, but first I need to stop spinning out :l I know AC’s tire model is unforgiving, so I try to avoid curbs. I haven’t done any online racing, because at T1 I would either punt half the cars off track or spin because I hit Spa’s stupid astroturf. Thanks for the advice and I’ll use it my next practice session
