Very good pointers. A note - some older cars have strange quirks because of how they were designed and built. My 89 Accord seatbelts would only lock up under hard braking.
@jameshaulenbeek59314 жыл бұрын
@Iso Gh0sted wow, really!? That's an odd one for sure. The old accord had the belts mounted in the door and used an inertia switch to lock up the belt retractor. Once the door was closed and the belt buckled, a solenoid was energized allowing the inertia switch to operate. I only know this because I had to mess around with it one day...

My favorite used car purchases to inspect are the ones I intend to gut and modify... I get to ask all the questions and hear all the "explanations and excuses" without a care... nothing like looking in a sellers eyes for that "I think he knows _____ isn't right" look and then saying, "yeah this works for me, I'll take it"... That look of confusion in the sellers face is priceless and they are down right giddy and amenable thereafter. Funny story, a kid on my block many years ago had a 67 fastback mustang he was selling to get something new. Guy shows up to look at it and after the usual stuff asks "can it get down?".. Kid says "hop in" and takes the buyer for a quick circuit sideways and chirping the whole time... Buyer and he get back... buyers face is pale... and he passes on the car...

Tip for warped rotors: buy rotors from a place with a replacement warranty. Autozone will replace rotors if you bring them in, no questions asked. This works great if you just use good pads, but find that your rotors fall apart much more quickly than you replace brake pads. I have yet to find a brake rotor that won’t warp eventually, and I don’t know that my braking is making them warp. If they’re gonna warp anyway, I’ll just buy a set that I can replace every 2 years for free.

Its still a 4 cylinder so its not going to be a world of a difference from the Miata. But you will need help down the line. Find a Porsche specialist in your area. He means you treat the car similar to a person or something with feelings (like a puppy!). For me, I treat my car nicely and want to shift smoothly, let it warm up before I start to use more throttle, and give it 15 seconds or so when I park before turning it off. Using the inputs smoothly and not harshly. And not one of those people who immediately redline the car, shift without letting off the gas, or starting in 1st gear at 3500rpm

Oh No! Dat Wascally Wabbit is at it again! I'd suggest agreeing on a "squaring off place." Unless Wabbit insists on a second taking his place, the most likely plan Wabbit has. In fact, my old friend, Bill Shakespeare, has written extensively about dueling etiquette, so I'd make sure Wabbit reads (if he can) the rules or has them read to him with his cameraman explaining the "big words." Clearly, what Wabbit has done is an affront to all - North, South, East & West from Key West to a little bit north of Bangor, ME -- including those possessing the culture to know which plastic fork to use sitting in the parking lot of a Sonic Drive-In. Regardless of your plan to settle this with Wabbit, most feel he needs a "Good Ole Country Ass Whooping," especially if it's on his own turf. I can already visualize the look of Wabbit after gettin' his due with a head full of dirt, grit, dried hay along with whatever else is on the ground when you mop it up with his Butch Waxed head!

Casey, Explain why you personally won't back up what you started. I admire your preservation of genius garage. Your epiphany of how highly driven people are following the easiest course of their life was a revelation to me. Why are you not being the role model and example, to hell with racecar driver, that is the greatest life changing experience any of your students will have. If you start a fight and lose you have still lost with dignity and self-respect, but if you start something and walk away there is nothing to take but shame. As of now I still believe in you and I am hoping so much that I'm ignorant of something. Please help me understand my ignorance or what is more important than the lesson of credibility.
