Great stuff 🙂. I would like to add that the racing line can be different between aero and street legal cars, with aero you can select a wider curvature in order to maintain speed and downforce while on street you can go close or all the way over the apex.

Talking about clean and dirty driving, where would you put the positive yaw moment technique ? Because it's right in the middle of grip and drift, and it's used in every racing series, from the Porsche Cup to F1.
@jrmd31583 жыл бұрын
do you mean the slip angle ?
@s1nenomine3 жыл бұрын
@@jrmd3158 Well, yes but actually no. Slip angle is only the tyre deformation, when yaw moment is the différence between the direction you are going vs the one your car is facing. Positive means that you are slightly oversteering, it's at this very point that the slip angle is close to its maximum.

So I didn't get the part about ground effect? Was just the car with the fan banned ,or ground effect itself was banned. It just a little weird lol. I mean the fan cars isn't the greatest thing to introduce how this effect works . The very little space between the ground and the bottom plate of the formula ,and also the difference that space in the front and the rear makes the air move faster , making the car stick to the road
@Route7653 жыл бұрын
Ok, the fan car is banned. The skirts used for ground effect in old F1 cars is also banned. But ground effect in general is still used in F1; this is why the cars still have diffusers and floors. It’s also why floor regulations and rake is a big talking point in F1.
@sombraarthur3 жыл бұрын
Both were banned. The fan car generated huge ground effects, and then ground effects were banned in F1 until 2022, where ground effect will make a comeback.

Clean driving style with high downforce is mandatory simply because all car reactions to any loss of grip take almost super-human reflexes. It becomes like a train, either it stays on its rails or it flies off track. It's a deep loss of pleasure in controlling the car at its grip limit... At least, that's the outcome of this analysis I made a few months ago kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKCvhI2PbNqqfbM

I have one question regarding the purpose of the aerodynamic parts on a car: So it is mentioned that the front splitter or wing is utilized for cornering speed, whereas the rear wing is used for stability. The question is, what "purpose" does the underbody have ? It should be noted that the underbody of a race car produces the most amount of downforce, as well as the least amount of drag - which was why Group C cars (with the exception of the 3.5 Era cars) looked like eraser wedges. And in relation to Group C, some drivers say that despite having less downforce, the Peugeot 905B was more stable than the Nissan R90CK; with the use of a massive double rear wing might possibly have an effect on the stability, I don't know for sure. So is the underbody of a car there purely to suck the car down?
@sombraarthur3 жыл бұрын
The underbody has the effect of lowering the centre of gravity (thus giving the car a more neutral attitude in relation to yaw), while also being the primary downforce generator of the car. You first install the straight underbody, then you apply front splitters, then rear wings. Why? Because like I said, when you install the straight underbody, your car attitude to yaw changes, it becomes more neutral (depending on the inlets attached to it, you can play with how far front or how far back you want that centre of rotation), then you add the front splitters to increase the amount of cornering downforce (that is why it is so close to the ground and the canards are that far to the sides, they work best when your car is rotating, giving it a better air flow to a side than the other, frocing the yaw to happen), and then you finally add the rear wing, because this one is to stabilize the rear (given that you added a huge amount of downforce at the front and the middle of the car), because the other aerodynamic appendages made the rear of the car lighter than the rest. So you add the proper wing to counter that lack of weight at the rear, and the car has all of its sectors under a "steady and controlled airflow" (or at least a predictable one).

Drifting should never be faster. If your front tyres are countersteered, then the total cornering force into the corner is limited to the rear tyres only which means, less cornering force total and thus lower speed carrying potential.

Is it just me, or are aerodynamic grip cars significantly easier to drive? As someone who mains the Peugeot 205 T16 in DR2, it's become a habit to always push the throttle through the corners - of course anyone who races GT (3,4,E etc.) cars will know that such a maneuver is stupid and will end your race. When I try to race in cars that mainly rely on mechanical grip, I perform extremely poorly - my lap times are pure garbage (Rfactor 2) - whereas when I try to drive cars that prioritize downforce, I end up performing extremely well. I think that it really depends on driving style, be it precise and careful or flat-out through every section of the track.
@sombraarthur3 жыл бұрын
If you are pushing the throttle through the corners, you are already doing something wrong. You don't push it, you maintain it, if you are doing trail braking, and increase it along the corner. Trail braking can be done with both type of cars, and I dare to say that it is way more beneficial in mechanical grip cars, because it keeps the attitude of the car more tame than when in full brake, full throttle.
@captainbarbossa52013 жыл бұрын
@@sombraarthur Well it depends on the corners but you are right. I tried driving a lot smoother 2 days ago, and in Silverstone (using a F1 1991 mod) I lowered my previous lap-time of 1:37-35 to just 1:34s every single lap. I think I'll still have trouble with GT cars - but thanks for your help!
