Wish more mainstream Sims would adopt it's physics. The way it models weight transfer even including chassis flex is amazing and something which is missing in other Sims. Would rather have a sim with unlicensed cars to allow for beamng's damage model rather than having a fully licensed sim without a proper damage model. Modern Sims tend to lose the peril of racing cars and completely discard the hazards of debris on track. Gone are the days on GP4 where someone's stray wheel blows my read wing off on impact
@namesii18803 жыл бұрын
@@AnimalMother98 The problem with the "simpler" stuff like debris is that it is extremely difficult to relay its position accurately to other clients in online racing. And if you can't do it accurately then it shouldn't be a thing, imagine getting a puncture on a "phantom" object for example. BeamNG's model is impressive, but it won't be a realistic option for sims any time soon. Like Beam itself has been in development for like 8 years at this point, and it still isn't on the level of your household sim racing titles.

The only problem I have with suspension setup in general is that for most cars, the default setup are decent to the point that I can't really see a problem with the car other than my own driving skills. They say drive consistently before setting up, but I don't have a clear goal, especially at what point in my training should I think about setups, and it's making me hesitant to start tweaking it. Anyone can help me with this?
@RWoody19953 жыл бұрын
Maybe a useful technicality to point out, while weight transfer is different between stiff/soft suspension, the amount of weight transferred is always the same with any setup changes on the same car. A stiff suspension just lets the weight transfer more quickly and therefore means that the weight transfer is more directly affected by your steering and throttle/brake inputs and makes the car more predictable and of course able to swap to the opposite direction sooner. Neils Heusinkveld recently went over this with proof on his KZbin channel if anyone's interested in hearing it from someone who's infinitely more knowledgeable than I am ^_^

Suspension stiffness does NOT change weight transfer! Only in the most extreme cases like a 2CV might it matter a couple percent. Weight transfer is a function of the CG height of the car (you're correct here), the wheelbase and the track width. If the wheelbase is 3 meter and the track width 1.5m, you get half the weight transfer per 'G force' when braking and accelerating, compared to when cornering. You sometimes can't "see" weight transfer. You can create suspension that raises the nose when braking, but the weight transfer will still be going to the front as much as with a soft normal suspension where the nose dives. Since the car dimensions are fixed, weight transfer is a function of the G force you're doing. So if you have a stiff or soft setup, every time you take a corner at 1G, the weight transfer will be the same regardless of the setup.
@viperconcept3 жыл бұрын
Suspension stiffness doesn't change the weight transfer, but it changes the effects of the weight transfer on cars. See what I mean? That's what I want to show in the video.

Lift-off oversteer is not a technique but a property of a car. It happens when you lift of the gas. The small weight transfer to the front causes the car to oversteer. This mostly affects MR or RR cars.

I may sound stupid for asking but Ima really curious... How would ARB apply to drag racing? Is the front soft or stiff? I would know the rear ia soft because it helps settle the weight transfer sent to the rear but what about the front? Unless... They both should be stiff?
@viperconcept3 жыл бұрын
ARB, as the name says, it's just for the lateral roll of the car. As far as I know it isn't that important in drag racing. You should watch at the suspensions and dampers instead, especially the rear ones.

@amysilverstone90593 жыл бұрын
@@droppingdime619 there is traction and stability control available for this car, but... they make it slow enough to be not viable, because if it wheelspins in almost straight line, then it accelerates on par with opponents, and when it grips, it starts going REALLY fast. Assists make this car boring, and also they cost 50k each, it is quite expensive for upgrade this small. I was doing the endurance race (in endurance, you also have to manage tyres wear and visit pit stop) with this car, the 2 hour Rome full course. I made such settings, so even with wheelspinning my front tyres were wearing faster than rear. With enough wear, spinning out was possible even with accurate acceleration control, but completely safe, because I was much faster than opponents and they couldn't catch up.
@droppingdime6193 жыл бұрын
@@amysilverstone9059 It is probably not fixable unless you can do an AWD conversion. Otherwise, the only thing that can be done is to press down the throttle gradually and shift up earlier in the first few gears.

Front heavy cars understeering, rear heavy car oversteering and 50/50 distribution being ideal isn't really true. Many mid engine cars "naturally" understeers due to (even relative to the weight on the front axle) small front tires and suspension setup, same with 50/50 cars.

I believe you, but for me it's not clear why a car with more weight to the rear would be more "oversteery" and vice-versa a car with more weight to the front would be more "understeery": Shouldn't a car with more weight to the front have more grip to the front wheels (who are the steered wheels) and so be more "oversteery"? What am I missing here? I know that I'm missing something, please can anyone explain me what?
@droppingdime6193 жыл бұрын
This logic is only true when driving fast because tires have limited grip when cornering. A rear weight biased car will oversteer because once you get the car turning, the rear has more inertia and wants to turn more than the front, causing oversteer. A car with a front weight bias is the opposite, and the rear is unlikely to turn more than the front, causing understeer. When driving slowly, there should be no oversteer or understeer.

I dont like term slow in, fast out. Most of the drivers understand it wrong and they are overslowing cars on entry. You need to be always on the grip limit, and carry as much as possible speed in every single centimeter of the track. Entry should be just ideal to not affect racing line and dont go wide on the apex. So yeah, it is better to go too slow than too fast, but going too slow is not the way to be as fast as possible
