On September 17th, 1974, back home in 1974 in Brooklyn, N.Y. I had turned 14. One of my brothers, a musician found that I had taken his old acoustic guitar to accompany me as I played all the songs of Emmylou Harris that to this day I still absolutely treasure. Tony came over to me as I was singing in my room in the attic, and very graciously as he handed me a birthday present, my very own, new acoustic guitar said "You sound just like Emmylou, so now I want you to learn to *play* like her." I eventually went on to learn to play quite a few of her songs, but never went public, choosing only to sing to myself to relax or when I was doing chores and to my children from infancy throughout childhood, lulling them to sleep or easing our long trips ("..to visit grandma!") on Metro North and the subway from Upstate NY back to my mother's in Brooklyn. She, along with those of her time, Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins and others, helped ease me from being painfully shy to having enough courage to believe in myself enough so to even bravely attempt to publicly sing to my children in a restaurant tavern Upstate, just to see what it was like...a truly wonderful experience which I hope never to forget as I grow into my older years.

She's the best. I love the fact that she can take songs from different genres and do them in her style. She won't let Nashville or anyone else dictate to her what songs she does.

I had the great experience of seeing Emmy on tour with this album at the westbury music fair where the stage revolved around in a circle. Early 80s. We all know that EMMYLOU. Was great then. But 45and50 years later she has put herself in category that is hers alone. A truly amazing woman and artist!!!

Aaaaaugh. Was a mere 40 minutes from that venue. Was just not savvy about all the phenomenal music I was marinating in!

She is such a treasure. I saw her open for Elton at Dodger Stadium in 1975...total disaster. The stadium pop crowd gave her a hard time, not cool but the genius that paired them needed a spanking.

How do you improve on Bruce Springsteen? You sing like emmylou harris, that’s how. Brunch makes you want to cry. Emmylou makes you want to curl up in a fetal position and never come out. What a heartbreaker
