Schumacher was underappreciated here in the states. I'm one of his biggest fans I hope he recovers from the tragic accident he had while skiing. He is without a doubt one of the greatest drivers to ever race. I miss getting up at 2 in the morning do watch the races over in Europe.

There's no doubt that Michael is far and away THE greatest driver the history of Formula One. He didn't merely change how drivers approached the sport, but also how the Teams and the FIA managed it.

Underappreciated? How is this possible? He was the only Driver who had won 43 GPs in a car that was not the best....and 3 titles in a car that was not the best...and fought for 3 more untill the last race...he is the only Driver who ever was able to win race after race and 3 titles without the best car, as the Williamses from 92-97 were the best cars and 98-2000 it were the McLarens. Only from 2001 to 2004 he had the best car....there is no other Driver who was ever able to achieve anything like that! How can a Driver who was in an inferior car for most of his career but even though achieved to be the most sucessfull ever can be underappreciated? And who did such spectacular races like Belgium 1994 or 1995, Nurburgring 1995, Hungary 1998, Argentina 1998, Imola 1999, Monaco 1997, Malaysia 2004, Barcelona 1996 and Spa 1997 etc. etc....just watching him driving makes it obvious to the naked eye that this guy had an ability of car control and speed that were superior to anyone else! Only Senna was close to him, but Senna lacked the total perfection to every detail and physical fitness and technical intelligence and commitement Schumacher. Senna was great in these aspects, too, but Schumacher just put every of these aspects a huge step further! He was the perfect driver just being totally into every single aspect of the World of F1. Maybe in the US there is just too little knowledge about his work and his career, because of the lack of reports about F1 in general.

schumacher had more race pace than senna.he was faster during the race.being faster in one lap gives you grid position.race gives you points for championship. also setting up a car for one lap with no fuel load is completely different than setting up a car for a full race with full load of fuel.there is a reason that senna had more poles than wins while schumacher had more wins than poles.schumacher aim was to win races and his setup was been set according to that logic.

My take on Schumi was that he was vastly overrated. Why do I say this? For a number of reasons. I appreciated and would take Jacques Villenueve's solitary world championship success over any of Schumi's 7 because in 1997 when there were only 17 races, Villenueve did not finish in 3, leaving only 14 to negotiate. Unbelievably, he still managed to win 7 to Schumi's 5, plus unlike Schumi, Villenueve did not have a teammate who conveniently slowed down and stepped aside to allow him to win, which Irvine, Massa and Barrichello always did for Schumi. People always seem to forget this. Jacques Villenueve demonstrated how to win a championship based on talent and raw, natural speed. Imagine the howls of protestation from Schumi if Villenueve or Montoya wanted to sign for Ferrari? He wouldn't like the competition because he knew that he wouldn't win so very easily. Furthermore, he couldn't handle pressure. When applied by Damon Hill and Villenueve, what did Schumi attempt to do? Ram them of the track! It's easy to look good when you have the best car, subservient team-mates and winning, but could never take it when the fight was taken to him. People praise Schumi to high heaven but forget that is was overwhelmingly due to the geniuses Jean Todt and Ross Brawn who controlled his races. When Schumi came out of retirement to drive for Mercedes, he looked like a fish out of water. His performances were dreadful. He drove like a novice who could not win a single race like before. I wonder why? Was it because he did not have Nico Rosberg step aside for him? Was it because he did not have a Ferrari engine in a Mercedes? Was it because he was unfamiliar with the race circuits? Nope! It was due to him not having any bottle pure and simple!!! The team was not built for him and knew he could not win, so he left. Unlike Irvine, Massa and Barrichello, Schumi was given an "equal" opportunity to compete and couldn't manage it as the Mercedes was more than half decent, and yet ran like a coward when the going got tough.

@@deathmagneto-soy - As your opinion differs from mine, please go ahead by setting the record straight then. Based on what I previously wrote, you still cannot disprove any of it because that’s the way the 1997 season transpired as well as Schumacher’s fortunes in other scenarios. That’s the way things transpired at Mercedes when he couldn’t win. He left. That’s the way things transpired with having subservient teammates who had to let him through to win. That’s the way things transpired when the pressure got too much when he attempted to take both Hill and Villeneuve off the track. What part of all that is false or ignorance? I would be glad to hear your take on this.
