This was an epic race with wild sailing conditions for my little sailboat. Meraki did well but the wind dropped towards the end which hurt our time a bit. Overall a great day out on the water for the round the island race 2022.

In the Netherlands I would get a Valk - it’s like a big dinghy with a keel and large flat open cockpit. You can get a tent to go over the boom for sleeping but the party trick is the hinged mast which allows you to get under low bridges. You can rent a PolyValk to explore the many lakes and canals. Perhaps that’s next for Alex - small boat charter/cruising around the world?

Nice to watch! Used to do a lot of sailing with Vivacity 20 in the Bothian bay in Finland/Sweden back in the day. We had Vivacity as a go in between boat while building our bigger boat. Great little machine and more seaworthy than one would think

Alex, the NOR for the race states: “6.12 Except on trimarans, outboard engines shall not be tilted up so that the propeller is protruding beyond the transom.” But there’s nothing to say you can’t remove the outboard completely once you’re sailing and stow it below so the weight is lower and closer to the middle of the boat.
@AlexGoesSailing

That’s true but in the rough conditions with a lee shore and not having much room bellow I decided it wasn’t going to be worth any savings I’d get and I’d rather have it ready to go when needed. If it was lighter conditions then I would have moved it I think as I would have had a bigger effect in the light stuff.

Love your videos, I spent every weekend on a similar boat in the early eighties as a child with my family (vivacity 24) and we did a lot of the things you do beaching and anchoring all over the Solent so it really brings back childhood memories seeing the fun you are having.

I and am an absolute newbie so have thoroughly enjoyed watching your videos and picking up a few little tips and tricks. I can’t wait to get her on the water to put my theoretical skills into practice. Thanks for the help from Adelaide, South Australia

I really enjoyed this video and your sailing ability puts me to shame, i have a Hurley 22R and only take her out in gentle breezes. Your videos go to show that you don't need a big boat to have fun, and stay safe, its the skill and ability of the crew that matters.

Wild ride!! I noticed your prop was dragging in the water a bit. Is your motor able to tilt up? That could gain you a bit more speed.
