Don't forget, the thermal cameras looking at the tires are only showing 'surface' temperature of the tire. The tire's carcass temperature is what really matters, which you need a probe-type pyrometer to test for (cost about $200-300). That is why the tire temp appears to cool right after braking: it is only the surface temp that has cooled, not the actual carcass. Additional note: you need to be running tire warmers with those P-Zero slicks. The wheel (rim) is robbing heat from the tire carcass until the rim gets hot, resulting in longer times for the carcass to warm up to operating temp. Keep rocking on, love the channel.

I believe S1 sequential makes a sequential shifter kit for the CD009 transmission and I think it would greatly benefit you since you can simplify your electronics and pneumatics a lot! All you'd need is 2 strain gauges on the shifter to tell when you're upshifting and downshifting and you can configure the clutch and rev matching for downshifting! I'm no expert but I hope that helps!

When is he finally going to throw out that pneumatic system? I think it is never going to work sufficiently, and it does not make sense at all to me. 1) throw a different compressor in there, 120V AC with a hugeass inverter is ridiculous on a racecar. Use a belt driven one (from the engine) or at least find a 12V one. You don't need massive amounds of pressure or flow, maybe you can use one from a air-suspension system. 2) If you want to shift pneumatically, don't actuate the shiftknob, actuate the levers directly on the transmission, that would make much more sense.
@kasuraga3 жыл бұрын

No point of making it work while the gearbox is still stock gear with synchro that require clutch on every gear shift... What he really needs is proper sequential dog-box from hgt or similar manufacturer so shifting is much faster without the need of clutch be it in manual sequential lever shift mode or paddle shift mode... *Its because even if he able to make the actuator to shift fast, there is still delay he need to account for like: 1-clutch in and out time 2-synchro engagement time If he needs to cheap out on non sequential transmission... Atleast get a built internal gears with dog engagement type.. Or straight to full sequential like from hgt which is not that pricey... Then he can juat use mechanical lever to shift sequentially.. or full auto paddle shift using servo motor to operate the sequential shifter drum

I'm glad to see you and the car on the track, but there's a lot of wise advice coming from some followers in here. As a Pro-Driver for BMW I can tell you that the biggest gains right now are in your driving technique (I can elaborate via PM). As a season setup driver, your second biggest gains is the on throttle push mid corner, the car goes into a push too easy, needs more mechanical grip on the front axle.

This project is freaking awesome. I'm wondering if you could go over how you set the car up and if/what changes you make throughout a race weekend. Designing the car is cool, but with so many adjustments and variables interconnected I'm interested how you approach it. If you're struggling so much with low tire temps there are definitely things you can change to get them higher (more compression, toe, etc.) I'd be really interested to see how you weigh those tradeoffs

It's like a modernized version of Max Balchowsky's Old Yaller - a homebuilt road-racing "special" with rough-looking bodywork and an unlikely engine. You use a Mercedes/AMG lump because that's an engine you're an expert upon; Max used a Buick "nailhead" because it was a good performer if you knew some tricks, and was dead-reliable. He also really played up a hayseed image: He'd drive Old Yaller to the track, change the tires, race it, change them back, and drive home, and his pit crew was his wife, Ina. But he had a bit more going on than it might initially have seemed - with training in mechanical engineering, he knew how to make a car handle.

Put radial tires on the trailer and you won't have to worry about blowouts as much. Those flimsy bias ply tires suck. What kind of rack is in the car? What ratio is it? The smoke from the driver side bank, is that from the PCV or catch can?
@DukeOfCurling3 жыл бұрын
For me wasn't the tire temperature the problem. In order to achieve probably 2 full secs I would have probably augmented the camber at the front and lower the pressure by 0.2 bar and adjusted also the brake bias maybe a little more in the rear like 60-50 seeing by the lockups you made. Awesome car btw

Seems like the gear ratio is long, torque is immense on this engine and it must be hard to not to spin the rear. Lot of time to gain on the braking zones. Lot of potential, the setup seem better for a bigger track and maybe too much down force on the rear. Well done, amazing project.

Great to see the car on the track! You probably should be a bit busier on the gear shift though, with the pneumatic system or not. I was in a friends 125cc shifter kart a while back on a short sprint track. 28 gear changes for a 34 second lap, so I think you only had 2 per lap there. Also just wondering how race control lets you compete without gloves?! Especially in an open cockpit. Even racing my Suzuki RM 250 grass kart, we had to have a full race suit, helmet, gloves and neck brace before we even got on the track! Very keen to see the new project come together too! ;)
