Im not sure if its publicly accessible but in ottawa, there is a wind tunnel at the NRC near the airport if i remember correctly. Its been a while since i lived there so it may not be anymore but its huge

You can do fluid simulation digitally with CFD that can get you pretty close to a wind tunnel. The only advantage wind tunnels have is that they can simulate things like turbulence a lot more accurately

There was sugestion to put 8HP gearbox with Lamik controller, seems like there was no interest 🤷♂️ HP8 has proven it's robustnees and gear changing speed. This gearbox with this controler FTW!
@rolen23582 жыл бұрын
Wouldn’t be better to switch to ZF 8HP gearbox? It is dual clutch, so you can still have paddle shifters, plus you are getting rid off that complex shifting mechanism
@georgobergfell2 жыл бұрын
8 HP is a tourque converter automatic 😉
@Thee_Snow_Wolf2 жыл бұрын
@@georgobergfell He has a turbo V8. Isn't not lacking in torque, so power absorption isn't an issue. Just getting a 8HP will be easier, simpler and faster to shift than this mess he has inherited.
@georgobergfell2 жыл бұрын
@@Thee_Snow_Wolf I fully agree. I also agreed with the OP, I was only correcting his statement that the 8HP is a DC transmission, wich it is not. ZF also produces Double Clutch transmissions, they are also known as Porsche PDK and come in 7 or 8 speed versions (8 speed is the latest). The main issue of installing a modern automatic or a DC transmission into this car is the lack of standalone TCUs. He would basically have to build one himself wich is by no means easy. Other than that I think an 8HP is a pretty good transmission choice for any type of sports car. They are relatively light weight, shift fast and can handle (in the right version) a crap ton of power.
@Thee_Snow_Wolf2 жыл бұрын
@@georgobergfell Ah, fair comment on the torque converter. On the issue of controlling DCTs / ZF 8HPs, there are actually multiple options now for the control of both. GNG Motorsport do a Getrag 7 speed DCT controller and HTG Tuning do a 8HP controller. I think MaxxECU can even control some of the earlier 7 speeds.

Quite honestly, I really believe the car would be significantly faster, vastly more reliable, and a ton less work to get ready to run if you just bought a ZF 8HP90. I understand the desire to do your own thing, but sometimes it ends up being better to lean on good commercially available options. The manual swap on the E55 makes more sense than this system to me. Interesting idea, but a huge can of worms.
@joat91052 жыл бұрын
How about Corvette transaxle? I think it'll be a lot better for the weight distribution
@alanfish33172 жыл бұрын
@@joat9105 I think he already designed the car for near perfect weight distribution with the transmission in it's current location. The engine is well behind the front axle. There would also likely have to be some major revisions to the overall chassis design to accommodate a change like that, enough so that it would almost make more sense to design and build a new chassis altogether. I thought of the 8HP90 because it is actually used in later revisions of the W211 Chassis design that made it's way Dodge vehicles, so it should fit in the same spot without issues. It is robust enough that it serves as the transmission in the Hellcat and would likely be able to handle the power. They are also remarkably fast shifting, smooth, and quite easy to tune to your liking with off-the-shelf transmission controllers. I just feel like he could focus a lot more of his time on more beneficial aspects like the aero and suspension setups if he wasn't stuck spending countless hours trying to make this crazy contraption work. Maybe go back to that sort of thing once the rest of the car is sorted. But to each their own of course.

To solve the shifter problem make a pneumatic switch block that tracks the gear position and vents the piston pressure into a chamber with a pressure transducer that shuts off the pressure pushing the piston. With the right pressure and delay timing this will work mostly mechanically with little electronics and programming required.
