I've got a Cupra 290 DSG and absolutely love it, had it from new. The handling, performance and just the general look of the car is my most favorite parts of it. Ive fitted a tuning box so power output is around 360bhp on the most aggressive setting) (don't need to tell me it's not a proper remap, I already know!) Didn't get it remapped due to the warranty. Its had 2 services so far and its not been detected - obviously removed before service! My friend has a BMW 330D Auto which on paper is the pretty much the same 0-60 / torque figures as the Cupra so we decided to try a roll race. With the box off, we stayed pretty much level over 1/4 mile. With the box on, the cupra properly gapped the 330d. I would love to tune the cupra one day, but for now it does the job.

@@danharrald5184 beleive it or not he actually had both lol but if I remember rightly aren't the pretty much the same engine? First one was a 2009 E90 which he owned for about 2 years before someone pulled out on him and wrote it off - this is the one we did the rolling start with. Second one was a 2015 F30, only owned it for a couple of weeks and found out it had been badly repaired after an accident and took it back to the garage where he bought it from. Shame really it was a nice car otherwise. We did one pull with this one but my cupra went into limp mode so didn't do anymore - I was actually following him up to the garage to return it so thought sod it, we'll have a couple of pulls on the A38 😂 Turned out I had a broken wire on the tuning box which I've now soldered and been fine since...

@@Phrozen2 sorry only just noticed your reply pal! That's an interesting story, the e90 has a slush box so I would expect the cupra to beat it. The f30 has the Zf 8 speed box, so it would be a close call I think?!

@@danharrald5184 no problem at all, I don't really know a lot about BMW in all honesty! I totally underestimated both the E90 and F30, they're quick! Both cars were pretty even, I had only had my cupra for a month or so when when we tried with the E90 and it was pretty even - no box Then on the F30, I struggled to keep up until about 70/80 then I started to pull it back. Once I turned the tuning box back on, he couldn't keep up and I went into limp mode! These tuning boxes are underrated and a lot of people say they're not really safe but I've had zero issues with mine (except the broken wire, my fault where I cable tied it) Fitting one was the only way I could preserve my warranty due to the TD1 ECU Flag on VAG cars.

I’ve got a brand new 290 m8 and it’s a weapon as stock, it’s only off the line it’s at a disadvantage obviously being fwd, after that I’ve repeatedly gapped my brothers 7.5R. Yours is high milage but with some fettling and some mods will be a beast and can’t wait to see what’s in store for it, vrs will do a conversion to make the drivetrain the same as an r or s3. @@kjph7438 clutch is decent, has a very OEM pedal feel, just finished running it in and it handles the torque no issues, original clutch was slipping massively in 4th and 5th after tune. Car was tuned by JFA in Maidstone.

If you're doing the clutch...highly recommend RTS twin friction kit for this. Have it in my 290..it's solid as a rock..pedal feel is near on stock. Will handle stage 2+

You can only fully turn the esc off the tc is still on, i read some were theres a fuse that you can take out but im unsure, good viid3o man enjoy watching them

Just watching the Cupra change gear you could see its momentum stop momentarily against the RS3 so I think even a stock DSG 280 racing alongside would have had the manual Cupra by a car length or two. Not a fan of autos but can’t deny they are faster.

As shown by the leaderboards more power in a FWD often means a slower 0-60. Traction is king in these tests. Id be interested to see a stage 1 manual cupra vs a stock dsg one to see the difference

Biggest let down on the MK7 Platform cars is that clutch! They also have a shitty clutch delay valve as well which makes the gear change way slower. When you do a fast gear change the pedal doesn’t come back anywhere near as quick as it should. Get that removed OG! 👍🏽

The problem with FWD is that when you pull off the weight shifts to the back and lifts the front wheels increasing spin. Is there something that can be done to increase traction off the line without compromising the ride quality?
