I just wanted to say thank you for giving this such a quality review. Feels like some people get these sets and don't take it very seriously. They don't understand how important their review is when it comes to these sets. There is a limited time frame and they are expensive. Then only a couple people get a copy of each set to review so when some people decide to make the review about themselves or use the set as a backdrop to have another discussion it's kind of insulting. Brickset did a great review on this one but I was really hoping for a video and I'm glad you're the one that got this set.

It's rather amusing they decided to add an extra 500pcs to the set rather than have a single length of track left unused in the box.

@Freedomcustom2 күн бұрын
I would imagine curves wouldn't be a problem, i have and modified the express train set and that too doesn't suffer from curves and this set uses a shorter build per section
@stubusby78185 күн бұрын
Hi RacingBrick! Great review! Can all the wheel base assemblies swivel underneath the cars? I ask because this train-building style usually allows the train to negotiate curves without significant friction and slow-down effect. Also, are the wheel axles metal? or the newer plastic nubs? During motorization, how easily do you think a front headlight could be installed on the locomotive? Is it hollow enough to tunnel through? Thanks!

As someone who is an avid train builder I do have to say that the *locomotive* really isn't it's strongest point. The rest of the set is great and I'm sure wild west builders/collectors will love it. However for me a train set is only as good as the engine pulling it, but the overdone griebling, bulkness in weird parts (like the 2 wide plate ontop of the boiler/running board), and the odd piston rod connections are design choices that definitely could have been executed much much better. Otherwise a great set though, kind of like the orient express. I think that the wild west steam locomotive from FunWhole captures the look of a wild west steam locomotive much more accurate and would look great infront of it. The old Lone Ranger train set probably would work very well too if you just add some rods.
@stubusby78185 күн бұрын
Agree. I'd especially like to see a rework of the piston-rod connections. As a casual train fan, that one change would be a big bump for me!
@stijnd52685 күн бұрын

It's nice, but Lego has to step up its game with the current competition. The Funwhole Western Train - similar in features and size - has complete built-in mobile lighting, great Gobricks parts in nice colors and features only prints with a couple of prints over several parts. And all of that for about 100 bucks.

The original used the proper train doors in dark red, not some built doors that do not look great. I really wanted the train doors in dark red, They would have been ideal on my Hogwarts Express I am building in its traditional dark red instead of red. Well thats my plan down the drain, the doors looked great, why change them for poor looking built doors, oh, obviously you wanted to increase that piece count so you could increase the price by $80. Could not have the same number of pieces as the Logging Train and just charge $200 when you can pointlessly up the piece count and charge $280.
@scrope5 күн бұрын
The train is pretty nice but I'm not sure the extra $50+ in minifigs is really worth it. If they want to have that many figs, have them create a separate accessory pack you can buy.
@joevictor535 күн бұрын
I wish Lego would do this as a thing. There are sets like the Icons Land Rover that have accessories that not all of us want. Why not sell that as an accessory pack and give us the option of buying the set for less?
@RacingBrick5 күн бұрын
Logistics mostly. An accessory pack is a separate set, with all the bells and whistles that it requires. Some people want more minifigures, some people want less, there's never a solution that fits for all.

Lego sells the sets for retail price. However, you'll wait entire shelf life of the set (1-2 years sometimes more), then yes, you'll buy it for inflated aftermarket price. And regards this one - there are many large sets that we can't buy due to to high price point. Would I really want to buy this one - I'll simply sacrifice several smaller sets and will not get them.
