I played this game back when I was 5 in 1998. My brother bought the game and my dad played it too. This game is what made me have such an interest in cars. To this day I still want a Mazda Miata from the 90s because of the game.

Man..! My Childhood! haha.. I can remember my dad tried it, didn't like it at first because he said the controller and buttons were to complicated, he didn't like the menu.. blah blah blah. "All these new game systems are ridiculous.. and over complicated these days!!" ..ect.. One day I came home from school. He took the day off work and played it all day. He accumulated a bunch of the supercars.. and from that point on he played the game more than I did. Hahah! I was a kid at the time.. so actually playing the game in Gran Turismo mode didn't interest me.. I only wanted to play Quick-Race and drive the Corvettes and what not lol. He did the same thing with ps2, ps3, and ps4.. first said all the new games were too complicated and stupid.. next thing we knew he was gaming them every night. hahaha He said Grand Theft Auto was too violent.. and sick that they would make a game like that.. within a week he was shooting at cops, blowing up cars and running over pedestrians laughing his ass off while playing it. LOL

That’s literally the same thing that happened with my dad when he got his hands on my PS2 and GT3. He basically played it until late hours for weeks, finishing majority of the GT mode and completing all the licenses. Funny thing is that I now race real cars at a high level and an ace at racing sims, so I recently went back to GT3 to try and better his license records.... I literally spent 2hrs trying to beat only three of them until I just gave up. He had some serious PlayStation skills back in the day!!!

This makes me miss my Dad. He and I spent hours playing this and GT2 together. He is still alive but falling apart. I didn't realise how great a time it was until I heard that intro music again. Miss you, Dadster.

The first Gran Turismo was the greatest of them all because all of the cars that are worth a fuck to drive, the older 90s manual cars, were NEW cars when this game was made. The idea was fresh and that is when the best of games get made.

so for me in the future i not going to play Gran turismo 1 and 2 ever again becuase i can tell the racing games are kind'a harder sure is all about memories that you and alot of People will have if you look back 20 years for this franchise but all i have to say is that for me Gran Turismo is not my favorite like Ridge racer um let me guess i don't know like Rayman Rush Ridge Racer Revolution and Lastly Ridge Racer Type 4 the game with 320 cars you have to unlock it all like Gran turismo so that's my bottom line right there so if you wanna reply me back of what you agree with me okay thanks!!!!!

The very first Gran Turismo! I still remember when it first came out. It set the standard of racing games since. I still have the disc to this day, and I have beaten 100% (seriously). The music and intro of this game is so epic. I MISS the '90s. Surprised this is the PAL version.

I remember reading about this in gamepro. I reserved it at the mall... and when i got the call, i went to go pick it up, but had to go straight to work afterwards hahaa! I didn't get off until around 1030p, but i went home and put it in. Holy crap, the reviews didn't do it justice. I was so hooked! The MR2 was my fav. So much so that i actually bought one in 2000, when i was 21.

My favourite racing ever. I got such a rush when I saw the intro. I vividly remember getting a playstation as a kid and playing Gran Turismo. I have such fond memories of it with friends and family. Man, strange how games can impact you emotionally.

I'll never forget when I got this game. It opened up so many new things for me. For one I really got into the Nissan Skyline cars, the Silvia cars, and other JDM cars. But what completely blew my mind was the level of detail this game has. Thousands and thousands of REAL CARS! I collect Hot Wheels and Matchbox Die-Cast cars as well as Auto World, Johnny Lightning, etc. This game was the reason I got back into it. But again the game.....the amount of time you spent on it. The necessary things needed to advance. Getting specific drivers licenses, permits, as well as engines, brakes, transmissions, and so many other necessities needed to get to higher race classes. Front Wheel Drive, Rear wheel drive, All wheel drive, and again so many other possibilities, extras, and again necessities. The replayability on this game is UNMATCHED! Every brand of car makers, Chrysler, Dodge, Chevy, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Honda, Subaru, Ford, etc. Every manufacturer was utilized, as well as so many other models. You were able to race everything and anything from a Dodge Viper to a Nissan Skyline, to a Soccer Mom's car. Every car had classes so every race was feasibly possible to win. This truly was the deepest, most immersive game, racing or otherwise ever made and I loved it! I can remember playing so long my hands ached. Gran Turismo opened up the gaming world to a car lovers smorgasbord! This still has to rank as a Top 1,2, or 3 game for this system.

This game was so on point, today I play it on an emulator, first time playing since early 2000s and I think they missed a trick ditching the music in later games. Also the car selection was nearly perfect save variations eg evo 1&2, vr4, RS Legacy, gtx & gtr familia, ep81 gt starlet, st185 gt4, fxgt corolla to name a few. Gt2 had that nailed minus the RS Legacy which was a ridiculous omission. The later games screwed it up not having the full range of those daily driven hero cars of the era. The Pulsar Gtir never being seen again for example was a travesty.

I must’ve been 6 or 7, i can NOT remember, but i remember we were in a far off shack in Puerto Rico and i was watching someone play this and was amazed, i watched for hours lol. I also remember the drive there was scary bc my parents told me that snakes were all around the place and we went to this house in the middle of the night where my family was and it was just..open.
