I remember Tingle Creek, Grand Canyon et al. Sprinter is the best I have seen over 2 miles without doubt.

During 2012 & 2013 I believe Sprinter Sacre was the best chaser since Arkle and his 'comeback' win in the 2016 Champion Chase will always remain my favourite race.
@keithf_2 жыл бұрын
Yeah that 2016 Champion Chase I found pretty emotional. I definitely had something in my eye that day
@keithknight16862 жыл бұрын
@markholt7952 On one day Master Minded was awesome, though in retrospect he didn't beat any great quality that day.In Moscow Flyer you have a point, though in 2013 Sprinter Sacre was winning in the manner of an Arkle, on the bridle, never out of second gear. I remain firm, in 2013 Sprinter was the best chaser since Arkle. Now, of course, Kauto Star might have to be second to Arkle, and on his day Denman might be third. But your point of view is just as valid as mine or anyone else.
@keithknight16862 жыл бұрын
@markholt7952 Your right and I'm right. That's what opinion is about. When Denman won his first Hennesey the thought cane into my head that I had witness the new Arkle. fate went against him. It's all about feel and instinct isn't it? If you go back to Sprinter's first 2-mile Champion Chase and remember how could Sizing Europe was and the absolute ease in which Sprinter put him away, can you honestly any other 2-mile chaser could have achieved the same? On that day Sprinter was on a par with Arkle, though, of course, it is conjecture whether Sprinter could have given 2-stone or more and a beating to the second-best chaser of the time. Also, go through the field for the 2016 Champion Chase and take into account the quality in that race, past 2-Mile Champions Chase winners and a future winner, a Ryanair winner, good and consistent chasers. Sprinter did not win as easily as 2013 but the overall depth of the race was superior. It's just my opinion that in his pomp Sprinter was the best 2-mile chaser I've witnessed and perhaps the second-best chaser of all-time. And in venturing that opinion I am in no way disrespecting Moscow Flyer, as game and consistent a horse as ever graced the racecourse. My Good Wishes and have a good Cheltenham.
@keithf_2 жыл бұрын
@keithknight1686 I agree with almost everything you say. Yes indeed Sprinter was the best 2 mile chaser ive seen. However, there is an Arkle contemporary - from the same yard indeed - who many say was as good as Arkle. And whilst I do have some vague recollections of watching Arkle back in the 1960s, I have no recollection of ever watching his stablemate run. The horse I'm referring to was the brilliant 2 mile chaser Flyingbolt. I don't think Arkle and Flying bolt ever met on the racecourse ... for obvious reasons. Yes Sprinter Sacre is the best 2 milechaser I've seen. The best there's ever been? Maybe a toss up between Sprinter and Flyingbolt
@keithknight16862 жыл бұрын
@@keithf_ The thing with Flyingbolt is this. And Pat Taaffe rated him only third of the best horses he ever rode, with Mill House rated second. He wasn't a 2-mile chaser. He was a remarkable horse in that he could win 2-mile chases and at the same time win an irish National carrying top-weight putting up a performance some, including Ted Walsh, believed to be better than anything Arkle achieved in the race. But, as with Denman, he was unlucky in that he lived in an era, and in the stable, as one whose overall record was superior, and illness truncated his career just as Arkle was about to leave the scene. Flyingbolt could have been the greatest racehorse of all-time. Better than Arkle, even. But he was never given the chance to show us. Thankfully Sprinter Sacre got a second chance to prove his status as the best 2-mile chaser of all-time and for a brief 18-months, in his pomp, I believe only Arkle was his better. But, as I always say, your opinion is just as valid as mine.

Sprinter is my favourite horse of all time bar none - I had the pleasure of visiting him at Vicky Robert’s stables recently and he still looks magnificent. So difficult to rate a horse that travelled like him in that 2012/2013 season. It’s absolutely amazing to me that Timeform rated his 2016 Champion Chase win 2 stone (!) inferior to to his 2013 win. That really puts things in context. Sprinter had it all - sheer class and talent in 2013 and class and heart in 2016. To quantify things, Timeform are saying that if the 2013 Sprinter had run in the 2016 Champion Chase the winning margin would have been about 30 + lengths ( i.e actual winning margin plus 28!) Can anyone imagine that in a Grade 1 race!! He is a horse of a lifetime for me! Bless him.

Sprinter Sacre's the best chaser I've seen. The run he had from his chasing debut to this, to the Arkle, the Tingle Creek, the Victor Chandler, his first Champion to the Melling and Punchestown I've never seen anything like. All the opponents were basically cooked with 2 fences remaining and he was pretty much never off the bridle. Phenomenal horse

I've been watching racing since 1961 and the two greatest 2 mile chasers I have seen have been Flyingbolt and Sprinter Sacre. Flyingbolt won , what is now the QMCC, on the Tuesday of the Festival in 1966, and the very next day was a close third in the Champion Hurdle. He was a truly incredible 2 mile chaser and only injury prevented him from notching further successes in the QMCC. Sprinter Sacre is definitely the best I have seen since Flyingbolt.
