American culture can often be very regional, just like India has different states/regions. The southern states in the US often have a stereotype of being racist against people who are not Caucasian. However, this stereotype, as you have encountered first hand, is not always the case. I was born and raised in the US and I'm glad to see that you've been welcomed with open arms here! Generally speaking, American citizens really love it when someone immigrates here from another country, wants to work hard, treats others with kindness & respect, and make something of themselves. In the US, if you want to work hard & be smart/wise about it, then you can succeed. And we love to see people do that. Your family should be very proud of you. It takes a lot of courage to leave your home and go live on the other side of the world for 4 years.

Forget US.. Even south indians in some south states are sometimes racist with other indians, thats what i have heard...

To International students and visitors: Most Americans are not racist however, there are some (Trump for example) and the media gives them too much attention. The laws concerning racism in this country are strong. You cannot discriminate against anyone for their religious beliefs, their sex or their race. The law protects EVERYONE not just US citizens. That said, American humor can be easily misunderstood. If you are among friends, if you are accepted, it is not unusual to tease someone about their sex, religion or race. (You would not do it with a stranger but among friends it is common.) For example: after Trumps (bat shit crazy) accusations that all Mexicans are drug deals, thieves and rapists, I asked several of my Mexican friends if they wanted me to get them Trump for President bumper stickers. (If I thought I had offended someone or if they mentioned that it was 'over the line, I would have apologized.) In connection with the above, understand that Americans are notoriously ignorant about other countries. If you are from India, expect someone to ask you if you rode an elephant to wok or school.

Hello, I am from China, and I am studying at a big U in the U.S.. Before that, I had studied in a small-town high school for more than 3 yrs, and I had encountered stereotypes a few times and had been quite frustrated. I just want to say thank you for offering another perspective that not all generalizations are malicious. I like your videos (the few ones that I have watched so far) and good luck in the U.S.!

It's harder to see racism when you are just visiting/studying in another country. You just see the good side of things and don't understand the entire country or its history or culture. If you were Indian and were born/raised in the US and you witnessed all the crap that goes on in the US I doubt you would say there isn't racism. It's an incredibly racially tense country. Indians do okay cause they mostly are educated when they immigrate but you are kidding yourself if you think a significant amount of white Americans aren't racist and wouldn't insult you or worse if they could. Go to Trump rally or West Texas and see how you find it.

Trust me, Indians were the most racist of the lot... I'm an American with Indian ancestors, during my freshman year, I noticed that it was the folk from S. Asia who hurled racist comments... even disgusting ones and got away with it unscathed... Guys, USA is a beautiful country. Don't let a single person or a group taint its image.

I went to the US 6 month ago and stayed for around 2 month (My family was one of the invited families in the world meeting of families in Phili). I traveled 8 states and interact with many other US citizens and in fact they are actually happy when they see international people and they even ask enthusiastically about your country and I seen no racism from my stay and travel. in fact the ones I told that I want to study in the US were trying to give me some information about universities and financial aids. I have a very important question for you and hope that I get your answer as well. I been watching all your videos and working very hard on getting info from here and there so that I can be successful in getting my financial aid and higher education in the US but I think I messed up something which is that I should have already finished my application by now but I thought the process was similar with my country Ethiopia (somewhat the same with India's education system). So I will be finishing high school due by mid MAY and I will be taking my TOEFL and ACT beginning of April and I was hoping to have a strong application that I can submit for around August so that I can attend college but then now I get the idea that I have to wait till 2017 (almost a year without school) so that I can apply for Fall term. How bad is this and any advice for me. I been working very hard but I messed up on this so bad and my country is not safe at the moment in the universities (students die and lots of things happening and government even cut most of the websites) So I won't mind to wait one year studying something at home but does this affect my application or anything bad from this? should I be worried or just sacrifice my 1 year and keep on going with the process? Thanks man and sorry for the too many questions. I am just worried a lot. Thanks for all the work you put in here and have a great education. (I am thinking to study computer science as well and even double major with something related)

Well Michigan does not have Indians spread all over except for the out skirts of Detroit and all the major university campuses. I study at Michigan tech. people are nice here but sometimes i feel like i am not being included in the society. I am accepted but not included. I think that only happens when you are Asian and south Asian. All Africans and south Americans blend in better and get accepted quicker in spite of being International students.

Jon Banks 1 second ago have heard this "speech" a million times by fellow blacks and other minorities. It is like when women claim that every sexual assault victim is basically at fault for her own mistreatment, which is a way of "protecting" ones own vulnerability. After all, if it is the victims own fault then it cannot happen to me is how they dismiss the fact that it could well happen to them. When (not if) it happens to him he will deny it but feel bad inside that he is viewed as less than by others he thought he delighted. How do I know??? I was blindly naive once and thought racism was simply in peoples heads. However once I pulled my head out of it's proverbial "slot" I was painfully aware of how blind I had been. Dude, racism can be so sleek and subtle that you may not recognize it until after the humiliation good luck wake up maybe it hasn't happened yet, but try to rent an apt away from the school. Try going to some of those so called christian churches. You won't have to look for it. It will find you. Glad you have not seen blatant mistreatment but the subtle kind is the worst.

Is there is racism in Texas
@JewelRocks1237 жыл бұрын
White people have evolved,from being the most racist at one point in history, they are the least racist race today with majority white countries accepting non-white immigrants.I think it's in our head, we quickly pull the race card against whites because we think they are always bound to be arrogant and racist because of their white color. We think being light skinned is a superior trait which makes white people proud and racist, well it doesnt hold good anymore. This thought compels us to attach racist connotations to every white individual action.If a white cop pulls you over, he's racist, if its an asian cop, no. If a white girl rejects you, she's racist, if a black girl does it, its her preference. It's time we change our mindset and think rationally.

I am not a Muslim, but essentially here is what I can tell. there is a group of extremists Americans that get lots of media attention who will avoid you or not like you because your Muslim, however it is a very small group of people and it usually the ones that are like 60 to 70 years old and up. most people will welcome you but they will be ignorant as well. the ignorance may come.across as racism but their intentions are to learn not to offend.
