If you're foreigner in China and speak Mandarin, the Chinese will appreciate it for your effort to speak their language, but,if you're in the US and speak English, a lot of American are not comfortable with your accent although your English grammatically is perfect.

Omg! You are so right! I haven’t thought about that. They will mock and scoff at you for getting some things wrong as a non-native speaker of the language .

Perfectly summed up Sabrina. Especially the part about carrying that victim mentality. If you walk around constantly thinking people are out to get you because of your skin colour, it develops into this paranoia & resentment barrier stopping you from enjoying & experiencing life. China has come a long way & I can see as more people are exposed to international foreigners, there is less ignorance & more understanding about other cultures. Thank you for sharing your insight.

As a Chinese live in Oakland, California, me and my neighbors got physical attacks few times and even policemen don’t care . Not even mention my car got stolen/broken many times. In general, the western world particularly Americans are too self centered mentally. Like The whole world own them
Try being a minority in your own country never understate a personal experience
@aaronp2542 Жыл бұрын
To be fair in America and parts of the west, some of them really do have a problem with race so the victim mentality isn't coming out of nowhere. However to project it onto China is a separate issue, as China is not the west. America has a system that really hinges on race and not your work/worth, whereas it is the opposite in China. One is systemic and one not.
In fact, in the US / UK, if you are Asian & have an accent in English, you will often be discriminated against; but in China, as long as you can communicate in Chinese, even it is not good, they still be very appreciate it.
@AntonShim Жыл бұрын
There was a time in USA when people would look at East Asian and assume their accent is too strong to do a job even if they were born and raised in USA. I'm not sure if this still happens

In US is about representation not merit. Too much representation will divide people.
@Placidzzz Жыл бұрын
The USA is in descending slope and losing its greatness really fast.
@megamagamanga5968 Жыл бұрын
You got that right. Conflicts from divisive representation is the conditioned consequence of Western democracy. There is no escape from it. The Americans believe that checks and balances and compromises through reason will resolve these conflicts, but when reason fails to persuade against ignorance and preservation of self-interests prevails these conflicts soon will spiral out of control and destroy the democracy from within. This is why Socrates was pessimistic about democracy and instead believed a society based on meritocracy was better in the long run. I wish more Chinese people, especially the younger and more impressionable ones, would not blindly assume that Western democracy is superior than any other system. Democracy is not inherently superior. And furthermore, democracy is not prerequisite of technical or culture advancement of society. Advancement of any society is the direct result of good and competent governance by its leadership. A political system based on merit is the best way to ensure that. Singapore and China are two good examples of that system of meritocracy. Chinese people should have more confidence about their own political system and speak up more against the delusions and failings of Western democracy.

In traditional Chinese culture, people believe in the cycle of reincarnation. Although nowadays most people in the world believe that people only have one life, traditional beliefs still deeply influence us. For example, a dog may be someone you knew in a past life, such as a classmate or a friend. Moreover, Chinese people tend to easily accept the idea that we are all the same, even if we are from different races. If we have been in contact with each other, it is even easier to become familiar with each other. At present, Chinese society is undergoing a significant cultural transformation. I am confident that in the future, our society and culture will become more mature. Before this happens, although there are all kinds of people, the majority of Chinese people support friendly foreign friends. It is unnecessary to care about the minority of people who cannot understand this concept. Just ignore them, and if possible, respond to them with a white eye.

There is a saying in the ancient Chinese book "易经(I Ching)" that "仁者见仁,智者见智(The benevolent sees benevolence, the wise sees wisdom.;Different views are admissible. (idiom))." The meaning of this statement is that each person has his own opinion on the same issue and the same matter, and the benevolent person sees the benevolent side, while the wise person sees the wise side. I think it can also be extended to: in fact, everything has two sides and even many aspects, positive and sunny people always see the positive side of things, negative people always see the negative side, we can see from all Sabrina videos that she is a sunny, positive and cheerful girl. All the best with your time in China!

Great video, Sabrina! You are an astonishingly balanced and intelligent woman. It’s always good to be able to live with oneself, whatever one’s race, sex, sexual orientation ( you can tell I’m in the San Francisco Bay Area 😋), etc. In the US non white people are not only not respected but are taught to think of themselves as lesser human beings. That’s not what is happening in China where the society tries to make merit is the deciding factor. If I may, like to add a historical aspect for you to consider. In Europe, starting from about the 18th century, Europeans began to classify people based on “race” ( which to me is not a scientifically based concept). That didn’t happen in China. The Chinese, like the Persians, are sometimes said to be @ethnicentric”, that is, proud of being in a particular group. You will probably find that the Chinese are proud to be Chinese, is this not so? Race, religion don’t matter as this kind of ethnocentric identity.
You are a very lovely and positive person. I love your channel. You are always so positive. Your Mandarin Chinese is much better than mine and my family's, we speak Cantonese only. My family are Texan/Americans 😅.
