I have been watching the evangelical church go off the rails for a long time. I met Jesus in 1972. I was part of the Jesus movement.Many of us were hippies, drawn to the counter culture exactly because of injustice, racism, war mongering, oppression of women, environmental concerns, snd inequities in our society. We wanted change but sometimes went about it the wrong way. Jesus to me was the champion of the marginalized, the poor, the social outcasts. He respected women, and often broke with traditional attitudes towards their place in that highly Patriarchal culture. He won my heart. He is still the center of my being, and the one who informes me

The acknowledgement and the understanding of the truth gives me hope. These issues seem so clear and on the surface along with poverty concentration "good" and "bad", neighborhoods, and the American churches being really segregated along racial lines. Makes me wonder if we are really Christian at all.

It is surely a chance for us to examine that very question. "Running the race" gets very real then! It's hard, it's messy, we are not sure we can make it to the end if we are giving it all we have. That sounds a lot more like a genuine Christian life, one in which we are more and more reliant upon the very goodness, strength, help, and grace of God and ever more aware of our own limits, mortality, and fallibility. That is best for us and true to Christianity after all.

I am 72 and grew up in the Lutheran church and learned the important message from Luther to question the practices of religion. The present state of Christianity at this time in our country is so directly contradictory to what I consider to be goodness that I wonder how these people can identify as Christians. Then I see my mother and my sister and realize that religion is used by them to help others and to be better people. There are, I realize, so many people out there that are like them and use religion as a tool to help people rather than as a weapon to hurt others. The White Evangelical movement seems to me to be more of a fascist movement that is corrupting America than any semblance of a religion. I appreciate your talk and hope that you will have success in returning people to a constructive form of religion.

Christianity based solely on academics and cultural Christianity rooted in the color of one's skin is not what Christ laid His life down for. When we stand before the Bema seat of Christ and are recompensed for what we have done in the Body, my heart trembles (2 Cor.5:10). How do we plan on justifying our racist attitude in the Body of Christ??? I wonder if our quotes from various books will impress Christ; or our racial stance will move Him; or if our ideology that being white has made you superior above other people groups who love Christ will be readily accepted by Him; or possibly Christ will be happy with the compromises made against His Word so as to be politically correct, will get a nod from Him????? No, this sentence structure is definitely not academically correct, but what impresses us, moves us, gives us justification; or makes us feel like we are in control, will it be wood-hay-stubble; or gold-silver-and precious jewels. My heart weeps at the state of the church. Christ said he is coming back for a church without spot or wrinkle. God have mercy. We may impress others in the earth, but at the Bema seat of Christ, there will be no justification for all of these unloving, uncaring power hungry and ungodly behaviors. The Word of God tells the believer in Christ: 1. "By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another"-Jo. 13:35 2. "And he answered, 'You shall love the Lord your God with all of your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself." Luke 10:27, Deut 6:5 3. ".........God is opposed to the proud but give grace to the humble." - James 4:6 4. "I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word; that they may all be one, even as You Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent me." - John 17:20-21 .5. "But now there are many members, but one body. And the eye cannot say to the hand, 'I have no need of you." - 1 Cor 12: 20-21

So much goes into "protecting" and insulating white women to the ugliness going on. We are kept busy and questioned if we leave or change our social groups. They are like playpens to keep us in place and let our families know where we are and what we are doing all the time. We are not given space to find out or even go outside of our boundaries. And if we have such lives, we are considered the most fortunate of people, privileged white Americans. We are constantly reminded of how much worse our lives could be. We are given security of a sort for doing our jobs: focusing on our own homes and families and guarding ourselves from outside disruptions. We are also considered problematic and questionable (resulting in less money, less autonomy, less authority in the home, less freedom) if we change our routine significantly, if we hang out with or like new people, especially anyone of a different race. Our men are often very threatened by any kind of new influence and tend to skeptically insult attempts to bring in fresh or diverse points of view. Everything is a trap except the role of domestic, obedient, cooperative, affable woman not making waves. It's quite a setup! The threat and reality of shunning is a real thing, too, and the threat of it extends to our kids and husbands. It's really conform or be expelled from one's life, marriage, social groups, kids' lives, etc, especially in the South. Even in 2023. ETA: who knows if anyone will read this, but if they do, white feminism has done a lot of damage to the cause of equity for black women. That history is not well-known since they don't play it up. But the hiding of historical racism in our own ranks lives on through the decades we enjoyed suffrage while leaving our sisters who labored with us for this right - like Ida Bae Wells - behind. There is good reason to suppress this shameful history from the very same segment of society who benefitted from this betrayal one of the very few times we actually tried to use our power.

You see my dear, people are misinformed about our true identity. There's no white, black, American, African, man or woman in the Spiritual World. We are not these bodies. We are Spirit Souls. The bodies that we identify with are only garments supplied by material nature because of karmic debts. The soul is only transmigrating through different species and bodies because of our desires we put into action . Those actions incur reactions, hence our sorjurn from body to body in the various species throughout the material creation. In Christianity because the concept of karma and reincarnation has been deliberately taken out of its doctrine, Believe and Salvation has been entrenched as the foundamental Doctrine. The concept of who is the Supreme Being and how He looks like are vaguely defined in the Abraham ic religious beliefs of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Because of that, these three Religions, especially Christianity and Islam had and still been manipulated in the hands of the most powerful countries and some ethnic groups to entrench their economic and political domination of the world. To surmise, many people join religious groups to safeguard their ideocincracies, economic interests and ethnic (race) preservation. God is only the front man. That said, there are many many genuine people looking for God only to fall prey to the machinations of some greedy crooks in the guise of 'Men of God'. The Real Men of God are therefore sidelined or drown out of the equation most of the time.

2 things in this discussion struck me. 1. That they acknowledged at the start that whiteness is not a norm. 2. The need for hope from the editor. Whiteness is uncomfortable with being discomforted. And even when holding up a mirror to whiteness, it needs to be couched. POC don't get cushioned when navigating white spaces, so we neither expect it, nor require it.

What is "the white church"? Who invented it? What, for that matter, is the "black" church, or the "aboriginal church," or the "Jewish church," or the "European church" or the "male church" or any other such thing? All I know is a the Body of Christ, in which people are full members, regardless of race. All are saved by the blood of Christ, and all are children of God. If somebody's in a different "church," then it isn't one.

What your saying is true but to answer your questions, our social constructs is what defines our churches, which is why we have such divisions in them. Churches are more about supporting or creating new foundations in our human (and earthly) beliefs that have nothing to do with the teachings of Jesus Christ. That's what the "white church" or "_______ church" is. Many of these churches are "invented" by those who think they are the supposed center of their own universe and of their understanding of who they believe God really is. Is God for the rich? The poor? The privileged? For white people? For black people? Of course, he's for all people, but in our insidious ways as humans, so many of them think they can compartmentalize God and tells us what he really thinks about those who are different from us. This is the greatest failing of the church and if we (yes, I'm a Christian) don't humble ourselves before God and realize that he is in control, it will implode on itself. All are saved by the blood of Jesus Christ who believe that he is the risen son of God.

You are correct. CRT is defining how we should act to join the World Religious Movement. The lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life is not of Jesus. Only the Lord can solve any problem--including racial/cultural Sin. That the progressives, feminists, despise biblical order, sound doctrine, and the proper perspective of the preeminent Jesus Christ as King of kings, and Lord of lords is the problem.

Okay Kristen du Mez, I have not read your book or watched any of your speeches yet but I read the premise of your book so I have a good idea of where you stand. It's perfectly okay to dislike the 'Southern Evangelical' movement. You're entitled to speak your mind. But about "White evangelicals most deeply held values: patriarchy, authoritarian rule...ambivalence towards MeToo and opposition to BLM and LGBTQ" When is the last time you actually sat down to talk with one of these pastors to gain a deeper understanding of his beliefs. Or do you automatically think because he doesn't support these three groups he must be misogynist, racist and homophobic? I mean, you can disagree all day long with a group and still love and respect the people as human beings. When is the last time you did your research on these people besides what the media and Hollywood told you? As far as MeToo is concerned, the reason I disagree with the movement in itself is not because I'm "against women" because the movement's perspective of determining truth is different from the Bible. "A lone witness is not sufficient to establish any wrongdoing or sin against a man regardless of what offense he may have committed. A matter must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses." Deuteronomy 19:15 People who look at MeToo and think white male privilege and "the patriarchy" is the problem are not seeing the bigger picture. People who look at the accusations and say "Where's the proof? Why did she wait twenty years before coming out on social media and television and giving names?" see the REAL problem. If you think it's possible for a false accusation in the power of a man to ruin someone's life what makes you think a woman wouldn't take advantage of that kind of power too?

All this identifying as something within an institution, with all it’s complexities, sounds really exhausting. Not being able to be a decent human being, absent of the institution, sounds un-evolved and unfortunate.. I would even go so far to say that all trouble in the world comes from some type of indoctrinated, instructions, rendering the group rigid with a fix perspective of how life should be, when all the while, the truth contradicts these set of instructions every time.. As soon as we begin defining our lives with the narrative about the relationship we have with (A) G-d and from him we take our instructions on what life is, we begin with a damn lie. And because of that very fact, the outcomes, from the very beginning of that lie, is what everything is today.. I’m black (for context) and somehow blaming white men/women changing what a type of faith was supposed to be, is pathological, because there was no time in history, ever, not pass one second, where these rigid instructions, represented or experienced, a collective goodness.. Worst yet, certainly no time in U.S history.. So what broken idea in the first place, requires repairing and back to what state? Religion is us vs. them.. And when you get to comparing, the truth is, none of it is true nor is it real.. A discussion about the history of undeveloped narcissists from the hunting and gathering days, using a type of instruction, as utility, to control the masses for their gain, which racism is a byproduct of, is more conservative and truthful and could actually make gains in a healthier future..

@marvakubalik3668: to answer your question, there are excrllent well researched investigations into the reasons and seeds of origon of how and why we are at this point in American Evangelicalism and as a culture. Katherine Stewart's "The Power Worshippers," Robert P Jones " White Too Long, " and his newest offering takes a deep dive into history to find the roots of White Supremacy and Nationalism, Anne Nelson's " The Shadow Network," and " The Family," and its sequel ," The Undertow." All are insightful, honest, footnoted, backed by documents. I hope this helps you on your quest. Its not a pretty picture, but the truth is the only way for a course correction. I have only listened Robert P.Jones on podcasts. He is a truth teller and documents everything he shares. I myself was embedded into the whole Evangelical experience and can vouch for everything revealed in these books. I was in the belly of the beast for several decades, growing increasinhly alarmed as time went on. I left in 2016 and have not yet found a church home that has not been tainted. Keeping my eyes on Jesus and meditating on His Word. The Holy Post podcast has been a wonderful source of balanced theology, faithful to the scriptures, and bearers of good fruit. It might encourage you as well. It aires on Wednesday mornings. God bless.

1 timothy 2:11-15 A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. But women will be saved through childbearing-if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety. What do women think of this passage?
@Himmiefan
@Himmiefan 2 жыл бұрын
You can't lift a passage out of a whole book and say it's God's will, yet that's what the sinful, worldly view of male entitlement has done. That's what the foundation of conservative religion is: male comfort and male power. Paul was speaking to the church of Ephesians about a particular situation, influence from the cult of Diana. Jesus never spoke of limiting the role of women (the majority of humanity, by the way), so that's how we know these verses are not for everyone for all time.
