Not surprising to me. Life coaches as a whole are a pretty medically illiterate concept. Their whole job is to give people advice for their problems, which anyone who’s studied to work in the medical field at all knows patients who are truly struggling don’t need. People don’t want advice, they want solutions, and a doctor can give you that far quicker than a “life coach” can.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Getting cancer under 50 is usually genetics. Although food or lifestyle plays a role in cancer, genetics also play a big role too. Just because someone eats healthy or works out, doesn't mean that they're not going to get cancer. Some people are genetically more prone to cancer and not everyone's immune system reacts the same way to carcinogens.

@@one-onessadhalf3393 thanks. I was just trying to confirm that food and lifestyle habits aren’t the only things that can cause cancer and genetics play a big role in it too. Plus, it can alert them that if their relative’s cancer diagnosis is genetically related, they have to be careful too. And I also tried to say that it wasn’t their relative’s fault that they were diagnosed with cancer. A little bit of information never hurts anyone.

My mom is like that, she has an brutal chronic illness but because she has an rare non-terminal version of it, she thinks everyone else who has it, and is depressed about it, it is lazy and should just 'eat their way out of it by having a good diet'. She occasionally criticizes people in the support group she's in for being 'mopey' and sad about their conditions and judging them for 'giving up and whining" about it when most of these people have between 6 months to a year to live after diagnosis and even if they have a guestimate of living until 40-50 ish, it's incredibly debilitating and painful and changes your appearance and makes it impossible to live comfortably. It's sad to see. :(

As a Mexican, I think I'll say a few things about this: It's rather well known that every country has a special international dish right? Well, Mexican food IS the special dish. Since 2010, Mexican cuisine has been officially regarded as an International TREASURE, and cultural staple of the world. (Even our drinks are highly valued!) We just tend to have larger body types, I personally have a hard time finding good pants because I have good and strong hips (my hips can help me carry a big basket like the ones you see peasants use in movies or history media). Speaking of history! Food related health concerns in Mexico only really began due to the USA's influence, that being, usage of preservatives in soldier's rations, which eventually spread to markets and to households. Since Mexican culture has such a prevalent focus on family, and, to an extant, those you consider to be family (friends, neighbors and such), ingredients once were often locally grown, picked, prepared, and eaten on the same day. With the eventual rise of supermarket goods, more long lasting foods available, as well as the introduction of fast food franchises, this has led to more food related health concerns, though nowhere near the level SOME PEOPLE may think. It's more so unhealthy preservatives in food than the food itself. Mexican food is totally fine to eat, and it's wonderfully satisfying, it's even world-star certified levels of tasty! To everyone: It is not the shape or size of your body that decides if you are healthy or not, it is what you do and don't do to that body that determines your health! Gonna end this wall of text with a huge thank you to whoever took the time to read this, alongside sharing one of my favorite phrases ever! "Your ancestors did not starve for you to do the same. It is a joy and an honor to live in the prosperity that they could only have dreamed of." Thank you for reading, now go and have something yummy!

To be fair as an American that loves the palentina a little to much. Mexican food isn’t the healthiest thing, but as long you keep things basic tacos and stuff like huevos rancheros. You’re all good. There is a reason for Mexican food being high calorie. Mainly being the fact that it’s traditionally a labor based society. Meaning you need a higher caloric intake.

Asgahhah even the sunlight UV radiation can cause cancer. Our bodies are simply are not made to last, aging to death is just piling up genetic damage to our DNA. There are some truth in it though. Cured meat with nitrates are actually a legit group 1 carcinogen (meaning they are tested and observed to actually increase the risk of cancer) listed in WHO. It can cause a digestion system cancer. Nitrate is also the one that is partly responsible for colorectal cancer in drinking water. That being said cancer are usually probabilities based despite the build up. You could eat cured meat your whole life and died not having any cancer. Or just stroll under the sunlight one time where your trancription messed up from the radiation and got cancer.

As someone who's 22 with cancer, the sheer amount of "young people can't get cancer, you must have done something wrong" is staggering. Is every single oncology waiting room I sit in filled only with old people aside from me? Yup. It's just not overtly common for young people to get cancer, but it happens naturally (unfortunatly) regardless of enviroment and lifestyle. My doctors all triple checked and yeah, there was no cause they could see for my cancer, it was just... Something my body decided to do one day. Certainly not old enough for food to have been a factor in all this 🙄

Give me and my friend a peanut to eat, one of us is dropping dead from anaphylactic shock and the other is completely fine. You might be able to drink milk just fine, but when I drink it, my stomach inflames because I have lactose intolerance. I mean, even Chef Bob can theoretically be proof we don't digest food the same way; maybe both him and his daughter eat salads together, but Chef Bob literally cannot process the food because of his cancer treatments and he vomits it back up. 14:54 As a Mexican, i was told this my entire life and fed this information that hispanic food tends to make you over weight. Like most Hispanic families your parents tend to over feed you with pozole, tortas, tamales, huaraches, quesadillas, and much more. Most hispanic dishes contains beans, which actually lowers the risk of heart disease. As well as chilies and other hot peppers are full of capsaicin which helps fight off viruses and over 16 different types of fungal pathogens. I didn’t know this, and being told my culture’s food and food in general would damage my body, i began to starve myself.

@karinalumen9722it’s also the way it’s cooked… it’s like with ever homecooked bs fast food food. If you do it "traditional" and at home with fresh ingredients it won’t be unhealthy and it will be just fine! However if you eat it at a fast food place… well chances are it’s been cooked in way too much unhealthy oils, stuffed with enhancers and unhealthy preservatives while using non fresh ingredients. If you apply the same to your home, cooking less fresh and with too much unhealthy fats you will get a more unhealthy meal. So the type of food we eat IS important, just like how much we eat of it. However, no food or food culture is inherently unhealthy… it’s just how we do it! And sadly enough for most Americans, their experience of "Mexican" food is Taco Bell and deepening every normal meal. Of course that’s not healthy when that is what you eat in quantities that could feed a whole football team!

The obsession/fetishization of teenagers makes absolutely no sense to me. Not like it actually matters because being attractive is not the tax you have to pay to exist, but I can attest that I am waaaaaaaaay hotter now at 24 than I was at 18. And definitely hotter than when I was 16. I was so awkward and unconfident as a teen. I carried myself poorly, my body hadn't fully developed so I was unproportional. My face still had baby fat. I wore clothing I hated because I was too afraid to dress how I wanted. My makeup sucked ass. Teenagers are awkward baby people. I can't fathom being attracted to them as an adult. Like that's a whole child. Edit: Woah, thank you for all the likes and replies! For those sharing their stories with abusers, I hope that you all have found peace and safety far away from those monsters. I, too, got into the hands of someone like that when I was 15 and it was one of the worst few months of my life. And I am aware it is a power dynamic thing that attracts these creeps. It just amazes me that someone can look past how objectively unattractive a teenager is both physically and mentally just to have power. It just goes to show how truly sick in the head these people are!

my dad died of lung cancer and he never even smoked cigs, he was extremely into good health and fitness, he kept himself on an insanely strict diet and work out schedule daily. the lung cancer came from working in a very old building that had bad air, i really hate telling people sometimes why he passed because i always get people saying stuff like "don't smoke" and with how much care, effort and hard work my father put into his body and health it feels like a complete insult to him and everything he was.

im so sorry about your dad. the stigma around lung cancer is another thing thats wrong with society. my mom had died recently from a form of lung cancer that develops in non smokers. i understand what its like hearing people say that so matter-of-factly when in reality they dont know anything. take care out there.

My mom died of skin cancer and people would make snide comments along the lines of "that's what you get for tanning." She didn't!! She was a pasty white woman obsessed with sunscreen. It was likely due to genetics as both her sisters also had some form of skin cancer and all three of them had varying levels of sun exposure/damage. If someone is going through or has lost someone to cancer, it is so rude to just assume (and then tell them!) that it's the cancer patient's fault!

I’m so sorry for your loss. I hate the idea that people who engage in “unhealthy” behaviours deserve the consequences of doing so, and I especially hate that people will automatically assume anyone who gets a cancer like any lung one had to have smoked. Nobody deserves to get cancer, even if someone is unhealthy as unhealthy can get.

The thing about cancer really angered me the most. My Grandpa passed away from a particularly aggressive type of cancer a few years ago. He fished, he kayaked, he played tennis, ate plenty of vegetables, and did everything a ‘healthy’ person would do. Cancer doesn’t discriminate against who it takes. Yes, certain habits and behaviors can make you more at risk of developing cancer, but even a perfectly healthy person can develop this disease.

As someone who does know and/or has known 2 people with cancer, I am LIVID for Bob. My sister is one of those people. She's so, so, so, incredibly healthy, she’s vegan, she exercises, she takes care of her body, and the idea that someone is out here, acting like it’s the cancer patient's fault for having cancer is completely ridiculous. My grandfather also had cancer. He died last year the day before thanksgiving. He had been sick for months, but before that, he was also very healthy. He took care of himself. Cancer does not care. You can be the healthiest person on earth. It doesn’t matter. Anyone can develop cancer.

Cancer does not discriminate. A large part of it is a mutation of your OWN CELLS. I hate when people blame a cancer patient for their cancer; yes, there are factors that may CONTRIBUTE to certain types of cancers (smoking with lung cancer, for example), it is important to remember that correlation does NOT equal causation

Yup. Cancer is more of a genetic thing. My family is prone to strokes and diabetes but my friends family is prone to cancer. Ofc it can happen to anyone, but it's far more likely if you're genetically predisposed.
