All latin based languages have woman and men, heck we have gender for objects for example table (in romanian "masă) it's gendered feminine, and chair (scaun) is gendered masculine. Some words can be gendered masculine in its single form but gendered feminine in its plural form (or vice versa). P.S. If you want to picture it, objects have genders as animals have genders like lion and lioness, but objects are fixed in their gender because objects can't have bimodal sexual characteristics.

I had the “you don’t have to accept her rejection” thing happen to me at work once while I was working at the gate. Asked me if I was in high school then proceeded to hit on me, continuing after I informed him I was in a happy relationship of several years, saying “he doesn’t have to know”, and then insinuating I was racist when I continued to be uncomfortable about his “compliments”. He only left after his daughter came up with his GRANDCHILD. Happened in the span of a minute or two, but felt like an eternity.
