All latin based languages have woman and men, heck we have gender for objects for example table (in romanian "masă) it's gendered feminine, and chair (scaun) is gendered masculine. Some words can be gendered masculine in its single form but gendered feminine in its plural form (or vice versa). P.S. If you want to picture it, objects have genders as animals have genders like lion and lioness, but objects are fixed in their gender because objects can't have bimodal sexual characteristics.
