Actually, you need a really high IQ to understand Racist Mario. See, it's actually really clever to have other non-nintendo IPs apart of the race, it's what makes Mario "racist" in a sense, which is even more fitting due to them all racing in a round of Mario Kart. The scene with Peach's black eye is also a really good foreshadowing of how extreme Mario's character is in this web IP. We see Mario kill each non-nintendo racer, which all concludes when Mario gets the banzai bill item, where he says the n word, which shows that Mario isn't racist anymore, he's now RACIST. Kratos killing Mario is actually a symbolism on how being racist have not only effected the people around you, but also yourself, as Mario turns into a giant monster. Kratos didn't just kill Mario, he killed Racism, which is why Peach and Daisy go naked for him.

Flashgitz's humor reminds me of the second half of Yathzee's old video about webcomics. All you need to get laughs from gaming humor is to add very superficial memes of the games or characters with a hint of edgelord violence and you are golden. Since Flashgitz artstyle looks "polished" despite being poorly animated, that allows them to stand out from all other mediocre video game parody animation. They are the definition of a polished turd.

Racist Mario has 158 million views currently in 2023. Let that sink in. I remember watching Racist Mario when I was 7 years old back in 2014 and I completely forgot about it until a few months ago when I remembered it. Honestly is a shame that it is considered nostalgia and a KZbin classic. It is one of the most generic, bland and soulless video game parodies out there and it is sad other video game parodies like “Luigi’s Day Out”, “Smash Kingdom Mayhem” and the Sonic Shorts series by Sonic Paradox are overshadowed and aren’t as fondly remembered. I think the reason Racist Mario blew up and became popular is because it was the peak of offensive, edgy and crude humor on the internet and the fact the video didn’t get taken down or removed from KZbin. Especially since video game parodies slowly died after Racist Mario came out, The video just boils down to shock value.

Honestly as someone who did somewhat enjoy the animation when it was fresh, (to the point that I remember the old thumbnail without the hijab), I understood and resonated with this video a lot. Honestly it kinda explains for me why I've lost interest in most of these types of animation. I think what some people aren't understanding about the whole point about something being "too professional", is it's not about being skillful being bad somehow, but the byproduct of things being made with bigger budget, team, resources, (and in the worst cases, having to change to appease a committee that doesn't actually work on the thing and is only thinking about how to make more money out of it). The byproduct is making something feel sterile and lacking personality. And its kind of an anomaly that the duo thats flashgitz somehow reproduced that feeling. And the George Calin bit wasn't just to compare two very different things, but to show how even the tiniest of things like "Have a nice day" that is recognized by everyone can be used for humor without only being gore + violence = funny. And that bit wasn't even like something advanced or high brow, just relatable but normally not thought about much by most people

It’s not just that Racist Mario is bad, it’s that it’s bad and it’s influential. It inspired other creators to use the same lazy jokes and painted the entire genre in a negative light. If Racist Mario only had a thousand views, no one would have bothered making an analysis on it. The "intimacy of amateurism" really hits the nail on the head and is what I think makes for instance salad fingers so good. I watched it for the first time ever this year and it absolutely mesmerized me bc I feel like I genuinely never saw anything like it and one of the most alluring aspects of it to me was how serene, I think I would call it, the experience felt, exactly bc of that intimacy you speak of. It's an aspect that more flash animations have that salad fingers exploited to its full potential bc of its particular tone and general priorities. The contrast really stands out when you compare the early episodes to the last I think two that came out that are full blown productions that, while quite good looking and at times impressive pieces of animation, simply lack entirely the charm that made the original 10 (in my opinion) first episodes great. There's no more of that good feeling of cozy solitude of knowing it could be/probably was made by a guy in his room in his parents house in a shitty computer or something. You just can't help watching the later ones with the unpleasant feeling of a team behind it specifically engineering it to make it as #iconic as possible.

I feel as if everything I have watched and enjoyed in the past 6 to 7 years is all wasted because I have to notice that everything I liked was made for shock laughs. Like nothing I enjoyed had any real meaning. I have wasted most if not all my childhood here or playing games I don't like, and the more I think and think the more I want to not think and just fucking enjoy something. I'm 16, and everyone that I liked on this platform has either been awful people pushing awful thoughts or pedos and I hate that this shit became so popular that shock is the norm. Now everything is meta or ironic and all I want is to turn of the internet and live as a monk or something. I hate that preteens and teens like trash humor like I did and the only thing I can do to fix that is to forget, but 3 years of garbage thinking and trash youtube content make me want to fix myself and I don't know how, I subconsciously want to think being left or being close to that will fix me but it won't and it's making me worse and I hope to God that someone out there on the worst and best website ever had the same experience so I can cry with them. I feel like Racist Mario is only bad because it hasn’t aged well, like most edgy early 2010s works. Back then there were plenty of people trying to make Mario less kid friendly in their own way. Modern Flashgitz has some kind of satirical perspective on his nintendo related animations in a more nuanced way; Racist Mario was just…well, Mario being racist, abusive, and straight up evil. And at the time, people thought that was quality since it wasn’t as common back then.

I heavily disagree with Racist Mario being the worst web animation. At least when it was made back in 2014. Several moments in Racist Mario landed for me, and several sound clips would be used in other popular media like SMG4 (Trust me, three clips alone is enough to prove that). I'd argue the Kratos finale is actually worrth watching for how bizarre and ridiculous it is. I think Racist Mario's success is not just from its gimmick, but from how bonkers and on-the-wall it is. It's not afraid to throw the next jokes without hesitation. The lack of restraint really benefited the short. However, as I said, in 2014, it was a masterpiece. But if something like that was made today, it would've been laughable, if not unacceptable since things have changed. Even FlashGitz's newer videos try to do more than just shock and randomness (if their anime videos have anything to say). If I gotta say, I think we should see shorts like Racist Mario for what it was than what it is now. And I think the media we got today might be worse without that short released back then. And I'm not saying that as though the short is a guideline of what NOT to do, but also of what to do as well.

racist mario is the kind of thing i don't want to see end. not because i enjoy it, but because i really don't want to see how it decides it's gonna end itself. gross out humor has never exactly been my cup of tea because it's a kind of humor that requires far more effort to make it clever, whereas you could just not do gross out humor and go with jokes that are not only easier to string together and make memorable, but it'd also be actually funny. comedy is the most subjective thing in the human race, but i can comfortably say that nobody i'd consider a likeable individual wants to see ash ketchum strip his clothes with a face like an ashtray.
