Every diesel boat should have a dual setup. I've been fully disabled and stranded in heavy seas from diesel bug and this would have kept me from having to be towed in. You can polish your diesel but it's expensive unless you do it yourself. And even if you polish it every year - diesel bug can still take you out. I'm working installing these for each engine. It's pricey but so worth the piece of mind.

I agree and installed this after a similar incident. I was able to limp home but just barely.

Great video... I’ve got the 75/500 Dual set fot my Perkins 4:108 and use the 10micron for international travel. I carry a fuel polish system and lots of spare filters. Thank you!

Good deal. I agree. And it just gives a much greater piece of mind. One of the best changes I made.

The beauty of this dual system is the guage (my opinion). Filtering as a first stage is very good, and at 10 micron you could hook up a secondary pump/hose/return to act as a polisher which can run for an hour after fillup. The 10 micron has a 120/gph, so one hour is enough to cycle all the fuel at least once. Handy in the filthy carribean marinas or at rough seas when they churn up the bottom of the tanks. The guage is the masterpiece. It displays the pressure of the suction and has color coded bands. You can glance at it when the engines are running and see exactly when its time to switch to the other filter due to clogged filter. No more guessing via observations. I'd recommend this to everyone. 30 vs 10 vs 2 microns. All depends on your appetite for filter changes. The 30 will have less filter changes but I think lets in too much debris. You have two filters and the guage so go with 10 and have better first stage with less presure drop. The 2 is way too restrictive in first stage and will result in constant filter changes and is really redundant if you have a filter at the engine, which is always 2 microns.

The gauge is very useful. I am very happy with this addition.

I'll be doing this as well. But I will also add a pump so that I can prime the filters and polish my fuel.
@mvintrigue-trawlerdiy11012 жыл бұрын
Applying positive pressure on the filters will also show potential leaks that you might not see under vacuum. But under vacuum those leaks would be air getting into the system.

These are such a nice, compact simple solution. I'm surprised more people don't use this dual unit. The only thing I would add is that there is the vacuum gauge on top. I'm changing mine to a remote gauge at the helm so you can monitor the vacuum ( vacuum increases as filter clogs) without looking where the filter assembly is mounted, in my case, under the cockpit sole. Nice job on video as always!

Curious as to how you're doing the remote mod. I asked racor if I could use the rk-19668 with one of their dual filter assemblies and they said that they weren't compatible.

Just saw this reply. I got a hose barb that fit the valve where the gauge is now, and the surface mount Racor gauge kit, which had vacuum hose barb on back. Then vacuum hose to length. Works well. Only drawback is the Racor gauge isn't lighted, and can't remember if it has a high mark tell-tail needle, just the needle showing current vacuum. BTW, I have the smaller 500 assembly @@russseff1246

What is the red plastic loose ring in the bowl of the 500?
@mvintrigue-trawlerdiy11013 жыл бұрын
Supposedly it will float at the waterline between fuel and water.

I'm thinking the 900 series flows 90 GPH. I think it's only 180 GPH if you set the selector valve to use both filters, simultaneously.

We never use 10 always 30. we were using 10 µm and they were getting clogged up so now only 30

Gould have went with the Chinese one and saved your money and built a second system for fuel polishing to ultra clean your tanks
@mvintrigue-trawlerdiy1101 Жыл бұрын
I bought several chinese versions to do exactly that. The chinese versions where pretty decent quality too. But then i got a good deal on the dual, larger 900 series. The main reason i went with it was the compactness of that package. Its good set up.
@donaldpetrey3064 Жыл бұрын
@@mvintrigue-trawlerdiy1101 I hear you but for the money spent you could have built 3or 4 Chinese versions and resold them to fellow boaters. I’m looking at doing a Chinese diesel heater in my boat. Also waiting for an email or text from you to show you my boat

Why not try a 2 Micron on one side and a10 on the other and run engine at WOT to see if the 2 Microns will allow Adequate fuel Flow with the RPMS that are Normal
@mvintrigue-trawlerdiy11013 жыл бұрын
This RACOR is the first stage filter. It is meant to handle the larger particulates. There is a 2 micron that is actually mounted to the engine for final filtering. Typically most run a 30 micron for first stage but because of the large size and flow capability of the 900 going with a 10 is splitting the difference. It should be an improvement in filtering and flow availability.
