Adding weight to the head of your racquet will help increase plow through and swingweight. Here are the three applications that will enhance the performance of your racquet.
1) 1:29 - Power and ideal for topspin players
2) 1:45 - Stability and ideal for flat-hitting players
3) 2:31 - Combination of power and stability
2:52 - Here's a fourth application of adding weight to the throat of the racquet which maintains the balance and gives the racquet a solid feel.

hi albert. i know this video is 2 years old, so i dont know if you still moderate it. if you do, im curious how lead tape can be installed before stringing. i saw a photo of novak finishing a follow-thru behind his head. i noticed how neatly the lead tape was installed. its obvious the grommets were removed, the lead tape installed inside the frame, and perhaps a drill bit was used to make holes to reinstall the grommets. if i find the photo, i'll send it to your email.

Aloha Coach Dudley, I think I know the lead tape installation job you're referring to. I've seen some firsthand on racquets I was stringing for the Pro Challenger events here in Hawaii. The lead tape reminded me of those red paper strips that were fed into a toy gun that contained powder that made a "popping" sound when the hammer struck it. These toy guns were popular in the 60-70s, when I was growing up. I asked the players about the lead tape, and they mentioned a guy who customized racquets in Texas was the one who did them. I can't remember the guy's name. I was curious how he accounted for the "loss of weight" when the lead tape was drilled through and not reinstalled. The other thought that came to mind was the risk of the lead tape "drill flash" falling into the frame during the drilling process. And I agree, they were well done! 🤙

@@AMstringing the lead tape might have been drilled from the outside of the frame. for my own racquets, i mark along the edge of the lead tape and cut out small semicircles with an x-acto knife.

I had add weight to handle of Head TiS6. Balance move from 8 pts HH to 10 pts HL But i have plan to add lead tape on 3 & 9 on the hoop to make it stable than the default. What do you think sir?
@AMstringing
@AMstringing Жыл бұрын
Aloha, Wow, that's quite a difference in balance points! It's good that you added weight to your TiS6, that racquet is too light to begin with. Adding 4" of 1/2" width (cut in half) would increase your swingweight by about 10 units and should be noticeable to you. However, some players are more sensitive than others. From there, you can add or subtract weight as needed. In my opinion, instead of going through that much trouble customizing your TiS6, you may want to consider switching to another racquet that comes with the inherent weight already built into the frame. The racquet I would recommend is the Prince O3 Legacy 120. Everyone that I've converted to the O3 Legacy 120 loves it! 🤙 You can check out the Prince O3 Legacy 120 here! www.tennis-warehouse.com/Prince_O3_Legacy_120/descpageRCTWABG-P3LY12.html

@@AMstringing I am aleady saw that TW website. I decided not to take it, bcos it is EQUAL spec with ti s6, oversize-head with HH-balance. I dont want buy 2 racquets with similar spec, its not worthy. I am prefer to another level, racquet with 100 - 105 headsize, HL- balance, slight heavier. Do you have any advice?
@AMstringing
@AMstringing Жыл бұрын
@@ondybandung6096 Okay that makes sense if you're not "married" to the headsize of the Head TiS6. What you want to pay attention to is the swingweight measurement of the racquet instead of the balance. The swingweight of a racquet is what you're going to feel more than the balance. Before I compare your TiS6 racquet to some recommended Prince racquets, in my opinion, you probably should be looking for a racquet with a 320 swingweight (strung). * Here are the specs of your Head TiS6 - 8.5 oz weight / 27.75" length / 73 stiffness / 300 SWINGWEIGHT * O3 Legacy 105 - 10.4 oz. / 27.25" length / 67 stiffness / 321 SWINGWEIGHT www.tennis-warehouse.com/Prince_O3_Legacy_105/descpageRCLEADER-P3LY05.html * Ripstick 100 (300) - 11.2 oz. / 27" length / 64 stiffness / 325 SWINGWEIGHT www.tennis-warehouse.com/Prince_ATS_Textreme_Tour_100_310/descpageRCTWABG-ATR310.html * ATS Textreme Tour 100 (310) - 11.5 oz. / 27" length / 62 stiffness / 323 SWINGWEIGHT www.tennis-warehouse.com/Prince_ATS_Textreme_Tour_100_310/descpageRCTWABG-ATR310.html If you're interested in another brand, you can start by looking for similar specs listed above. Hi, excellent explanation as always, and I love your videos, as you added weight at 2&10 in your video, if 4x4” of 1/4” should equal 4grams added to the head how much should I add to the handle to counterweight the balance on the frame ? I always add to 2&10, but I recently added to the handle and it played significantly better, I added the same amount of weight, but my elbow/wrist was not too happy..
@AMstringing
@AMstringing Жыл бұрын
Aloha Brendan, First, it's not always necessary to add weight to the handle to counterbalance the frame since swingweight is what you're going to feel, more than the actual balance of the frame. However, adding weight to the handle will give your racquet a more solid feel at contact. Second, when you added weight to the handle, where did you apply it and what did you use?
@brendandunne3943
@brendandunne3943 Жыл бұрын
@@AMstringing thank you, I added 4x4” lead strips to the handle beneath the original grip, 1 strip equally on the main 4 bevels, top, bottom and sides. a total additional weight of 4grams. I have since reduced the weight overall by 3grams and moved the tape up two grommets higher on the head and wow what a difference.. a small amount of weight really makes a huge difference.
@AMstringing
@AMstringing Жыл бұрын
@@brendandunne3943 Sounds like you found the right combination of weight and locations! 👍FYI, I usually prefer not to apply lead under the grip due to the fact that it can increase the grip slightly. Other options include the application of lead tape at the top of the handle and injecting silicone inside the pallet. Silicone is a permanent solution, but has dampening properties.
