Thanks so much for this video! I'm 57 and I've never sharpened a knife until after I watched your 'tutorial' just now. I've always bought cheap kitchen knives and just got new sets when the old ones became unusable, though that seemed so wasteful. A couple years ago my last knives had become as useful as butterknives so I asked my dad how to sharpen them. (Before I saw him again I'd ordered more through Amazon.) The next time I saw him he said 'here' and handed me a bag with this RADA and a stone...as if I would have a clue what to do with them, lol. My new knives arrived and they were so new and sharp and made everything so much easier I just put his 'gifts' into a drawer. Thanks to the pandemic (and a desire to lose weight) I've been cooking at home almost exclusively and my new set had gotten to the point of barely cutting my garden tomatoes (and watermelon rinds were giving me trouble) so I pulled out the stone and this RADA sharpener, and was back to not having any idea about what to do. I found this video, sharpened my knives, and easily sliced up some grape tomatoes instead of squishing them. It's so easy once you know what to do. I know my cheapy knives won't last as long as better sets, but now I definitely will be able to extend their useful lifetimes! Thanks again!

Thank you for this video! I recently bought a couple of RADA knives. I did so because they are made in USA and made well. Had to get this $10 sharpener. Never sharpened my knives myself. Would take them to a kiosk in a shopping center. I could not figure how to use the sharpener. Your video is much appreciated. Now I sharpen all my knives and I do a much better job myself with this little thing.😃 I always have very sharp knives.

I watched your video just to learn how to use this sharpener specifically and thank you!! I just received a set of kitchen knives that are Rada and my sharpener came with my set. The knives are really nice and work great too.

These are good to get more use out of old kitchen knives 🔪 and basic user knives. People talk down these, but they work great as a first step to reprofile a user blade.

Somehow, this is still the most effective and easy to use sharpener I've found. A couple of shlops through the wheels and it's arm hair shaving sharp. Great for butchering and filet knives. You gotta experiment a bit with pressure to take a little metal off the blade and get an edge on it, then lighten up to take the burr off.
@Steven-gv1ke4 күн бұрын
Stropping the knife on a leather strop after using this would be the best way to remove the bur, and guarantee the blade stays sharp longer.

There appears to be hidden genius in the design, but it all depends on the user angling the handle correctly, relative to the sharpener. It is similar to the Brod & Taylor technique. Handle up would be coarse sharpening (grinding), and handle down would be fine sharpening (honing). And of course, the downward pressure is important. What I'm not clear on is what the knife bevel angle is supposed to be. It appears to be quite wide.

I absolutely suck at sharpening but I love my knives and I love collecting them for the o es I use a lot I’m thinking about using the spyderco sharpening system .. tell me why I shouldn’t.. I use a stone and just full and scratch the knife !!

Get the worksharp precision adjust system!! Just got one and my knives have never been sharper. Constantly sold out on Amazon and on their website. It's only $50 and gets you way better edges faster!! Edit: lmao I am not a bot or a shill btw. No kickbacks for me here.

Thanks for the video Jeff! I’m glad you like the sharpener. I agree, it is a good utility edge. It’s not precision hair slicing sharp, but it’s plenty good for most. It’s simple enough for anyone to use, and cheap enough for anyone to purchase. They do say a dull knife is more dangerous than a sharp one. I actually drilled some holes and mounted it to a piece of wood so it’s easier to use. I’ve had some good results with a light drag through sharpening it without peeling off too much metal. I have used some that only work with hard pressure and remove a ton of metal, so this is definitely a better option. Thanks again

Those round wheels are going to create concave (hollow) mini bevels on the edge. And I can tell by the sound that they're creating a course edge. If you're okay with that it should do the job for you. It's probably decent for some task.

I love the sharpfinger pattern but I can't stand the low end steel you find in the Schrades and the clones. Bark River makes a sharpfinger pattern in 3V.

Great for really cheap knives you don't care about. It takes off a lot of metal and will ruin a good knife edge faster than you can imagine. I had one and got rid of it when I realized how damaging it was.

You might wanna give Accusharp a try, not only was it recommended on america's test kitchen, but even projectfarm the YT channel tested it. It is dirt cheap for a pull sharpener compared to something like a 50 dollar chef's choice

I have one of these in my bag in my truck, just in case I need a quick sharpening, all my knives are users even my most expensive ones at least to me (200 to 400 dollars) and I would only use this in an emergency, since the lansky turn box is so portable that's what I'll use.

If you read the description and study some of the vids and photos, you'd can learn and see that it's hardened carbon steel discs with 90 degree corners on the edges. The base is nylon.

RADA has been making aluminum handled kitchcutlery for a long time. I might use this to keep the edge honed on one of their relatively soft knives, but of course you know it's not going to work on or be good for anything.

Unless the blade is really rolled or chipped, if you don't wet stone, then pull through. BUT if you stropped a kitchen knife after each use, you would have consistently sharp kitchen knives.

This should be embarrassing, but somehow it's not. If you want a cheap, easy, idiot style sharpener get one with crossed ceramic sticks. All of these style sharpeners ruin edges and make the job of actually sharpening that much more work. I won't even use these to rough in a new bevel on knives that need to be totally redone.
@tikkidaddy3 жыл бұрын
While most pull thrus are evil, I have to say that I have a new respect for Corona pruning sharpeners like the ones people use on Ferro rods. Match the 90 degree corners to the bevel and VERY lightly stroke much like using a Spyderco Triangle free hand. Excellent hone doesn't eat or peel metal unless you are using way too much pressure. Its like using a small artists brush. Its when too much pressure is used that we end up with screwed up edges
