I had one cop light me up with ka band while he was on the other side of the grass median and was going around 90+, I then saw his lights go on and he attempted to make a u-turn but by then I was long gone O_O I didnt realize I had my V1 turned down and I could have easily gotten the ticket if I didnt take the first exit and wait lol

Download waze app immediately......this is all true.i hadn't had my max very long and I was coming back to visit a relative in very north Georgia. It was pouring and I was speeding while passing a 18 wheeler I didn't realize I'm getting a legit k band sitting in the median on a small curve.i saw him i hit the brakes and he got me.instead of pulling out he turned his blue lights on to slow me down.This was 2015 and I'm 57 and that would have been my first and only ticket of any kind. I remember saying out loud thank you God .I'm sure it was just raining way to hard to write me a ticket because I mean both of us would have drowned

Does an officer need to currently have his radar/laser on for there to be any detection or does it also pick up a radio frequency they use or something? How likely are you to still see cops without it going off?

I’ve had many different detectors for around a year now and these only pick up a radar signal from the cops radar gun or built in radar in a cop car. I would say about 30% of the time I pass cops or see them they are just doing their own thing in there car and nothing will be picked up. Remember these are radar detectors not cop finders.

Newbie question. At what point do you slow down, when it first beeps or when it’s beeping very fast?

Slow down as soon as you can. Depending on the terrain of your area it’ll detect earlier or later. If it’s flat you’ll pick it up sooner where I live there’s a lot of hills and sharp turns so I gotta react quicker but on the highway you’ll always have a great range. Radars aren’t fool proof tho I always scan ahead even if it’s not picking up a signal. I absolutely love my V1 I’ve been using it for about 6 months and it hasn’t let me down

Soon as you hear beeping your probably done for. Radar detectors work best when you have cars ahead of you and you radar detector gets 'wind' of the beam hitting them. Gives you time to slow down. They have to at least visually see you I think. Unless they pull that doppler shift crap on you. Watch out for pacing too. I got a stern warning on the way to work one morning I was traveling down the interstate and I can't even tell you how fast I was going. I was passing cars left and right. Next thing I know this unmarked city cop comes flying up for about 5 seconds and he hit the lights. I motion me? He shakes his head and points to the side of the road. I looked down really fast in those seconds I was driving 98 in a 55 zone. He let me having it fussing when he got out of the car. This ain't no race track and of you hit somebody going triple digit speeds you're not going to survive! Whats up with that too fast for even cops to be driving and a work zone too?! He said you have two choices I can get someone to come down here and write you a ticket of you can take a warning and let this be a lesson. I said a warning is fine and I drove away.

I'd buy new, but they are currently out of stock on the V1 website. You can send them in to V1 for them to upgrade, but they charge for it.

I used to get a lot until I turned off K and X bands. Not once have I ever seen those bands being used by the police in my area. Ka is a sure bet every single time.

As the uploaded said, if it's Ka it will 100% be a cop. K is a different story...some vehicle's safety features use the K band and some store door openers can use K. The Valentine One is pretty good at filtering out false K alerts but on the occasion you will get one. The V1 also has different audible tones for Ka and K. So If I hear Ka coming for my V1 I instantly know it's a cop. If I hear K I'm a little more relaxed on the alert and tend to do more of a visual inspection around me first. Great radar detector!

You and I could drive in nc 8 hours a day 5 days a week and for one year and you will not find a k band cop in nc.they have two k band cops in asheboro and 1 unit in Bisco and 2 units near west end nc.is that enough to turn k band on.if you drove from ashville to the coast on i40 every day there is zero chance to get k band. Theres not much in this state.

To me, it looks like it would be more dangerous to use instant on radar. I feel if a detector got set off a person might take off trying to get away in panic or cause someone to wreck with the sudden notification. Whereas, if they just leave the radar on seems lile more level of a playing field. I'd actually feel better knowing cops were around. Why does everything have to be cryptic?

Radar detects your speed and camera takes the photo. They work together most units are placed close to one another. Radars are placed into oncoming traffic and camera takes photo from behind if you are above speed limit.

It actually has a lot to do with the companies that have “police packages” ford, chevy, and Dodge have deals with the police to manufacture cars, suvs, and trucks with special modifications just for them. It’s a thing they’ve had for over 40-60 years.

California and Minnesota Radar detectors are allowed in California and Minnesota, but they cannot be mounted on the inside of the windshield. These states have laws prohibiting any items from being on the windshield (as they may obstruct the driver’s view), so you can receive a ticket for mounting your radar detector there. Illinois, New Jersey, and New York Radar detectors are legal in Illinois, New Jersey, and New York, but only for private vehicles. Commercial vehicles are not allowed to use radar detectors, and will be subject to tickets if they do use them.

Overall this video is very good.im sure I drive much more than you do in nc. It would take me at least two months to get this much action.the down side to this vide keeping it from being epic is your radar detector. Yes your v1.it may have the worst ramp up and least sensitivity as any top shelf detector on KZbin. Half of your encounter ok but a few are just pathetic. These encounters lack any sort of urgency on how close or what direction is the cop.and not having any sort of frequency display is like my last escort without a spec meter in 1993 a 4500.if you would have had my bonded magnum or my redline this would have a 250k views.in my expert opinion (having a top line detector since 1986)your detector is lacking sensitivity and any sort of usable ramp up.in nc a m3 is exceptional because k band is the most difficult band to encounter
