I commute on those roads on a daily basis. There are 2 stationary radar signs but the real issue is when you get to Utica and it drops down to 25mph. The locals will patrol the side roads as well as sit in the VFW and wait. The V1 keeps you alert and amused in that area in particular. And of course coming and going on Hall road west of Utica they patrol on a regular basis.

You had the V1 on "logic" mode. Turn it to A mode and it should be the same or better than R7.

James Jolly every test I’ve seen done has the R7 beating out all the rest by a lot . But I still would recommend the V1 because it still can’t detect far enough it’s just the R7 will give you even farther detection for peace of mind

@@michaelroshko7067 you need to run it in Euro Mode with Custom sweeps. Ka guard is off too. That gives you better range. The sweeps prevents false alerts.

Movistar racing sounds good. I do like the new R7 don’t get me wrong. But I drive for a living and my V1 on long rang will pick up over a mile away it also will pick up around curves and hills. Again not saying anything bad about the R7 cause I may buy one my self, just didn’t thing the V1 was get a fare shot not being set up.

I have both the R7 and the Valentine One Both detectors are pretty equal in my experience with Ka band. I shut off K band and X band for both due to BSM and Stores in my area.

Seems like both detectors were picking up the traffic sensor at that light, which the R7 did grab sooner, but when it came to the speed sign the V1 was only maybe a couple car lengths behind when the R7 picked it up.

Cool test. Own the V1 last updated version (assume they arent going to update it anymore) with JBv1. Got the R3 when it first came out. Amazing performance, but missed the arrows. Just got the R7 and like it. Basically a R3 with arrows and possibly a slight bump in performance per some tests. Might sell R3 now, but undecided. V1 is super chatty and annoying with BSM, but has saved me so many times. R3 only a couple saves and R7 is new and still no saves yet. 1 save justifies their price in my book. After that they are free in my mind. Cost of ticket plus driving school is way more $/time to me than the upfront cost.

Thank you for the real world video. This helps affirm most other honest reviews in that the R7 outperforms the Valentine and most of all, although it may seem insignificant to the company, the basic minimum expectations for a RD of this price range should have better quality windshield mounting. That and the lack of another basic expectation: a mute button on the cigar lighter power adapter turned me off. The Uniden R7 seems to be the winner, both in quality and attention to detail. That's why I ditched my old Escort and passed on the Valentine V1 Gen2 and went with Uniden R7... Small details matter when making a good decision. I also heard that customer support is zero with V1... My hard earned money goes to the winner, not the losers 😁

I realize your measurements aren't exact but at 2:25 you guestimated the R7 detecting at a mile away. At around 5:04 The V1 alerted and you said about a quarter mile away? That didn't seem like 3 quarters of a mile difference. R7 has great range but it's a little too chatty for me. I returned it and am sticking with the tried and true V1.

I just did a 90 mile road trip with my newly purchased R7 and my V1G1 with the latest updates( which were done a couple years ago) detectors were mounted at dash level one one the left other on the right portions of the windshield I had no interference with either setting the other off, the R7 beat the V1 each and every time on Ka band, ( by a marginal difference)also the V 1 was much nosier with the K band junk signals from other cars and speed signs. So as long time V1 G1 fanboy it will be retired, sadly.

I still like my V1 Gen 1, but it's getting beat easily by features and sensitivity these days. Does it matter a whole lot? Probably not. Gen 1 w/BT accessories and the new Gen 2 is needing a phone to work them fully but having the ability to do everything at the unit is my preference. I'm awaiting delivery of the R7; I do hope the R7 will perform better or equally at minimum to my V1 Gen1 as many test have shown.

It's currently out of stock. You can't buy from V1 right now until it's back in stock. I only recommend buying from V1's website directly, since Mike Valentine does not sell his detectors elsewhere. If you buy from Amazon/eBay, it's from someone else and you never know what version they have and if it's new/used.

Valentine is apparently going through a redesign to keep up or perhaps pass the Uniden R7. I am guessing it may be many weeks? Should be quite the machine as the V1 has lasted and served me well for many years. I have 3 of them. One for every car and one got stolen and replaced.

My V1 would always fall off with those stupid suction cups too. I fixed that by putting saliva on them when I put it up. It would slide a bit at first but after that it wouldn't come off until I took it off.

Have both mounted plus a jammer system. Both seem to go off pretty much the same time but once in awhile the r7 will see it first but then other times v1 will. No matter what you have the cops can also trigger a gun. Your only solution is the jammer and slowing down to speed mute the system let them get a reading at the speed limit. You want to let them get the reading so they will ignore you if they get no reading at all it spikes interests . In the city they use a low level radar system. This is called MultaRadar . The r1 will pick this up first every time. These are linked to a system and are generally mounted under a bridge or overpass, on traffic lights with red light cams. As far as i know the R7 is the only one that picks up dragon eye. Dragon eye is a new radar from china and only a jammer and r 7 will save you.

Although the cop was sitting in the dark with his lights off, and he had instant on radar. I read his police report. So not even sure if a detector would have helped.

....but, you are running the V1 in a filtered mode - “little “l”.” Was the R7 filtered down on K BAND, too? Run the V1 custom swept in Euro mode. I have an R3 and a custom swept V1. They are nearly identical in everyday applications.

Not a good review considering the sign your testing on is a K Band POP radar which only activates when a car is within a certain distance, therefore hence why it keeps going on and off with the signal picked up and not holding onto it

This is a good true story.and I bet money you never seen it before.in Winston salem nc the local police are driving two new 2020 dodge challengers. Did I say charger no I said challengers. All white 5.7 one has a solid police blue stripe on hood and the other one has a double blue stripe on hood.completely un marked.a few days ago on business i40 my waze said police ahead and went I got close one of the challengers had stopped a dark blue 6.3 challenger. The guy didn't have a detector on the windshield and obviously wasnt running waze.he had such of a bewildered look on his face that I slowed down to 25 mph instead of changing lanes.and while I was thinking of you a I blew my horn at him just in case he was going in shock .you probably would have looked the same but then again you would have waze running and the r7.i wished you would have been there.

Your timing with this video release is perfect. I’m debating on keeping my my tried and true V1 vs. the new comer. I was stopped the other day on a pulse RADAR that nabbed me. Luckily the trooper was cool and let me go. Continued on our 2,300 mile trip and my V1 worked like a champ but looking at the R7. When you say a pulse Radar do you mean laser? Essentially all radar pulses... but I have never heard if it referred to in this way. I have had my V1 for 13 years and only have one ticket with it. The sheriff got me with instant on K band. However, I slowed down before he got a lock. He pulled me over and asked how fast I was going... being smart I asked what he got me at (never tell them your speed they can write you the ticket for whatever you say). He got me at 4 mph over the speed limit, claimed it looked like I was going a lot faster than that, and wrote me a $36 ticket. Much better than what it would have been had I not had my V1.

@@iunianflorian247 Oh no... In my area if you set "A", you will experience a huge number - a huge number - of false bogey's. It will distract you to no end. I use "cap L" and turn off K-Band which law enforcement here isn't known to use. I would enable all bands traveling into unknown areas though. I find the "small L" logic mode and "cap L" advanced logic mode work well. Laser sucks and is good only to get your story rehearsed. Might be worth a try to implement custom sweeps. All settings here pertain to V1 Gen 1. I have no idea and no desire to have the Gen 2 version as I do not like the external design.

For highway driving specifically, in many locations all radar detectors have become dead! Proliferation of Instant On radars render detectors useless. They have all become essentially toys, expensive toys, that all. For city driving, yes they can still be valuable, but for highway they've become obsolete. They juzst cannot detect Instant On fast enough for one to slow down. In my location, Northern California, its just impossible to find a CHP officer using anything else but Lidar or Instant On radar.

@@ciphergalm1174 There are numerous cameras and traffic monitoring devices/stations. Red-light camera warning is a common feature in modern detectors. It is something completely worthless in my opinion. Who in his right mind disobeys red lights? Those who do are criminals and shoul go to jail not be driving with red-light camera detectors! Where one needs a radar detector most is on the highway where its easy to breach the speed limit. Cops have very sophisticated radars nowadays, ...they can be turned on in an instant (!) and take a reading in a second or less. They are called Instant-On radar, no radar detector can give sufficient time warning. Every police department is beginning to use these. Of course there is also Laser called LIDAR. No laser detector can defeat these either. Radar detectors have essentially become obsolete. Of course manufacturers will not admit that.

@@ciphergalm1174 Waze wont help much when the troopers car moves around. When I lived behind the Iron Curtain it was common practice to alert oncoming traffic to the presence of a radar speed trap (old fashion big radar unit placed on tripod at the side of the road) or any police car parked on the side of the road. We would just blink the high beams twice. A customary thank you for the warning consisted of a single re-blink. People opposed revenue generating efforts by the police. But that was in a totalitarian state, ...traffic on the roads was fairly light. There were not highways divided in the middle, mainly two lane type roads. Also a different, far less individualistic race than the Anlo-saxon.
