Meteora Greece, Six Incredible Monasteries (70 min. in 4K)

During my one week visit in Meteora, I explored all six monasteries. I dedicated one day to each monastery. One day a week, each of the monasteries is closed for tourists, so you need to find out before planning your visit. Meteora is not only amazing monasteries but also beautiful nature and the beautifully situated town of Kastraki and the larger Kalambaka with restaurants and Greek food. There are many trails where you can walk, listen to the birds singing and admire this amazing place. During my stay I tried to record as much as possible to show the beauty of this place. Which of the monasteries makes the greatest impression on you, assess yourself.

Meteora is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The name means "lofty", "elevated", and is etymologically related to meteor
As early as the eleventh century, monks occupied the caverns of Meteora. However, monasteries were not built until the fourteenth century, when the monks sought somewhere to hide in the face of an increasing number of Turkish attacks on Greece. At this time, access to the top was via removable ladders or windlass. Nowadays, getting up there is a lot simpler due to steps being carved into the rock during the 1920 s. Of the 24 monasteries, only six (four of men, two of women) are still functioning, with each housing fewer than ten individuals.
Access to the monasteries was originally (and deliberately) difficult, requiring either long ladders latched together or large nets used to haul up both goods and people.
Until the seventeenth century, the primary means of conveying goods and people from these eyries was by means of baskets and ropes.
During World War II the site was bombed. Many art treasures were stolen.

I love every minute of the amazing video. I felt close to God. Thank you so much. I visited Meteora in the mid sixties. I stayed in Kalambaka which was a small village then. There are a lot of antiquates inside the monasteries. I often wondered how did they transferred the building materials to build those amazing buildings. The music was also very fitting. I was at the beginning of May and this is the best time in my opinion. July and August are very hot and crowded with tourists. September and October are also good times but the visibility is not as good as in spring

@@Sriwijaya888 I chose all of them in which normal life goes on and have been restored, available for sightseeing. The rest are ruins or uninhabited. There used to be 24 monasteries, but many of them have been destroyed. When you look around here, you can see some remains. Sometimes it's just small fragments of walls.

If you go back again could you please take a lot less of the drone footage and show much more of the getting to the buildings, getting into the buildings and of course all through the insides and grounds of each monastery. To be completely honest with you it’s hard to watch the same drone footage over and over again of the exact same stuff. Seeing an aerial shot of the monastery and grounds once is plenty. It’s also very nice when you don’t have to play the music. Hearing the sounds of the environment especially the people & the sweet birds is sooo much better. The quality of the footage was fantastically clear. I don’t want you to take any of this personal but as constructive criticism. I know as someone who is a photographer & sometimes maker of videos I appreciate people telling me the truth so I can do a better job next time. You clearly have skills so I imagine that you can make great videos and I’ll one of your followers watching them. Thank you

First of all, thank you very much for your honest and extensive comment. I always read all comments with great respect. That was my plan to show as much as possible inside and outside. I recorded much more material in the interiors of monasteries, but unfortunately not everything could be used due to the low light conditions there. Photo equipment is getting better and more mobile, but anyway when you traveling you often have to compromise between mobility and video quality. I didn't want to spoil the whole video with poor quality material. Almost all the material recorded with camera is with good quality sound so I left it like this to show the real atmosphere of this place. Music is mostly with the shots from the drone for obvious reasons. However, not everything you or I like is good for the majority. I have movies only with natural sound, but there are also comments that it would be better to watch with matching music. You will never fit with everyone becouse people are diferent and not everyone like the same. I thought here is a good balance between music and sound of nature and there is something for everyone. I also think that for most people it is more important to see the monasteries outside as they look special mainly due to its amazing location. The interiors of the monasteries have a similar atmosphere and look to other typical Greek monasteries, so it is not that surprising for someone who has seen it already. All the sounds of nature that I used here come from this place, so if someone watch this movie, I think he will get to know the real atmosphere of this place. Anyways, I promise to focus more on the interiors and then bring the right gear with me if I decide to visit this beautiful place again. I would also like to spend more time on the trails there becouse it is an amazing experience too. Thank you for your attention. I hope you will post comments on my others videos sometime.
