Radeon RX 580 doesn't work diagnostic of a graphic card

Here is diagnostic process on a short to the chip. That's the way how you can straight and forward say chip (gpu) is out and needs to be replaced.

The fans on my GPU start then stop after a few seconds. It still shows display on my monitor though. Any ideas? Edit: that's how it's supposed to be. I'm just dumb. It turns on the fans when it needs them.

With the card 580 it seems the core is robust enough to take 12v into the core if a small enough inclusion of the voltage by only one phase into the core. Unfortunately this is not the case after 580 because of further chip refinement of smaller scale components producing a dead core like with Radeon64 chipsets making it less robust unable to handle any inadvertant 12v by direct mosfet failure in the closed mode. Thus mosfets must be designed to fail open and should be immediately implemented.

Hi Elitech. I subscribed straight away when I found your vids obviously you have loads of knowledge. I have more than basic knowledge of electronics but have a gpu with strang issue and wondered what you think. Msi rx580 8gb oc. The card has no shorts and is recognised by pc. But the bios wont program and clock speeds show zero. I assume the clock gererator power is not working and wondered if this is also the power for bios chip? The bios doesn't show or hold a PN. What do you think? It's a hardware issue but struggling to narrow this one down?

I would have liked to have gotten close ups of what pins and how to identify each of the items you were checking. I have a board that is not showing any thing or stripes on the screen after taking it out of the case with the power cord off but connected. I have no way to know what to check or were. Had you discribed and shown close ups would have been helpful. Just a thought maybe for a future video. Thanks for the video.

Try to keep your card and its components as cool as possible. The cooler the electronic parts, the higher the likelihood of a well aging piece of hardware. Apply quality thermal paste after warrenty period (or even before, if you're not afraid to void it), make sure you have decent airflow in your case and that your card is within it, remove dust when it becomes visible, keep an eye on your GPU temps under load (use MSI Afterburner tool with OSD enabled) Everything below 80°C is OK and below 70°C good - but the lower the better, of course. Try to create a custom fan curve if temps are getting worrisome, in order to trade cooling performance for noise if you can bear it. That's pretty much all the average end-customer like you and me can do.

I have a broken Sapphire Nitro+ RX 580 8GB. I took it to get fixed but they failed. I told them there was a short but they disagreed. Yesterday I picked up a Multimeter and a sodering iron station. I found 2 dead SMD resistors ? I think that's what they are called. I never did anything like this before, but thanks to you Russian guys being the only ones on youtube fixing these, I'm trying and I feel like I'm making progress. I need to order some parts and look into getting some tools to remove the resistors. I need to know these skills cause I have 26 GPU'S working 24/7

I realize this is a 3-year old video, but I have an XFX RX580 GTS 8gb card that is chip for chip identical to that card. I bought it non-working and I am trying to fix it. I discovered it is missing a small chip Q4614. It is supposed to be sitting next to Q4615 and directly below the 1R0 cube. Q4615 appears to be a MOSFET SM4373NA. Nearby Q4613 appears to be a SM4377. Could you tell me what the missing chip Q4614 should be? OK. I found it on a board breakdown video. Both Q4614 and Q4615 are SM4373NA.

Hi Eli, awesome video. I've subscribed already. I have a Sapphire Pulse RX580 8GB. When I hook it up to my PC and power up, the card isn't detected and the fans don't spin at all. I have tried sending it to a local shop and they mentioned something about replacing the "power controller" and it seems to blow out after replacing. Does this mean my GPU is already dead? Do you have a spare RX580 GPU for sale?

Hi Eli! I have the same nitro as the video but I'm measuring 0.6 Ohms in the GPU (measuring power choke and ground) and 0.4omhs in the capacitors leads. The graphics card works but when you put heavy loads the clocks go down. Can be the capacitors of the pwm phases the cultrip of the problem? This card was used for minning. Thank you!

if u need to find shorted/heating component use isoprophyl alcohol or gasoline. offcourse thermocam is best but it is expencive

Nice video man! I have a question. I have GTX 1070 which works just fine in lets say bios screen and for a short time in Windows, but then picture on the monitor get garbled and it turns off and on. After a minute I get the blue screen of death and restart. Now I am waiting for a new multimeter and can't do nothing, but in the meantime I'dd like to ask you where would you start looking for the problem? Also any budget microscope to recommend?

Where do you find the restiances and voltages of the cards? Is there a place to get them? Wondering because I have a xfx rx 580 with the same pcb that wont emit any heat or have fans spin. I measured the chip resistance and it seems to be fine but (not sure if I am measuring the right thing) but the memory controler has a resistance of 250 ohms.

Have you ever used the Ch341-A tool to reprogram the bios chip manually? I have an Rx 580 XFX dual bios card that was flashed with the wrong memory and is bricked. It wont boot when hooked in to any pc. its not recognized. please any help would be great

I have a question about Asus RX 580 4gb VRM, I found 1 Mosfet was shorted so I took it out properly and the short on the 8 Pin power is gone using a multimeter, however, the 1st 3 pins on the PCIe connector shows extremely low resistance around 160-170 ohms only, and the pad of the shorted mosfet is still shorted, reason why I did not place a new mosfet yet, where would you suggest for me to look further into? How should I trace where the short is originating from? Any help would be grreatly appreciated.

I have an rx 580 from Sapphire with a bit of artefacts, both in boot up screen and in windows. I guess it's the actual GPU chip? Could it be some other component that's dead? Any advice on how to diagnose it? I'm thinking about giving it a go with my hot air station and pray for the best :D

Gugabyte rx 570 8gb. Can play movies, can run adrenalin stress test here i can see temps can go to ~65°c in load and 37-43°c at no load, games runs upto menu but upon loading to play it stuck af some point and graphics ram cannot load beyond 1gb. Did ddu from 21.5.2 to 21.5.1 to 20.4.1 still same problem. Could you help trobleshoot

hey man, I know this is old video. my Nitro RX 580 couldn't start the fans, fans only spins for 1-2 seconds when booting then dies. it's not idle then it switched to 0 rpm (I know that feature), it's not spinning at all, even when GPU runs at 100%, and turning hot at max temp 85C, fans still not spinning, stays lazy at 0 rpm, but weirdly fans % aren't 0. it's not the fan, I check to put my fans to other GPU with same model, it works. I tried BIOS flash provided on techpowerup and still not solving anything. tried to change fans cable still didn't work, even whole fans shroud changed still didn't work. it only works barely moving 1-2 seconds after a cold boot. how to check or repair this problem, is it broken fan chip controller? where is it? i have spare Nitro RX 580 which can spins its fans, thought it can be swapped on some components. I don't use that spare RX 580 because it sometimes crash at boot, to random colors, but the fans situation are okay.

I have a Asus Dual RX580 that stopped working the other day. It still shows in the device manger but has code 43. I also noted that the GPU gets hot while the card is doing nothing. I can still access the card with ATIFlash and reading and writing to bios appears to work fine. Is the GPU chip itself dead or shorted causing it to get hot? Can the card still be fixed or is it beyond repair?

Hi Eli! I have a Sapphire RX580 SE 8GB Nitro that had exactly the same problem like this, so i have replaced the BGA with a working one, now i have around 17 Ohms on that rail, the other rails are good too, everything looks good but the card is doing the same (tried both bioses), lights up, but fans are not spinning, atiflash not see dedicated AMD card. Maybe something is wrong with the fan controlling too (because i think these cards have a protection that prevents themselves to powering on if fan controlling is failing)? Any advices?

were you talking about a brand new or used GPU? I just recognized that some of my Polaris GPUs were detected on Win7 but not on Win10, so I either just patched them or bios modded them. After that, plugging them directly to the board as 2nd discrete GPU, they were either detected and ran good or just needed to be patched because of error 'code 43'. I hope this helps you somehow and that this recommendation didn't come way too late ^^ Without an APU / CPU with integrated graphic chip it's pretty hard to get any system feedback for your GPU and because I'm still waiting for mine to arrive, I just tried it that way, with 1 working discrete GPU connected via Riser card and then checked the faulty cards one by one

Though stable in desktop mode (watching movies and browsing the web) it's totally fine, but the second I try load up a game, the game crashes. I've tested multiple game and the same thing happens every time. I own a RX 580 8gb sapphire nitro + special edition, the card boots up and installed with the latest drivers too but from a past few days I've noticed the RGB has stopped working and the fans are not spinning under heavy load too. Same card as mine, try using msi afterburner to increase fan speed if it work, and also change thermal paste and thermal pad if u never change it before, mine getting hot too before, but don't have fan speed problem..i just change thermal paste and pad, boom!! it stay under 70c after that.. :)

I have an rx 570, had this same problem. Turns out like someone has said, it needed a display port monitor. Once the drivers are loaded it should display through hdmi or display port. However, even with drivers,it won’t show the bios screen, it will only display once windows 10 loads up. The only way it will show the bios is with a dp monitor. Dp to hdmi converter won’t work either.

Mon Jei ring it up to confirm a short. Then yes if it looks bad then most likely it’s burnt out. Remove it and see any differences. 2 min of work
