Long story short; -Woman goes on long bike trip through wilderness to beat time record. -Her wife follows along in a car and takes pictures and talks to her several times a day. -Guy in charge of record keeping says it doesn't count because rules specifically state you can't have a loved on check on you. -Woman and wife are upset that she wasn't allowed to ignore that rule because she thinks it's not a good rule. -Scientist agrees that not feeling alone can SOMETIMES give you a physical advantage for strenuous activities. -Woman will be doing bike racing again without her wife checking in on her.

I was really enjoying this story, hearing about how it is completely different from tour de france in spectators and support, and putting myself in their shoes and going through immensely arduous journey completely alone and self sufficient. Until I was very confused hearing they had loved ones checking in on them constantly, which to me completely defeated all of the intensity in listening. Emotional and moral support, like a giant safety net. I absolutely acknowledge the difficulty in completion and do not discredit that aspect, tremendously well done, but damn if it isn't a different sport at that point. I'm entirely on the organizers side even before I heard there was a rule about it. Also, false equivalence of the podcast presenter joining a very intense sport as a untrained amateur, also not alone, and saying it is hard. Yes of course it is.

Why do we have rules? As an example...and this is about law....stealing is unlawful. Yet, if my children are starving...I will steal food for them....knowing that if I got caught. I would have to pay for breaking the law even though the greater good is feeding my children. That's a lady was given a friendly warning....and she chose to break the rules. If you want to race a contest by your own rules. Create your own contest.

Youre imagining things, part of a mass hallucination, we dont have rules/laws...... All laws are there only for those stupid enough to believe in, and follow them....all government is terrorism, even democracy, where one group, violently forces its fictional beliefs on non believers. If these beliefs were true, they would apply weather you believe or not, weather you like them or not, with out the force of violence. Terrorism cant dictate what is or not reality, no matter how violent someone gets, not even if they name their beliefs "The Law". Break any and all laws, its your right, its called freedom, we have no obligation to be victims, no exception.

Speedrunning community in videogames often have special categories such as glitchless etc. If lael doesn't like the rules she should create her own category.

Knowingly breaks existing rules, is given a special opportunity to stop but refuses, cries to have them retroactively changed, then accuses the director of being anti-feminist. Yes, what an inspiration for queer female athletes, iconic 🤦‍♂️

There were rules to the competition and not only did she break them but she was warned that she would be disqualified if she continued what she was doing..... thats bs man i fully agree with her DQ. Who does she think she is that she can just change the rules to what ever you want. The emotional support is def an advantage.

i would assume most listeners are mature enough to handle graphic language but it's still proper to have a warning. not sure why this is so "ridiculous" to you. and they absolutely should not censor their work.
