Just wanted to say thank you for your videos. Just watched one from 11 years ago, fixed my thermostatic valve that wasnt working on Christmas Day. Now nice and toasty on Boxing Day morning now I've had a chance to have a look at it. Best plumbing tips on KZbin by absolute miles. Merry Christmas

Thanks Al. I've had one of those keys for at least 20 years, never new what the hole in the end was for. Maybe I'll give it a go one day.

Thanks for the vid. I've got the problem in last example with the non-replaceable rounded off valve. My idea is to get a valve key. fill the end with Jeld Weld epoxy push it over the valve nipple, leave to cure. So the valve key is permanently attached for future use. Worth a try before replacing a rad.
@dereton33Ай бұрын
Certainly is. Have a great Christmas.
@user2172-i8zАй бұрын
Revision to the earlier suggestion. I have visions of glueing the rad key in and nothing moving😁 Mark II ... cut the head off a dome/pin/cap head screw. Jeld weld it to the rounded off bleed valve. Once it cures you have a cheap, permanent fix.

So nice to see my radiators in a video all painted up and rusty innards' to match. Didnt know you could get a special tool to get those plugs out , ill look for one of those . The old leftie loosy righty tighty technique in use I see . You do have a bit of sludge there , I use a small version of Adey magnetite collector on mine (horizontal version) I didnt have room for the normal large one. I empty it once every 6 months into the wash basin and clean it with the fairy liquid.

Ive got a couple of double radiators that have the valve in a recess on the rear side. Less than 10yrs old and they are rounded off. Just got some Easi Bleed inserts. They are self Drilling. Do look a little bit ugly but as we have Rad covers it does not matter. Fit in just seconds and sorted !.
@TheSaabClinicUKАй бұрын
I see you actually had a picture of one just at the end. You can do the rear panel as well if you use a socket extension on your drill. I let them Self drill and as soon as they go through, i then stop and swap to a 8mm spanner and just nip it up until the rubber washer starts to compress. Then stop, job done.

Very useful, thanks. I am a bit confused, though. You started by showing the end of a radiator and said that a lot of people don't realised that you can remove the whole plug. Later in the video, you showed the same radiator and said that the only cure was to drill out the nipple. Have I missed something?
@EeezyNoowАй бұрын
I wondered about that too.

@johnsaunders1945Ай бұрын
@@dereton33 I think that you may have skipped that bit 😆
@steve26553Ай бұрын
Surely no one should be drilling out bits of the radiator due to the small metal shards from the drilling process going into the radiator. These will get flushed back to the boiler and possibly cause damage. A magnetic filter won't help if the drill shards are brass. Please correct me if I'm wrong about this but I would never do it.

Where can I buy the old type valve as rounded off ?? Or will the new type fit ??
@dereton33Ай бұрын
Amazon sell them.

Two of my myson rad bleed nipples have sheered off, and its the type where the nipple just screwed into the rad. So far hot away with not doing anything, have had to drain the system down, but just locked off these two radiators.

Good idea.

Managed to remove a rusted nipple on the last type of rad by hammering a small socket on it

the head snapped off on my one, leaving just the screw inside with no hope of removing it... buying a whole new radiator seems to be my only option.
@roybatty2030Ай бұрын
I’ve got the same problem. I will drill a small hole in the broken off bleed nipple and try to remove it with a stud extractor of a left hand drill bit (or drill out the nipple and rethread the hole with a tap). Then find a new nipple with the right thread (or if not, use a bolt with ptfe, as suggested). Last resort will be to blank off the hole and install an easy bleed or just replace the rad!
