@@torinriley7569 Game Freak spreads themselves all too thin in the pursuit of money. And people keep making excuses for them: >They have to model 1000+ Pokemon for every game! No they don't, as that is Creatures' department. You know, the other guys who own 1/3rd of the Pokemon IP. Plus, the models are reused since XY, AND it's only around 100 or so because of the reused older models. >Nintendo forces them to release a game every year! The hell they do. Multiple people in high positions from companies such as Platinumgames, Capcom, Bandai Namco, and so on and so forth have stated in interviews and Q&As that Nintendo was one of the easiest and lax companies they had to do work for. The only one forcing Game Freak to continously push out games is Game Freak themselves >The Switch is weak! Yes, it is, but smaller teams with way less popular IPs managed to make open world games for the Switch that look substantially better. Honestly, I'd be here all day if I had to refute every point made by these droolin' addicts. Yes, I'm calling them addicts because that's what they are. They NEED their Pokemon fix annually, which is why they continue to excuse the state of the modern games. If they don't, they really don't know what to do with themsevles. How ironic, because outside of Go, most of them steer far away from the spinoffs. Pokemon needs more spinoff games in general. Works marvelously for Mario where they pad the gap between releases of main Mario (the 2D and 3D platformers) with tons of spinoffs.

That's an interesting point about Nemona... Game Freak went out and created a rival who handicaps herself for us because she loves battling so much... and in the same process, _stops us as a player from doing the same thing,_ by taking away our Set setting and enforcing Exp. All.
@darcidious995 ай бұрын
At least optional trainers helps a fair bit, doing hardcore nuzlockes its easy to stay on level just cause you can use exp candies to micromanage your exp. Not saying those things shouldn't come back cause it's horseshit that they're not in my $60 game, but not having to fight trainers that give bonux exp multipliers at least lessens the struggle for difficulty management IMO.
@Meteorite_Shower5 ай бұрын
@@darcidious99 True, but that doesn't help non-hardcore playthroughs for people like me, who like to scour every corner of the area before moving on. By the time I'm fighting a Gym Leader/Team Star/Titan mon, it's a mindless experience, because even the Magikarp I've been lugging around and _never_ touched is now a Gyarados. Optional trainers was a great move. Now can I have back my ability to turn off the optional Exp. All as well? Please, I just want to feel like I can _lose,_ without having to personally enforce hardcore rules on my first playthrough. ...I'm sorry, I don't usually rant, I'm just... There's no reason to _lock_ the game into Baby Mode, and over the years it's getting to me.
@zjzr085 ай бұрын
I guess even the boundaries of the world wasn't enough for Nemona and forced the mechanics to change hehe...but seriously I'm not sure why remove pretty easy options or even improve on them (i.e. make Exp Share customizable to a number of Pokemon and make Shift possible but have your opponent hide the Pokemon they're choosing).
@HS-mn6jc4 ай бұрын
@@Meteorite_Shower I'm with you. When I play Pokemon games I *prefer* to fight every trainer I see, not only because I like 100%ing the game (well, in every way other than the Pokedex because of bullshit like version exclusives) but also because I want to get my money's worth out of the game. If I avoided every trainer I saw then I'd be skipping like 50% of the core gameplay!! I shouldn't have to sacrifice interacting with one of the core game mechanics (battling) just so I'm not completely fucking steamrolling the entire experience and never facing any kind of challenge whatsoever. I think it's great for there to be an option for novice players to skip battles when they want to and not be horribly underleveled, still enjoying the experience for themselves. But when that becomes the ONLY option, and battling because it's your favorite thing to do in the game becomes an active DETRIMENT to you because your level curve is exponentially steeper than the world around you... that's just bad game design. Adding on the inability to play Set vs Switch and it's clear GameFreak wants to make the games as easy as humanly possible and not allow experienced players any kind of challenge so that there's zero chance a potential new fan to the series faces any kind of tribulations and is potentially turned away from buying future titles. It's fucking ridiculous.

I remember watching your videos a long time ago and while I enjoyed them, I always found that the humor of them was either a little out of place or that they seem to put the video on pause it felt like. But man, This video and all the more recent ones you've been going have been genuinely fantastic. The flow is a lot smoother, the jokes land way better and have me physically laughing and smiling from just how well they're done. Mad kudos man, I'll be sure to keep checking out whenever a new video pops by as you've definitely improved a bunch.

This game is a paradox to me, because while I had way more fun with it than say Shield, which was boring as sin, and Arceus, which devolved into mindless catching, Violet is just so... generic. None of the towns really stand out, their all pretty much the same. For as unengaging as Shield was, at least it had interesting locations i.e the glowing fairy mushroom forest, the dragon castle city, the giant pokemon pictograph. Violet doesn't have any of that. There are no unique biomes, its all just generic open world environments, besides the crystal area at the end. On top of that, they really failed at making it Pokemon's Spain/Portugal in the same way that Galar and Alola were Pokemon's UK and Hawai'i. The stories themselves are fine, but it suffers from the Octopath problem of not being connected. I'll use Team Star for example. If I ignore a Star Base near a town and go for a gym instead, I should get hassled by Star members. If I take out the base first, it should remove the local Star members. On the subject of those stories, the Star and Titan branches both suffer heavily from repetition. Star being nothing but autobattles+boss fight was disappointing and really makes me miss dungeons. The titan fights aren't too bad but I wish they had done something like a Shadow of the Colossus-lite and make the player solve a puzzle to make them vulnerable.
@darcidious995 ай бұрын
I'm still upset that the titans weren't boss battles in the vein of legends arceus. Yeah those bosses were simple, but it was still so much more fun and exciting than pokemon has been since I was a kid. I was so excited to see how titans would build on the noble pokemon bosses... And it turns out, there's nothing unique to them at all, they are JUST normal pokemon but they're beeg. Tbf I think the stories themselves were all really great when considering only the story and not the gameplay done to tell those stories. Boy who just wants his only companion to live which recontextualizes his rough and gruff nature, that's great. Bullying leading to the bullied turning into revenge seeking monsters and a whole cover up conspiracy behind it? That's the best story an evil team has had since platinum that's some good stuff. Even Nemona's whole "I just want someone to fight who's actually on my level" angle is amazing. But then the gameplay behind all of them is just more boring turn based battles that you one shot and move on. Or for team star you just mash the R button cause autobattling is a fun and totally not boring thing to force the player to do 30 whole times, 5 times in the game. I just wish these amazing stories being told could be conveyed through gameplay that makes me even sort of interested. As it is, I'm just mashing A brainlessly and all of a sudden this kid's parent was a neglectful piece of shit that cared more for a pokemon than their own child and thus sacrificed her(him)self for the pokemon's safety... That's such a unique and great story for pokemon, I just wished that the gameplay was representative of the journey I was supposed to have.
@Yipper645 ай бұрын
I think it just goes to show that the core fundamentals are what makes a pokemon game fun, and this game technically achieves that while failing in many areas. As in not every battle is a complete cakewalk with minimal effort.
@Loner0985 ай бұрын
The story in Scarlet & Violet is...much more flawed than people thought. While I might agree the story brings up some concepts better than Sword & Shield, the overall narrative STILL feels lazy due to so many plot holes than swiss cheese in said narrative. For example (credited to AcousticHarmonia): 1. Why does Arven want the help of the trainer he despises? 2. Why does Nemona fully expect you as a trainer who's never had a Pokemon before to rise to the challenge of proving a worthy opponent for her? 3. Why does Penny want your help to take down Team Star instead of asking someone like Nemona or taking any other possible solution here? 4. What's the point of a school that just tells you to screw off? 5. How does nobody at the school seem to have any idea what went down with Team Star 18 months prior to the story? 6. Why is Team Star so dead-set in their rules that they're not willing to disband even if their leader tells them to, but are willing to completely throw that out the window if the director of the school they don't even go to gives them an order? 7. Why does Herba Mystica have such crazy variance of effects, always doing the one exact thing it needs to? 8. Why is the Professor fixated on being the center of attention, taking credit for things they never did, and frequently interrupting Arven? 9. Why did the other Professor leave? 10. Why did the Professor want to bring pokemon out of time to coexist here? Out of a genuine belief that'd be the best world? 11. Why didn't the Professor call the mean Koraidon/Miraidon back to its pokeball, or give it the order to not be so damn territorial since it apparently listens to whatever orders they give? Why did they instead have to throw themselves in front of an attack just to save your Koraidon/Miraidon? 12. Why is the other Koraidon/Miraidon so territorial over this world that isn't even its own? 13. What happened after your Koraidon/Miraidon was shielded from the attack? What was stopping the other Koraidon/Miraidon from immediately acting again since its mentality doesn't seem to have changed at all? 14. Why does the Paradox Donphan who escapes Area Zero do absolutely nothing? 14.5. Why is Larry the only genuinely great character? 15. Why don't any Paradox Pokemon seem to care that they've been wrested from their home into a completely different world? 16. Why does the AI Professor stick around to make you fight to stop the time machine instead of just leaving? Why not leave Area Zero, which would have them deactivated, so we can disable the time machine? 17. Why is the key to disabling the time machine the AI Professor? Something that isn't even a direct part of the machine itself, being an additional helper the original Professor created, why wouldn't the most vital part of the machine be something directly connected? You'd think if the Professor was fixated on keeping the machine running no matter what, the most vital part would be directly connected, rather than something running off a wireless connection, and which can make a conscious decision to deactivate the machine. 18. Why did the AI Professor just keep the other Koraidon/Miraidon's pokeball in her pocket? Couldn't she have left it upstairs, preventing the final battle? 19. Why does the AI Professor need to go to travel through time to sacrifice themselves? Why couldn't they just leave Area Zero, being deactivated? Plus, then the heroes could just take some of the crystals serve to keep them running out of Area Zero as and then Arven would've gotten his parent back.

I thought Octopath 2’s stories were connected well enough for a game that has to account for being able to have any party members at any time… not gonna defend 1 though.
@okagron4 ай бұрын
@@Loner098 It feels like pokemon fans say the story is good because there's really nothing else to praise. The gameplay? It's the same damn gameplay since 1996. The new battle gimmick? The one that completely shatters balance because many pokemon were balanced around their typing, but the new mechanic allows them to circuvent whatever weaknesses their type combo brings. The amount of content? There's nothing to do outside of the main story, even the Battle Tower is gone. The music? You mean that thing you can listen to outside of the game, meaning you don't have to buy the game to experience it? So they fall back to the story to claim that the game did anything well, and that means ignoring anything that can be used to argue that story isn't actually very good either.

This is my second game I have completed the Pokédex in, the first being ultra moon, and I gotta agree. Outside of one hidden cave in area zero and the vaults for the ruinous Pokémon, there is nothing to find. I really hope Legends Z-A and the Gen 10 game move away from the open world a bit and return to a more traditional region with routes.
@kakalukio5 ай бұрын
Honestly it's an excellent example of why open-world doesn't benefit certain types of games. Sometimes it's better to just work with neatly defined levels/progression/obstacles/etc. Anyways, still doesn't excuse the abysmall technical performance, or some of the questionable decision like not being able to turn of the EXP share. Did you know it ruins your EV training? Cuz that was a fun surprise the first time I tried to make a proper team.

Best Pokemon game cases IMO, the Ultra games. Specifically because if you put the two box arts next to each other, it creates the face of Ultra Necrozma in the center

I still maintain that It's not Sprigatito's eyes that are off, it's the nose just the nose being off centre. It's just a very unclear attempt at showing Sprigatito has a very small muzzle but because people typically compare the eyes to the nose and not the other way around resulting in it looking like the eyes are off to most people.

There are no words to describe this game. It's the single most most fun I've ever had playing Pokemon, and it's objectively an awful, buggy, unfinished mess. It's one of my favorite Switch games, while also being one that I can NEVER recommend to anyone in good faith. It is a game that I love to death, and also a game I know is a horrible embaressment, an immovable black stain on the legacy of the company making it. I agree with you, this game does think I'm stupid, and my reaction to it proves that I guess I am stupid. This whole conundrum has rocked me to my core and caused me to question everything I know about both gaming and myself.
