Hi Robbie, thanks for flagging all of that up!! 😁 Great job as always. Yes whilst on board ships the flags seem to appear and disappear and it's only later that one realises that something is different! It all happens flawlessly when you least expect it. Rarely have I ever seen running flags being rigged although I do recall seeing the decorative editions being elevated a couple of times. Usually raised very early in the mornings or lowered at dusk. There were the odd exceptions. Even a Christmas tree appeared on the top of one funnel array! The flags in use for mid crossing does make life a tad easier. Olympic water intake grills now fitted. Keep cool! Regards JH 😉⚓

See what you did there! I was wondering if you had any knowledge of these things from your travels. From my research it sounds like there wasn’t really a hard and fast rule… so probably anything goes really. Good to hear Olympic is going strong! All the best, Rob

@@TheModelBoatGuy Three flags normally flown these days. Company flag, country of ship. The flag of country being visited when arriving or leaving the port. I think it's pretty much a tradition carried on from the early days. Yes all good here, working on forward hatches and rudder anodes! Keep cool! Regards JH 😉⚓

Utterly stunning and beautiful Rob, that tactic of using tin foil for the flags to sit on is a tactic I use all the time on my ships. You can get cotton cloth flags on the Internet but it's cheaper and in my honest opinion.. more creative and free to use the tin foil to sandwich the flag at the base, I love the tactic.. always works for me and I find it very liberating. I have a full size Royal Navy reserve flag hanging in my bedroom, one of my favs and the Titanic and captain Smith is the reason. Looks utterly magnificent Rob, a true work of art you've done there mate 👍

Useful I’d say. If there was one set that got the lifeboats right and all the possible flags that would be grand

Great video again. As for flags in the army we did not fly flags at night, so my guess is even though this is a civilian ship by flying the blue ensign it would fly during the day and down at night.

Yes I would agree with that, I suspect wrt titanic and ocean liners of the time there may well have been no hard and fast rule, so captains made their own calls on this while at sea, and just observed the courtesies in port

Interesting idea, thou I would of use some sort of very tight canvas or cotton material, and then sprayed a few coats of acrylic sealer.

This might be a change I make tbh. Depends how well the flags stand up to use really.

Going off topic.. Will you be enclosing your model in a case? I have read, that in an enclosed space, paints and glues can give off chemicals that degrade the overall finish.. in the open, these chemicals simply disperse into the atmosphere.. What are your thoughts?
@TheModelBoatGuy Жыл бұрын
I had never heard that before, but could well believe it. I am putting the model in a case as dust and things will damage the model over time otherwise. There is a hole in my case though to allow gasses to escape. I admit this wasn’t due to paint vapours, but I was a bit worried about hydrogen build up from my batteries charging so I added a hole.

How did you attach the blue ensign to your model?

Spots of glue on the end of the flag!
