A tad of context from the movie is that bruno had the power to see the future and would often give bad prophecies causing him to be looked down on. Eventually he disappears and the green glass the main girl looks at at the end of the song was his last vision.

This song is a frickin BOP, all of the different parts, each individual having their own unique flair of singing, ahhh it's so good!! If you love this, you'll love Surface Pressure, it's an amazing song! If you want some more context on all of the characters, you should react to The Family Madrigal.

Disney had to submit a song for the Oscars before the movie even came out since the deadline was Nov. 15, and their policy is not to submit more than one song per movie to prevent vote splitting, so Lin-Manuel Miranda ended up choosing Dos Oruguitas because he felt it "best exemplified the spirit of the movie". There's no way he could've known that "Bruno" would be a chart-topping hit.

In case you have't seen the movie already, which i would recommend you do, Bruno later ventures the opinion that people who get supposedly negative prophecies tend to blame the messenger, even though he didn't actually cause anything to happen. By the way, layering different melodies, as in the second half of the song, is a Renaissance song-form called a 'madrigal'.. Lin-Manuel Miranda is playing a musical joke here, as the name of the movie family is Madrigal. The whole song is classic misdirection.
