I've had my XAV-AX5000 kit for a little over a week and finally had the time and impetus to install it yesterday. Thanks to this video, and the one you did for the TT, I was able to do the full install myself. Took around 4 hours of youtubing each step along with running the USB and mic wires where I wanted them to achieve what I wanted. I'm SO thankful for your kits and instructions! Nice meeting you, Christian. And thanks for the antenna adapter swap. BTW... I discovered that the Torx screws here have fixed washers that are too wide for the plastic bracket. I had to take out a Dremel and strip away some plastic in order to get the screws to fit. Not a big deal if you've got the tools handy, though. Still, worth mentioning. Btw, like an idiot, I'd forgotten that you supply two screws that don't have the attached washers, to use instead. :-/

Awesome video Enfig - very useful. I have an A3 Cabriolet 2008 in the UK. A few questions for you: - Is this a wireless CarPlay installation? If not, where is the USB port located? - Was it a software update that subsequently enabled the voice dial to work, or are extra cables/parts required vs the original installation? - What head unit would you recommend if you were to pick any on the market today? Would Pioneer SPH-DA130DAB or SPH-DA230DAB be good options?

I think this was a wireless CarPlay unit. I usually remove a cigarette lighter port and put a USB in there or I just leave the extension between the passenger seat and the center console if there are no better options. We do not sell the version without Voice dial any more. I usually recommend Pioneer radios. The customer brought this radio himself. Both those radios I recommend.

Hey man, great video with excellent explanation. Can you recommend a similar unit with wireless carplay and steering wheel controls because this Alpine one seems to be unavailable. Sorry not sure how I missed this. My current recommendation is the Pioneer AVH-W4500NEX but that is also on backorder. From what I heard all radios should be back in stock by mid to late august.

Very helpful video. Q: Do you have to connect the gps antenna that comes with the aftermarket radio (or even connect the one already installed in the car by manufacturer) to the new radio for Apple CarPlay to work? Or, could you just use the phone gps? Thanks in advance.

Depends on the radio. I know that some radios will not let you use wireless CarPlay unless you connect the antenna. But if your car does not have a GPS antenna up front you can always put the GPS antenna that came with the radio on the dashboard.

I don't even have an a3 but that looks beautiful. If you guys could make something for the Volvo then you could probably capitalize on an empty market. Blue power is literally the only known way to upgrade our steroes and it's unfortunate cause you have to order it from overseas

2006-2007 with Symphony or Concert uses different wires. But basically the same install. 2006-2007 with RNS-E is the same.

This is exactly what I need. I have a 2013 with the concert style head unit. I bought a Kenwood that is a double din and XM/Sirrus ready. I currently have Sirrus on the Concert Head Unit. So I was hope that I can still use the painted satellite antenna instead of installing the magnetic one that comes with the aftermarket. Isn't there a way to use the factory antenna? Did I hear you right when you said you produces all the hardware you are installing? If so I would like to purchase all that I need. I will try the web-site link you have. Great video ! I'm installing a pioneer DMH-1770NEX and from what I've found so far, the bypass gadgets don't work with the newest firmware. Thanks for any help!

I did get the appropriate harness, but it's a little different from what's in this video because I have a Kenwood DDX-9904S instead of the Alpine. Also, in this case, the A3 already had a double-DIN setup. My A3 came with a single DIN Audi Concert II. The connectors fit, except there is one left unattached. It's a red DIN module, and according to the Concert II diagram it is for Navigation. My system didn't have navigation installed, but I'm guessing there was an option for it. There is no color LCD screen, so I don't know how that would be managed (voice?). In any case, since navigation isn't being supplied by the OEM Audi system, I'm assuming I can just ignore this DIN plug.

Correct the 10 Pin connector on the back of the radio that goes up and down is never used with an aftermarket radio installation.. Its for the factory Bluetooth audio. It was also used for navigation audio from 1998-2001 before the cars has screens. The radio just has the pins in it. I think the TT may have has the same navigation until 2006. Since the TT radio are the same except for the face it may be whey that is there.

Finished my installation: i.postimg.cc/k5vrC4bW/Audi-A3-Kenwood-02.jpg I had a problem getting the head unit into the Enfig supplied metal cage. It's an extremely tight fit. Those clips screwed into the head unit sides made it impossible to get the head unit completely flush. So it sticks out about 2mm. It was so tight, I didn't even bother to push in the tabs, because I want to be able to remove the head unit in the future! Even still, it's in very, very tight. I'd have to take off the glove box to get enough leverage. Anyway, the jutting out isn't so bad that I'd bother trying out the Kenwood cage instead. I didn't like that one because the metal isn't as sturdy.

You just have to tighten the screws more. Most people do full sized radios. The width of the radios is the same.

Yes those screws. You have to go very tight. The metal on the clips usually has a small indentation in it from pressure.

A few friends told me that it had to do sith my amplifier not beiing activated, stating that this is a thing in the audi a3 8p. Built in GPS is not that popular anymore. CarPlay and android auto is the new technology. I recommend Sony and Pioneer radios.

If I want to connect the red wire (ignition key switch) and the yellow one (power from battery) to bypass the need of the car key, can I do it? Or it can cause some kind of short circuit?

It would not short but when you turn off a radio from the radio it is still on and will kill your battery.

I have an Audi A3 8P 2005 and was trying to install radio with similar adapter, but the problem I have is it only plays on 2nd (last) position of the ignition. Is there any way to plug it, so it also plays on 1st position of the ignition, so I don't have to light up everything to play it? There is no 12V anywhere in the fuse box that keeps 12V on 1st position of the ignition. Is this adapter that you're showing here allowing that?

That is a very odd problem. The adapter you have purchased is reading the incorrect signal on the cars data. Our adapter stays on until you pull out the key.

For that money I'm not sure you can get a touchscreen with CarPlay/Android auto. I always recommend sending a little more money and getting one with CarPlay/Android Auto. As far as radio model numbers the more you spend the more features you get. I recommend looking at their site as radio model numbers change every year.

As it has a shallow front rather than the standard 1cm trim thickness I was looking to see if the front of this facia kit would fit better over the front. So, i suppose I was after the inner thickness of the front plate that goes over the stereo in the hole for it .... if this makes sense 😬

@@Hello.ItsMe2024 Oh I see what you mean. A few years back screens started getting thinner radio manufactures started making some radios with shallow faces. The face is the part around the screen that sticks out of the front of the radio. its usually not as wide or as tall as the back of the radio (the chassis). Our faceplate has a 10MM lip where the face meets the kit. You can always shave down the back of the face. We do it here on installs.

Hi, have fitted your harness to my s3, only issue I'm having is that the volume will randomly get louder, or quieter, much like speed dependant volume, but not consistent. I've fitted a Nakamichi NA3605. When the vehicle is stationary the volume stays consistent. The stereo doesn't have a speed sensor function or speed dependant volume function. Any ideas??

Sounds like a loose steering wheel control wire. I would disconnect the steering wheel control wire and see if it goes away.

Hi Enfig. I bought a used Audi A3 and has an Alpine ILX-107. When I turn on the headlights the audio to the radio stops working, although the radio unit itself remains powered on. As soon as I switch off the headlights, the audio to the radio resumes. I would like to listen to music when driving at night when the headlights are on. Any advice/assistance is highly appreciated.

That sounds like a bad adapter to install the radio or its wired wrong. But it could be anything. Bad Ground, Bad Radio, Loose wire, Loose fuse. And that's without really thinking.

@@Enfig Thank you for your reply! Whoever installed the radio, used the car's orange wire to the radio's orange wire (illumination). The orange is not used on the Alpine ILX-107. As soon as I disconnected the orange wires, the radio worked when the lights were on! Hope this helps others faced with the same issue. That was the good news. A few days after I fixed the issue, a guy ran a red light and totaled my A3. 😞 I had a few nicks and scratches, but my 2008 A3 with 125K miles was a goner. I am still looking for another, but really difficult to find an A3 3.2 (6 cylinder) Quattro S-line, most are four bangers with turbo.

@@codefelon I'm not sure what you got going on there but Ground is always brown on Audi's and Black on Alpines. I' know you are trying to be helpful. Please do not listen to his post for troubleshooting because it sounds like someone has done some funky wiring in the car.

@@Enfig I agree with you. You are the pro. I was just looking to resolve the issue, as I drove nights with the deck not functioning when I turned on the parking/head lights. I read through the Audi A3 forum and someone posted with a similar issue and stated to disconnect the illumination wire (orange), as non professional installers tend to match the wire colors when installing and the orange wire on the Alpine is for illumination, which is not used. So I tried and disconnected the orange wire and taped off. Turned on the car and turned on the parking/head lights and the radio turn on and worked. But as you stated, do not follow my advice. I was simply stating what worked for me after reading from a forum, and like you said, I was just trying to be helpful. In addition, I was contemplating to take to Car Toys, but when I called to schedule an appointment, Car Toys gave me a quote of $150/hr with two hours minimum. Car Toys would have been my last resort should I not have been able to resolved after a week. Again, I am not an installer or electrician, but was simply providing the solution that worked that I read from a forum. Listen to Enfig, Enfig does this for a living. Thank you Enfig.

so..... i bought a head unit for my 2011 audi a3. It has a Bose sound system, i connected the Amp on connection...... But for some reason there is NO audio, i feel like there is still no power to the amp maybe the wire is wrong?! is there any other wire i could use to power the amp, or do a quick test some how?! -Edit: when i reconnect the original headunit all speakers work no problem, does this confirm that the amp doesnt get power with the aftermarket headunit?!

It’s Can Bus. There is no wire. It is done through computer signals.

Any chance you could show really quickly how to remove it? Mine is permenantly trying to load and I cannot do anything with it. I am thinking of disconnecting the power from the module and seeing if there is a manual reset or something. I think my memory card must be full but cannot access it as the eject button wont work until the stereo finishes loading.

I reccomend getting a harness from a junk yard and finding a factory wiring diagram. Go back to stock first.

If you have the factory radio and no sound our of the rear speakers check you fader. If the fader is set right then you either have a bad amp or blown speakers. But it could be anything. I have seen chipmunks chew through wires.

If I remember correctly there is a fuse in the glove box that removes power to the phone module and the Sirius module at the same time so that message no longer comes up.

I pulled out that fuse mobile phone/TV fuse and it disabled all steering wheel control functions. I have a 2010 A3. Any thoughts?

Not all Audi a3 come with rear speakers, sub and amp (maybe all facelift ones do, idk) and if the car doesn't come with rear speakers/sub/amp it does not have a harness for it.

@@Enfig It's 2004/12 2 door. It came with 1 din radio, but cannot verify which one, because when I bought it, alpine unit was already installed. very sad....a shame. if I get a new car, audi, kia, hyundai..... *impossible to replace the audio system*. I had Pioneer and of course the subwoofer box and..... goodbye :( a new car is designed to don't replace anything, just a few models of cars that I'm not interested or I don't like!!!

They are just harder to integrate. They do that on purpose so that when things break you go to the dealership. Technology will catch up. It always does.
