Thanks Richard, brilliant video about a peculiar (though working...) radio circuit. Kind of peculiar self oscillator mixer stage! They knew (in those days) exactly how they could manage a radio tube to its precise properties. And your explanation is very precise, many thanks, again. 9 may 2023.

Thanks Ko! This video was challenging to put together because I had to keep track of four items on each drawing. I hope this video can helps people understand this type of oscillator. Thanks again!

Excellent video. I like how you show the schematic and the scope at the same time. It really makes it easier to understand how it works. Thanks!

Hi Rick. This is an excellent demostration of how the local oscillator works. You illustrations are spot on and very easy to understand. Curious about your capacitance meter, I've had a few, but yours seems to be pretty steady. Has it worked well for you? Thanks for the info. :)

Thanks Doug! The capacitance meter has been very good. I bought it from Antique Electronics Supply. It is still accurate!

This is awesome, so a critical design aspect would be how fast that heater is heating up as thats whats effecting your oscilator frequency? Or perhaps you would just have an erroneous oscillator frequency until the tube was fully warmed up since the rate of field build up in the inductor when its first turned on will be based on the warm up rate. Once warmed up it will just oscolate back and forth. Is this correct? Then pin 6 is held positive so that when its the electrons time to go they GO (like a boost pump for the plate)?
@AllAmericanFiveRadio Жыл бұрын
The heater heats up the Cathode so that the Cathode can emit electrons, does not affect the frequency very much. The tank circuit is what determines the frequency.

@@AllAmericanFiveRadio I started to write another confused question and then I saw it, thank you for your help and patenice. I used to be a process engineer and went back for electrical, super excited for every little light bulb of intuition I build.

Excellent video! What I don’t understand is why, when the current from cathode to plate is at maximum, that the magnetic field in L2 starts to collapse. Why does it not maintain its field as long as that steady maximum current is flowing? Is a cycle of the oscillator tank circuit affecting the negativity of the cathode and control grid?
@AllAmericanFiveRadio9 ай бұрын
It is the Grid that controls the Tube. It is the voltage on the Grid that that runs out making the Tube start to turn off. This would make a good video. Why does a Tank Circuit oscillate.

Excellent video. This is the information I've been searching to find. Now I know the local oscillator can probed with an oscilloscope and verified. It looks like the amplitude was approximately 2.5 volts from peak to peak. I assume that was a 10:1 probe to prevent loading? Thanks!!
