this is definitely the best radio replacement video for the CRV on youtube. You can actually see every screw you take out, and you explain how to eject each harness clip. Very much appreciated!

As a 12 year navy electronics technician, always solder your wires for best connection then use electrical shrink tubes on the wires over the solder. Those will never corrode or come lose and still really cheap and easy. Car vibrations can and alot of times will make tape come loose and tied wires to come apart over time. Soldering is the only 100% way to guarentee that it won't.

Great video for removal. If you simply need to attain the serial number (for the stereo code), another simpler method is to remove the dash exhaust vent (where the clock or hazard light button is located). You need to remove the entire vent assembly, not just the clock. WIth a small screwdriver or putty knife, pry around the assembly until it all comes out. careful not to damage your dash. Once it's removed, you can see the top of the stereo. I took a small mirror (dental mirror) and reached back behind the stereo. the mirror and a flashlight gave me the visual necessary for attaining the factory stereo serial number. Once u have this, call the dealer or look it up online.

Hi Oscar, All the parts I used are listed below the video description. The radio comes with a wire harness that I connected to a sub-harness I bought, and that plugs into the vehicles wire harness. I used the factory radio brackets because the worked and it fir perfect, but I used the trim kit that cam with the double din kit to make everything look pretty 😊 Let me know if I can answer any other questions 👍

Hi Eddie, thanks for replying. Yes because we disconnected the battery, now the radio only displays Code Error. Honda customer service said I will need the serial # as well as proof of ownership (which I have) then they will be able to give me the factory radio code. Do you happen to know where else on the car I can find this serial # besides having to going through the tedious process of taking the whole thing apart??
@EddieCarrara1
@EddieCarrara1 10 жыл бұрын
Hi Clyde, no that is the only way I know of. You could try extracting it from the display depending on the year of the vehicle. Turn the radio off, hold the 1 & 6 preset buttons, while holing the buttons, turn the radio on, if applicable, the radio will flash the serial number in two different displays, like U6786 then L5463, discard the letters, and the 8 #'s will be the serial . Let me know if this works for you Clyde, thanks.

Hi Eddie Thanks so much for such a clear straightforward instruction about taking apart a Honda CRV radio dashboard. I needed to replace cables on an aux unit. I decided to brave it myself and I am happy to say I was successful! Just one question. While I was doing it a total of 3 small clips fell from the area I was working in. I have no idea what they were doing or where they were. I managed to put it all back together (another feat in itself) without these clips. I am guessing they were holding wires or something. Do you know what the clips might have been doing and could there be a problem that they fell out? Thank you, Copperwoman

I just stopped by to see what kind of fault i could find with this video.... Just when i was starting to relax you bust off with some shit that made adding a seatbelt in my office chair seem logical. If solder is corroding your wires stop using plumbing solder and that will solve that issue. The best most reliable* way is to solder and heat shrink each connection using quality solder and heat shrink wrap (silver solder and marine heat shrink wrap IMO) Given that not everyone can solder, crimping the wires together on a head unit is a acceptable alternative if done properly. I have never been a fan of the white crimp caps but they are cheap and commonly used. When using butt connectors the proper size is important and the proper tool to crimp them down is just as important. The buttconnectors that shrink down over the wire to provide a airtight connection are the best but they are a little pricey. The twist and tape is not seen at a acceptable practice throughout the industry and I wouldn't recommend it but if that's how you want to do it take you time, use quality tape. In hot climates it is more important because most tape is going to come undone over time (unless you go military practice on it) and one of the wires is not properly insulated that can be all takes to fry a headunit. Along with twisting and taping, T-Taps should also be avoided. They are known to cause problems. Also if you get a junky cheap head unit and it ends up working great good for you, but if it ends up working like a junky cheap head unit don’t be surprised. Also note that cheap doubledin headunits will often have a odd front that makes them not fit properly in a ISO Mount situation such as the Honda-CRV and many other Honda and Toyota's around those years

always use connectors. or crimp them. first it makes it easier to install a new stereo should you choose to do so down the road. much better connection. and unlike electrical tape. they don't loose their grip over time. even though the stereo is mounted in place. the wires are free floating. the tape will loose it's stick with all the current and heat generated from the stereo and the wires will let go from constant movement while driving. you can buy a 100 piece connector set for less than $5 from a hardware store. other than that. not a bad install video. just remember this is for an automatic. manuals are different as there the shift knob in the middle. not storage.

@@cr4sh711 yes. I typically only use solder if it's permanent. If it's something I see myself upgrading a few times. I like easy disconnect options. Hardest part is cutting the shrink wrap.

So basically you have to totally dismantle the car to get the radio out and find the code... think I'll visit the main dealer.

Hi Paul No, on most Honda Vehicles you can turn the key to the rum position, turn the radio off, hold the 1 & 6 preset buttons, and then turn the radio on. The radio will flash the serial number up on the screen, sometimes as two different numbers, sometimes all at once depending on the year of the vehicle. You can then call the Honda dealer or stop in and ask them to retrieve the code from the honda system or you can go here and do it yourself. radio-navicode.honda.com Let me know how you make out 👍

Man! Great video... until you went off the tracks about how you make wire connections! Just stick to the facts. Solder is not going to hurt or corrode the wires. Just stick to "its a pain in the ass". When you said that, well, I don't agree, but I can understand relating to your audience. Anywho...

Solder WILL NOT corrode the wires, EVER! Solder will permanently bond them together with the least amount of electrical resistance. Also, thats not a great way to twist the wires together, but whatever.

Terrible advise. It does not take much extra effort to simply solder the wires together. Why not do it properly the first time, and in the process learn how to solder. It's a win win.
