Excellent instructions. I did this today except to replace my heater control module. Its the same procedure. Wish I would have seen this video first. Couple of other suggestions for everyone. Once the radio is removed, MAKE SURE to write down the serial number of the stereo. If you don't have the stereo code, you will need the serial number to attain the security code from the dealership or a Honda website (you can look up via google). If you reinstall the factory radio, you will need the code to make the radio operational.

So I did the install yesterday, and it's not all that bad. Just tedious. But this video made it possible, I'd never have found all those screws otherwise. The only way I differed is that I didn't completely remove the panel on under the steering wheel. God knows I tried, but it wouldn't come free on the left side so I let it hang. It was loose enough to be out of the way for the rest of the work to be done.

Sorta what's happening at the junk yard... Most the people are putting things to pry with between the dash and the plastic around the radio, straight up ripping it out rendering loads of parts broken. Life in northern California...
@ryanpham3308
@ryanpham3308 4 жыл бұрын
@@alecfleming373, no different in Minnesota. The U-Pull-R-Parts closest to where I live had 5 1st-gen CR-Vs that had a torn-up dash panel, all for the radio/CD changer. Give or take, it was the one with the available cassette deck, but the things people will do these days just to save a few seconds for the parts...

Ash tray removal is NOT required. It may be helpful but since it takes a rare 90° screwdriver, I thought it worth mentioning. I've had that console apart many many times and I never did that step.

I've never owned a 90 degree screwdriver and I'm kind of a tool fanatic. In that situation I just use a 1/4" ratchet with a small socket that fits a screwdriver bit. Forget what size that is. Hope this helps someone that doesn't have a 90 driver but has a 1/4" ratchet and small sockets. But as said above, maybe that step isn't necessary.

The 2000 Crv I have has two square holes below the ashtray so the 90 degree screwdriver isn't needed. You just put the screwdriver from below straight up. The set of trim tools you should have to help pop things out are cheap to acquire online. Well worth it and I got them for under $10. Helps do the job right. Good video, very precise. Just keep track of which screws came from where.

I completed this today without removing the whole bottom section. Just need to take that panel under the steering wheel off and the glove box part. From there you can pry the sides of the midsection away and see the two screws on either side of the stereo and heating unit. It's a little tight but well worth the time savings taking a dozen or more screws out and the whole bottom section out! I used a small socket with a 2inch extention to get the screw on the driver's side.

most people are surprised to find out they have to remove all of these panels to get to the stereo. But if you own a crv and had to change your turn signal bulbs in the front you have to remove the grille, and the front bumper so that you can remove the headlight housing so you can access the turn signal bulbs. The oil filter is also a real pleasure to access, mounted horizontally above the exhaust manifold so you get to enjoy the smell of burnt oil (which if you own a Honda you have experienced at least once anyway) everytime you change your oil. Not to mention it is halfway up the engine compartment. This is why it costs so much in labor when you have these babies serviced at a mechanic. Some cars are not for the faint of heart. Excellent video, very easy to follow and understand and I feel confident in tackling this project in the next day or so to install a stereo for my GF in her 01 crv.

Rachael B that is all made on purpose to be pain in the butt, because that era was very popular for stealing stereos out of cars if u remember. Your dead clock is a 5 min job repair. Just pull it out and resolder 4 large solder traces on the corners of the back side pcb, that kills 99,99% of the crv clocks

Excellent video on how to remove! I love doing self repairs and maintenance on things, yet, I find that I don't always put them back together the original way it came. When I try to adjust the volume when playing music, it either gets louder or lower. I do have pot cleaning spray fluids to use, but would I have to still take the unit apart to gain access to it? I would consider replacing the original factory stereo/CD player with a new one, yet that would be another video for me to watch. I appreciate your terrific video, as it satisfied my curiosity and the mysteries of how to disassemble that part of the SUV. Have a Blessed Day!

BEFORE YOU PULL THE RADIO** If you're trying to find the serial number on the radio, simply pry under the "vents/clock/four-ways" above the radio and pull out the whole component. Then stick a cell phone with flash into the hole above your radio, take a picture and there it is.. Your serial number is right on top. You could use a mirror or something if not able to take picture but I don't think you'll be able to see the number without getting around some components. Hope this helps!

At the end of this video, the rectangular container underneath the actual head unit looks like it is attached ( @ 13:38). Is that container removable so that it can be used with a new, single DIN receiver? Thanks for the video/your help!!! @boblizcou
