Radio signals are good for short distance communication. Voyagers are already too far away for talking to them effectively. And they are still under the influence of our solar system. Trying to talk to someone in another galaxy is like sending a regular letter to a nearby Fire Station to inform them your house is on fire and asking them what to do. By the time the message comes back, it's waaaay too late. If we want to talk to another galaxy, we need to invent something faster than light.

And any civilizations in the universe that have figured THAT out probably wouldn't even bother with radio signals - either sending or monitoring - unless they had passed through their own radio astronomy phase themselves and were still 'keeping an ear out' for radio signals from less advanced civilizations.

Yeah, theres no reason to think that these signals couldnt get warped over long distances, reaching us with our radio "codes". We would have to translate their signals and vise versa. Causing them to be unuseable. By the tume those signals reach us they have probly flowen to us

60 million years from this galaxy, specifically. There are small galaxies within the hundreds or even tens of thousands of light years distance, though, orbiting the the Milky Way (the Megellanic Clouds being the most famous) But still, unless we get some Warp Drives or something, we won’t be asking them to come over for Netflix and chill

Kind of spooky, that if we were to receive an intelligent radio signal from a source, say 1 billion light years away, we would be hearing what they were saying 1 billion years ago. The day we receive that signal, they may no longer even exist, maybe their star went supernova a million years after sending that message.

Nice sentiment but you should check out the results of a 2009 randomized control study on intercessory prayer: "This study showed that remote intercessory prayer did not improve outcomes after coronary artery bypass graft surgery. In fact, the knowledge of being prayed for was associated with a slightly but significantly higher rate of postsurgical complications." So it might be best to not inform the intended recipient of your prayers that you pray for them.

@@infinitemonkey917 You keep someone in your prayers to keep them in your thoughts. You keep them in your thoughts because they matter to you, because they represent some goodness in the world that is important for you to celebrate lest goodness should be extinguished from the world altogether. Having someone in your thoughts helps to remove that barrier we all have between one another as strangers. In a time of need are you more likely to help someone whom represents positivity for you, or someone whom you despise, or are even indifferent towards? As always fantastic I wish I had lots and lots of cash to just sponsor you out right maybe one day I'll have a job that feeds me and my friends and takes care of my utilities but I'll ask my skill sets which are amazing and my knowledge in this country are repaired by offers of jobs of labor that as little money as they could possibly pay legally. Hence why years in days grill closer to an end for building models to test the parameters of this universe, to experiment and prove or disprove what I know exists through science in observation

Is there a way to detect artificially entangled particsls used for communication, if we can maybe we should in tandem search for those types of signals as well.

Considering the near infinity of the universe, and the exotic elements, energies, bodies, and near infinite combinations thereof, I think anomalous radio detection is a nothingburger. Of course there's going to be a lot of weird electromagnetic noise. Unless it's saying in clear English "Shut up, they'll hear you," I'm not much interested.

No, I don't get that sense. He does correctly need to see evidence before he attributes anything to aliens though. And the fact is these types of things have ALWAYS been proved to NOT be aliens before.

Do they ever run these signals through things like old satellite antennas and hook them up to a TV of send them there an am/fm frequency. To see what happens. Do you think they have tried things like that at all. I’m jest wondering because what if there is something out there trying to contact us but we are jest using the wrong thing to understand it

The content would be unpredictable, based as it is on enculturation. However, our current and recently past light emissions would be recognizable as a form of artificial technological data.

One thing for certain is., that one day, perhaps in the far distant future, astronomers in a different galaxy will pick up mysterious signals from a place they will learn eventually, called Earth. I mean - it's not like we have been quiet or hiding our small world. We make all kinds of sounds. I'm just curious what they would think of our music (especially rock and roll) and our TV broadcasts. Assuming these signals have not degraded so bad they are indecipherable. And I wonder if Earth will still be here when that happens. In my own personal opinion - any signals that would survive that kind of distance would be unrecoverable and be interpreted as nothing more than noise. Maybe some of these signals we get are from intelligent life somewhere, just far too weak to understand as anything but space noise.

Hey Anton, What do you think our signature looks like from their? perspective. Are we obvious to someone looking? And how does our presence reflect in the background.
@Booyabocka
@Booyabocka 2 жыл бұрын
It seems this always gets ignored, but if gravity affects light, then gravity can affect radio signals. With this in mind, a perfectly symmetrical and syncopated signal can be distorted by various gravity sources during its lightyears of travel towards us, and finally arrives as a chaotic mess of random noise.
