It's a funny thing that happened when I listened to this podcast. I had listened late in the evening and, to my shame, fell asleep. But, in my dreams, I dreamed of a discussion of A Song of Ice and Fire and half asleep and half awake, the words of the podcast blended with my dreams. When I woke up fully, I had to laugh as this might be the closest thing I'll ever experienc to skinchanging or warging we'll ever have in this world.

Wow, how much I like your conclusions at the end of the video: justice and life flowing from Ned's actions, him alive in the best parts of his sons, daughters and the North; opposed to Lannister's legacy, fighting so hard to win, while in the end death only remains of them!

I was definitely excited when I saw this pop up in my notifications. Listened to the whole thing and as usual, I am loving it! Great job once again. I've listened to your whole library at least 3 times. I'll drink a glass of my finest Arbor gold to your health and toast GRRM, and here's to continued faith that Winds of Winter is coming soon, hopefully. Your show is a brilliant salve for the seemingly unending wait. Thank you so much for enhancing my appreciation for this beautifully complex and deep story.

Great episode guys. You both have such great voices for this material. If there was some way that you could join up with Aziz and Ashaya at HoWP, and have the four of you record your own audiobooks for GRRM's writings, I would totally listen to that. (legal issues notwithstanding :)

Thrilled to see a new episode, and about Ned Stark to boot. About Harrenhal, though, I've always wondered how Rhaegar even got those blue roses to make a laurel for Lyanna in the first place. Aren't they only found in the North? There was something strangely premeditated about that gesture.
@RadioWesteros8 жыл бұрын
Actually other than the fact that winter roses were once grown in the WInterfell greenhouse, we're not given much information on where else they might come from (in other words, that's probably not their exclusive source) I've always found that the simplest and most likely explanation is that no matter who the recipient was going to be, the queen of love and beauty's crown was made of winter roses. (it being the "False Spring" there's a certain logic to winter roses simply being what was available) Their association with Lyanna in the story (mostly in Ned's PoV) and her own affection for them could just as well have come about as a result of the events of the Tourney as anything preceding them.
@elizabethhenry66058 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the answer. That makes sense, but I still wonder if there's something more to it. Just one other question: do you think Ned would have put Theon to death had Balon rebelled again? Theon was also a child being (essentially) punished for his father's actions. In fact, if anyone at all has a view on this I'd like to hear it. It's another thing I've always wondered about. I think it would have been a real conflict between Ned's sense of honour and sense of duty.

Always a pleasure listening to you. I have two particular interests. Tyrion as I'm fascinated by that character, and Dorne because I would love to hear your thoughts on the Dornish conspiracy, and enjoy a bit to compensate the atrocity the show has committed. After what you did with little finger and this episode, Arya's episode feels short and shallow. You have spoiled me. Feed me Seymour! thanks for excellent work

Thanks so much for the support! We intend to cover all of the above, including a proper Arya episode, after TWoW is released :)

Ned liked to tell stories, but not necessarily recounts on actual events. I interpreted this tale as a howland reed legend told without specific references to challenge his children's critical thinking maybe. The way the story is vague about whether or not howland is the specific crannogman mentioned or not. It is told as if it could be thousands of years ago. Bran hasn't heard it because it's not a true legend but a veiled but revealing recount of his experience at harrenhall
@kerrybrennan70998 жыл бұрын
Meant to say 'maybe Ned liked' up there as I don't like to come across as though I know the story better than anyone else. Thanks for another great installment to the ongoing discussion. Great way to pass the time while we wait for winds.
@RadioWesteros8 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much! We agree with you completely, the question is why Ned avoids talking about these events. Painful or dangerous memories seems like a good reason.

What if we have all been wrong about The Promise. What if The Promise wasn't to keep Jon's identity hidden but rather that Ned would put make sure Jon inherited his birthright. That Ned would do everything in his power to put Jon on the Iron Throne. And that is why Ned feels he broke his promises. If The Promise was to hide Jon to keep him safe Ned fulfilled his promises perfectly. This one little detail has been like a tiny pebble in my shoe. Why does Ned feel he broke his promises?

I'm really enjoying all these uploads... but as to Ned, I wonder about what Twin says when he is talking about Robb... that he is his father's son.... and that seems to indicate that something in Ned's history indicates that Robb would marry Jane and renig on his betrothal to a Frey. Ned was not betrothed... so how is this any comparison. What does Tywin know? Did Ned actually steal a baby? How did Ned dishonor himself and Cat in front of Gods and Men? There is something here that doesn't make sense.
