We need gear with loads of buttons and knobs 😂. Actually looks like a nice little rig. Id certainly consider it, be a good rig for a newbie who wants to "test the waters" Radioddity could bring a real ssb cb contender to the table with a similar design perhaps!

I have an old Lafayette CB radio that works, and I bought a Bear cat 980. Seems like I'm only into it when I watch Fred's videos. I did a call out once. The guy replied back, 'Yeah, I'm here.'. That blew my skirt. My 1st step is buying that A/C D/C converter, second getting SWR sorted out (my damned soldering). I was careful!. I want to play with OTA television antenna first! Possible 360 Rotator. So that's that... Cheers.

It's a great radio, it supports 10m HAM too, at 20w TX power... Also, you know the "full sized base radio" you said "doesn't exist", it actually does! That is the AT-5555Nii or QT60. Also, the same company that makes the President radios, makes this CB-500 (AT-500M2) as well. Same factory. Same tech inside. 73

Well done fred-get ready for fm+ctcss,fm voip gateways,ctcss split tones simplex parrot repeaters. Ive been testing the AT-500 I version can say its fab bit of kit in field and on test bench,this version mk II has smaller pcb,added repeater shift+/-,split ctcss tones now,NRC ,scan skip +,alpha channels. CTCSS+Fm is a game changer Fred,no more noise blasts while driving around mobile to base! I use a system similar to PMR-446 channel xx-ctcss xx ie ch14-14 tone ,ch 15-15 etc you can store ctcss\dcs per channel how about ch19-19 Theres a lot more it can do but dont wont to spoil the surprises! have fun with it,Looks a great starter set with lots of hidden features too. 73 Rob.P

Quick note on power Fred, i bought the PNI Escort HP 9001 (same as the delta lt 318/thunderpole T2000) but when i finally got the "Hi" to display on the screen, the output jumped to between 10 and 16 watts!!!! So im guessing that little rigs got a similar "button push sequence" buried in there somewhere.

Everyone told me chinese ham radios were garbage. Now im not claiming that they are just as good as Japanese radios but I bought a uv5r years ago and it worked great. I recently bought a uv9r waterproof radio for 26 dollars. It works fantastic and is in fact waterproof. I bought ten more and handed them out to neighbors and family. Every person I contacted said my audio was great and I have reached out just as far or farther than more expensive radios because I bought a great antenna. My anytone mobile is amazing and plenty loud enough to hear while driving. I won't think twice about buying a CB radio from china. I know anytone retevis and baofeng are all reliable and work well. Maybe spurious emissions are a problem but they haven't been so far. At least in my experience.

Your right. Things have moved on a lot in recent years. People have said that this radio is built in the same factory as a President.
@johnmayer1588 ай бұрын
I bought the Anytone 6666 mobile radio, and love it. However, be advised in handing out radios, make sure that those you hand them out to, don't transmit on amateur band frequencies without having a valid amateur radio license. CBs are one thing, but ham is completely different. Just a friendly heads up/warning to prevent and hassles/ legal trouble.
@wildweasel68987 ай бұрын
@@johnmayer158 I programed frs and gmrs frequencies into them for an emergency and channelized them. I know that's not legal either but honestly I'm not worried about it. They only use them in fires and I told them the law. I operate my radios above board so I don't think it's that bad. I told them only to listen unless we are about to lose property or life so it should be fine.
@horseathalt73082 ай бұрын
@@johnmayer158 In the USA it's no problem. We have the legal right to use the public airwaves as we see fit.

Do you have any videos on CB lingo? I was just wondering, as I’m thinking of getting my first CB radio but I feel silly as I don’t know the lingo and wouldn’t want to say something wrong. Do you ever get newbies joining CB and they don’t know what they are doing? As I’ll literally be seeing if I can pick up anyone and don’t want to sound stupid on my first connection if I managed to speak to someone 🙈
@CB-RADIO-UK7 ай бұрын
In the UK we really dont speak the lingo any more. There are some call signs and people on SSB use some Q codes which take a bit of getting used to. i would like to hear the NR/NB with the "Hic-Cut" switched off. "high-cut" cuts also the higher tones in the modulation, the audio sounds then more muffled, not a good thing to do. the NR/NB should be able to cut the high toned noises, without having to use the "high-cut". the NR makes that sound like talking through a waterfall, not good.
@CB-RADIO-UK7 ай бұрын
I would not say muffled but the Hi Cut helps with the high hiss you get on FM which can become annoying.
