Radioddity GD-88: Fix for Loud Minimum Volume

I had to remove the firmware because of a Request from Kydera, but they've now provided a different version that is on my website for download and also has the volume fix in it. Please give it a try and let me know of any changes you find. Download link is in the video description.

It seems to have fixed the volume bar lagging. But It messes up the Single Zone display. I am going to reflash the March 2023 firmware.

Inverted and reversed my display....but solved the volume problem...still trying to fix the display...

Did you figure it out? If not there's an instruction in one of the previous firmware released on radioddity's website with instructions on holding a certain button when turning the radio on to fix this

I installed the old FW and it's back to the old state...volume problem remains ...hope Radioddity gets their version of the fix soon

I Tried the Unofficial june 2023 firmware. Radio booted to upside-down pink russian gibberish. Reverted back to march 2023 firmware.

The firmware listed on your page unfortunately did not work for my late model GD-88. The display test and graphics were all blackwards. I had to roll back to the 3/30/23 firmware, which I did successfully.

Did you try the trick to flip the display? The instructions are in the release notes for the newer radioddity firmwares

I have not seen one for "flipping the displsy" but will investigate. I have seen the fix for a white screen, but I do not interpret my situation as being that.

Hi, ich habe auch die Kydera vom 3. Juni probiert und bin vom verdrehten Bildschirm betroffen. Grüne Taste beim EInschalten brachte leider nichts. dennnoch habe ich die Lautstärke getestet! sie wäre perfekt wenn der Bildschirm richtig wäre. Ich hoffe auf Besserung.

I used google translate to understand you. I hope they will release more firmware but I doubt it. Chinese radio manufacturers often abandon their products before they finish fixing all the issues. The latest firmware from radioddity is still March 2023 so they've probably given up already.

Has anyone noticed on this new firmware that when you receive a call in analog from a repeater or simplex. That the animation on the screen the arrow is not animated any longer? I have that issue with mine. Im going to roll back to the march firmware and see if it comes back or not.

there are some videos outthere, that show that these animation can cause "noises" in analog, .. so it looks like they decidet to make it static on analog

I hope someone from AnyTone sees this. I really have a hard time with this issue on my AT 878UV+. I’m ready to buy a DMR HH from any manufacturer that fixes what should be an easy issue and common issue with many DMR radios.

Wow, I didn't realise anytone also had that issue. Everyone goes on about how good the anytone radios are. That would be super annoying for me. If you want a radio that definitely won't have this issue, the Ailunce HD1 has an analog volume control so you can turn it down to extremely low levels if your dexterity is good enough 😂

@@radiosification Yep. It’s been a problem with AnyTone for a long time. Some people suggest tape as a work-around or say it is the senders gain that is too high. However I would argue the falloff of the volume on these radios is just too great. They are either silent or too loud for a quiet environment. Thanks for the info on the HD1!

The DMR AGC feature in OpenGD77 fixes this issue on radios that support that firmware.

They've given me a new update now so my last comment can be ignored. The volume fix is publicly available for the Kydera radios (and the firmware usually always works on radioddity ones anyway too).

There is a new firmware update from radioddity that was released today for the gd-88 I am going to download and update here soon. Hope it fixes problems with the volume issues and others and works with all GD-88's

@@radiosification I installed the firmware on my radio it seems to be the same as the kydara one. I tried on my buddy's GD-88 and I get upsidedown boot screen and pink garbled main screen and I tried it four different times still the same I see it came with some other flash or something for some issues but I don't know what you do with that file

Has anyone tested if the fix applies to the headphone/audio out jack as well? A moment ago I made the mistake of hooking up a headphone adapter to some earbuds with a good tight seal and turned the volume up from muted onto the first notch with the squelch off... just about blew my drum out I think 🤕

I haven't tested it but I would guess it should work. Why not just try it yourself? The worst that will happen is that it doesn't work and you have to put the previous firmware on

I emailed radioddity about a new firmware and they informed me that there should be an updated version coming out sometime this month . And they say it will address the volume problem. So people that had problems with this kydara one should have a working firmware soon.

the "digital" mimimum Volume was not so crazy than the "analog" minimum audio .. does this fix also lower the "analog" minimum volume ?

im complete new to radios, are all chinese cheap bad? is all analog bad compared to dpnr, is dmr or dpnr better? can dmr work on old analog channels?

Cheap Chinese radios are not all bad. They tend to just have a lot more bugs than you'd expect. Some models are good and the companies are competent. Analog, DMR and dPMR all have situations where one mode is better than the other. None are terrible. Any digital mode can work on any channel if the bandwidth of the channel is big enough. They won't talk to an analog radio though unless you program the channel as an analog one but at that point you may as well be using an analog radio.

My buddy's GD-88 when I update to this new firmware his radio the boot up screen is upside down and then it goes pink on the main screen. I tried the power on and hold the green button. But it doesn't do anything. His serial ends with 1217 so it's older then my radio Mine is 1287. So I don't know what else to try?

@@bbroken1 with my radio it didn't work the first time, I had to try a couple of times to get the display working. So maybe try it a few times and see if it makes a difference. Other than that I don't have any ideas. I don't think you can really ask radioddity for help with this latest one since it's not their firmware - it's kydera's so only officially supports kydera radios. It might be that your friend will just have to wait until the official version from radioddity comes out

Yes, I'm not sure what will happen. It seems like something to do with drama about radioddity and Kydera but I don't know the full details. Hopefully things will get sorted out and there will be some solution.
