This is re-edit of a review I originally posted on Jan 2nd, 2018 which was recently copyright claimed and blocked by the Beggars Group, the parent company of XL Records. Instead of fighting it, I thought I'd try my luck at editing the original video to bring it more inline with my current reviews by cutting out the backstory and packaging segments of the video. I also cut down the length and number of music clips used. Overall, this new version is 14min shorter than the original. I had plans of making the "making of the record" segment its own video but after watching it and the recent public release of the OK Computer demos, I decided it would be better to make a more in-depth video on the subject. Thanks for the continued support!

It has earned its comparison to The Dark Side of the Moon =] Speaking of which, they were able to do the cyclic bookend thing that Roger Waters seem to have employed on Pink Floyd and his solo work (TDSOTM begins and ends with a heartbeat; WYWH has Shine On; Animals has Pigs on the Wing, etc.). The cries of “slowing down” on The Tourist could be heard as a warning to someone driving too fast ... and you get Airbag. Hell, The Tourist ends with a triangle hit, which you could hear as the crash and leading into the frenzy of Airbag. I’ve always liked Fitter Happier because it’s the modern living checklist. But in spite of all the well-meaning aims, it all gets undercut by the final lines: “A pig in a cage on antibiotics”. While it does make a good, even great, closer to Side “Meeny”, I think it works as a warm-up to Side “Miney” or a kind of intermission, providing a nice lead-in to the intense Electioneering (the chorus is an excellent two-finger sentiment: “when I go forwards, you go backwards, and somewhere we will meet”).

“Frosting on a razor blade” perfect description.....hey, your pretty good at this. A perfect record and then they go and make Kid A and redefine themselves and what pop music can be. Not since Darkside had a record hung together so well for me. No other band occupies the bandwidth between my ears and rarely does a day go by without me humming or referencing a song in their vast catalog. So much joy!

@fowlae44145 жыл бұрын
Ralph Clark it’s not prog. It’s complex at parts, but there are few jazz and modern classical influences compared to King Crimson, for example.
@X-boomer5 жыл бұрын
@@fowlae4414 Although this kind of genre classification is moot really (and has become increasingly difficult with the proliferation of crossover genres) just calling it "alternative rock" is a cop out so I would have to disagree. It's not overtly a fusion form like Crimson or ELP, but neither was the Floyd. And like Pink Floyd , Radiohead is much much more than just Rock, it goes beyond that, exploring complex overlaying of different time signatures, strange modulations... composing this stuff requires a deeply technical understanding of music you can normally only acquire by studying it at university as an academic subject. It deserves the label of progressive rock because it *is* a progression beyond rock and it's as rich and complex and experimental as any of the greatest prog rock bands.

I've been slowly immersing myself in to the music of radiohead since the release of Moon Shaped Pool. It's a bit strange me having not made space to listen to them in the past quarter century, but I have been passionate about other musics, plus busy with work and family, so their turn has just come. The way I have approached them is to figure out who has made the most interesting new rock since the classic rock era. I loved a lot of the Americana stuff, but felt ready for this now, and they are the peak by the look of things. This in the form of OKNOTOK is blissful as a triple lp, listened to mainly one side at a time, and at different times of the day as well. MSP is also sublime. I will get on to a vinyl Kid A next, then start exploring the other EP's not on these 3, and then start checking out their concerts here on the tube and as radio captures. Please advise if there is a better approach than that i have outlined and started on. Thanks for your hard work VR.

OK is really imho the album Pink Floyd should’ve made instead of THE WALL. It is truly a poignant album that suggests a fear of the 21st century that wasn’t totally unfounded or unfamiliar. AirBag is such a great song and No Surprises is the doorbell mashup hymn that is almost subconscious. Nothing on the WALL comes close to those two songs except comfortably numb.
