IMHO Animals is the absolute first album I go to when I’m in a Floyd mood, regardless of how the members feel about it. Creativity doesn’t necessarily correlate to listenability. Dogs is an amazing song that I never, ever tire of. It’s sad that the great mind of Waters turned him into a intolerable egomaniac. I always felt bad for Rick Wright, as his keyboard playing was intrinsic in creating their sound. Miss that guy 😔

"Creativity doesn't correlate to listenability." That's quite false perspective tbh, I mean both creativity and listenability can also coexist together i.e. Both this album and basically any Coldplay's early release are similarly laid back and simple and practically easy to listen, but ultimately which one is really the better, most listenable album for you? Pink Floyd is one of my absolute favorite acts. What's really weird is that the last Pink Floyd album I ever bought was wish you were here. And with the resurgence of vinyl the last decade or so and all the talk about acts from those days I've been doing a lot of soul searching about why I don't seem to have albums from some of my favorite acts. By the way for some background, I graduated from high school in 1972. But I think I found the reason. In the early part of the 1970s I became a bit of an audiophile, culminating with me building my own dynaco 400 amplifier and a pat 5 preamp. And that followed with me becoming a Hi-Fi salesman in 1976 through 1982. The stores I worked at also had an album selection and I was able to crack open albums from time to time and listen to them and use them to demonstrate systems. What happened was my musical taste temporarily changed to focus more on classical music and "audiophile" recordings. This is also when I became a huge fan of bands like return to forever. And then in the '80s I started raising a family and focusing more on surround sound systems for movies and stuff like that. So around 10 years ago I started picking up where I left off. It's kind of comical that suddenly I am trying to collect all those old Pink Floyd albums and a lot of the stuff that came out after 1975 from bands I liked but I never purchased their stuff. By the way, the one exception would be genesis. I bought everything they ever produced except for calling all stations. Watching comfortably numb on the pulse DVD still brings an emotional response from me. The music coupled with the light show is one of the most tremendous examples of live music I've ever experienced. Meanwhile, I'm just starting to get into animals.

From "Dark Side of the Moon" through to "The Wall"...no band that I know besides Led Zeppelin has ever created such a musical statement over 4 consecutive albums. These guys were brilliant together as far as the music goes. Unfortunately Roger wanted total control over that aspect of it too which basically put an end to that. I saw 2 Pink Floyd concerts without Roger being there and they were both awesome. The effects and everything were very well received by a Detroit audience and it proved to me that one man don't make a band great, they all have to do it for it to be great. Roger was left out of that party.

@@vitoguido3258 I love "Yes" and Peter Gabriel, both with and without Genesis, but neither of these bands came anywhere close to having the kind of impact Floyd has had. You ask someone like my dad- who unfortunately passed a few years back- who Yes or Peter Gabriel is and he would've had no idea- he played bluegrass music and hated rock, pop, etc.- but he knew who Pink Floyd was. MY mother- same way- her favorite artist is Ann Murray- but she knows who Pink Floyd is, everyone does. When I was a kid growing up in the late 70s, early 80s- I knew who they were before I even started listening to music. I already knew who they were and was curious to hear their music because I had heard so much about it through pop culture, my older siblings, etc. I had never heard of Yes though- or Peter Gabriel- in fact the only other musical talent I knew of at that age was Zepplin. They were just as talked about, just as large of a part of pop culture as Floyd was.

@@stoneysdead689 Hence why I mentioned the lack of credit due. However, while Floyd's early stuff is interesting, to say the least, Dark Side of the Moon through The Wall only accounts for 5 out of like 14 albums. While their presence was certainly felt in the mainstream, Yes' and Genesis influence was just felt throughout the Prog world at large, in my opinion and the body of substantial work to offer far exceeds that of Floyd. Still, at the end of the day, I'm a junky for all of it.

I missed the Cleveland show on this tour. Whhaaaahhhh!!!!!! But made up for it by seeing The Wall at Nassau Coliseum in February 1980. Up to then, the best show I'd ever seen! And remains the same to this day!

Roger sounded like the most insufferable person ever the way he behaved toward his band mates and the crew during that tour but I don’t blame him for getting pissed off at fans letting off fireworks which does ruin the experience and puts other people in harms way.

Constant touring and being away from your family will make one quite jaded and miserable. Being on the road is great when youre young but as you get older youre pretty much over it.

I’m a huge fan of Rogers ,and I can’t deny the artistic presence of the rest of the members of the band , especially David G virtuosity. But if you look at the Rogers solo albums you might be able to see why he is pink.

The only good solo album from Roger is The Final Cut and that's because Dave and Nick play on it.

And yet he wasn't Pink. He didn't sing the majority of the material, and David wrote ALL of the guitar virtuosity, which is 90% of what hooks you into listening to Floyd. Roger was an incredible lyricist, and an average musician. His solo albums were awful, and The Final Cut was the worst PF album next to Ummagumma.

Never forget the rain and umbrellas coming up from the floor as the rain stopped the umbrellas came down and a double rainbow 🌈 broke behind the stage as the Floyd was coming out! A Concert that was only topped by the Wall concert on my bday feb 10 at the Forum in LA.

It's so hard to watch people talk about a band with none of the band's music in the video. I understand that Pink Floyd music might be outside the budget of a youtube channel, but it's still a bummer.

WOW...ok... For those of you who blame the bands "end" on their "egos", it's pretty obvious there was only one ego that split them up. MY hat's off to David, Nick and especially Rick, for tolerating Roger as long as they did. If it weren't for his ability to write the lyrics so well, they probably would have said F*** this much sooner.
@Rasputin4435562 жыл бұрын
Considering that he also wrote music better than they did and faster, they really didn't have an option. The guy may well have been a total ass, but considering the shoddy quality of the records they made without him, it's hard to fault him.
