We always roll out the old stuff - feels like flying a whole new plane again. Well, at least in the little Hornets case.... that Falconis a bit of a spongy wobbly mess. If another plane comes in, I think that one is overdue it's retirement now.

Isn't it - and it continues on. I'm expecting to take at least another plane out of retirement and fly it using a mix of SBUS and PWM when the 3.3 code drops

If Radiomaster made these available in 433MHz then people who have been hanging on to systems such as Dragonlink and EzUHF would buy them like hotcakes.

I know in the olden days (or just 10 years ago) 433 was king, but with a 100km flight being done on a 2.4Ghz ELRS diversity RX (albeit with a module putting out 2W) you've got to wonder if 433 is really needed now. I, for one, certainly don't miss the size of those antennas! Someone did make an experimental 433 RX on ELRS, I guess it's just a question of will that catch on though.

You can keep ch 5 for a three position gyro mode switch by changing the receiver type to 16 divided by 2 to have a fully proportional channel 5.

I had asked you this 2 or 3 days ago about that particular . I really like your unconventional approach getting the bixler out of the hangar and check how that old system had been configured to kind of remember what your thoughts had been (like mixing) back then and how to adopt it into the new ELRS world. But I guess I had mad a mistake all the months before waiting for a 6 channel pwm receiver cause you mentiones or emphasized this time for the plane pilots among us WITHOUT A FLIGHT CONTROLLER that this would be for us. and I have only planes with FC and had not been using it due to missing channels. What also makes me wonder: the previous pwm had a 5 th channel that could be used by reducing latency if I remember right to get a fluent instead of a stuttery servo motion. On previous systems I had to buy an 8 channel transmitter to benefit from an 8 channel receiver but it feels somehow that for elrs it is no longer the case cause those channel bandwith has been used for low latency before so every transmitter had already built in 8 channels only used differently. Not sure but I had seen that packet and resolutionthing somewhere in a video and also forgot about it more or less. But I am still unsure if I would need to buy any of these pwm receivers or if I could achieve the same result with the usual tiny elrs receiver connected to a FC. Our mostly older guys are flying usually older systems for over a decade cause they usually have crashed 20 years ago the last time and fly balsa planes they had built up from scratch, so they rely on the 8 channel transmitter and 8 channel receiver thinking from whom I learned a lot when I came to the RC plane hobby from submarines that are a complete different world with the older 27 Mhz radios to penetrate through water. thanks a lot and maybe it might be time for an elrs basics video too cause a lot of my planes from the field are fearing a collapse of their old radio and how to replace that. Some have started to buy old systems from craiglist or pilots who retired and some are not prepared thinking it could not be that complicated to get used to the new systems.

watched till the very end and also found the answers regarding the general transmitter being capable of up to 16 channel from 3.3 onwards. Great video even though it took quite a while to watch but was worth every minute and of cause fun to watch too.

@@typxxilps A bottom-up retrofit into an existing 8ch setup would be interesting, and you've highlighted the need for some of our guys still holding off adopting newer RC Tx's. Seeing ELRS on a nitro-powered balsa build would be awesome, kind of mind blowing, (as a reformed balsa and nitro junkie) lol

No shortage of reviews of these new RM receivers. A frenzy of releases by all and sundry 😁 Seriously though thanks for actually putting the effort into give the receiver's a real test in a model rather than just a bench overview Brilliant informative video 👍 I have had to revert to my trusty FTDI adapter quite a few times to recover a failed flash but that relies on their being a UART to connect to.. Just wonder how you would recover one of these receivers if a WiFi flash fails.. ??? Thanks again for the excellent video

That is an interesting question. I did want to open one up as I thought about using my existing antennas on the larger wing. But there didn't seem to be a simple way of opening up and I didn't want to bugger it up before I used it. I presume all of them will have pins to connect to in the event of a failed flash - it's standard for this hardware and RM have always done a good job of working with the ELRS devs to make sure their HW is good. Buy at this point, I don't know and there is no mention in the manual about it

I keep hovering over the buy button for the ER4 but hesitating. It says 4 servo outputs & voltage telemetry, which I need in a small package. However it looks like if you have 4 servo's there is no where to plug the esc into the receiver? Is this in effect really a 3 channel receiver?
@CurryKitten
@CurryKitten Жыл бұрын
It's 4 channels, but your throttle channel would need to be one of those... but that means only 3 servos with it - but that covers wings and most of your traditional planes as well with elevator/aileron/throttle/rudder channels.

.... Are there any range problems when flying a glider?... I thought I saw something online about radiomaster Not working with the fly sky receiver
@CurryKitten

Your question is a little confusing as I'm dealing with ELRS Rx's here, but you are asking about FlySky? So you are presumably talking about RadioMaster with the 4-in1 multiprotocol module? I have to say I haven't used FlySky in over 12 years due to the fact that range was dodgy and there was no telemetry to warn me about the signal dropping. I do use FrSky occasionally on multiprotocol and htere's no range issue there - but you do need to tune the frequency offset to get the absolute best out of it (which I did a video on a while back kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4DPqJhrbNGbasU&ab_channel=CurryKitten )

I am just getting started with my son. I have a frsky Taranis plus 2019 and two receivers - x4r and x8r. Want to get into DLG gliders later. Trying to decide if I should go with Frsky receivers with variometer or start switching to ELRS. Thoughts?
@CurryKitten
@CurryKitten 9 ай бұрын
It kind of depends if that will be all the RX's you will ever buy, If so, then you could go with the FrSky version and carry on. But as the FrSky versions of RX's seem to be around double the price of ELRS equivalents, if you see yourself getting more models (and thus RX's) in the future, I can see the ELRS module paying for itself very quickly. That and you are pretty much future proofing yourself. I don't see FrSky doing any actual development and releasing new stuff - not that their existing RX's are bad or anything (I still have lots of them installed) it's just the newest ELRS stuff is better in terms of range/singal/telemetry/features.
@kqharvey
@kqharvey 9 ай бұрын
@@CurryKitten thanks so much for the advice. Yes, I do plan on getting more models in the future. I suppose you would recommend the radiomaster module for my x9d? How much better is the elrs range compared to frsky?
@CurryKitten
@CurryKitten 9 ай бұрын
@@kqharvey Yes - I do really like the quality of RadioMaster stuff. As for how much further, well the range record using 2.4Ghz ELRS is over 100km (albeit at a high power output) I got to around 6km with my L9R on FrSky and 2km ish on the little XM+'s. The key element here is that you have a much clearer picture on how your link is doing. Were FrSky might give you an RSSI telemetry which essentially fails if it goes under 40, ELRS will give you a proper dBm RSSI along with a link quality stat - which you can tie in with dynamic power. I've not run out of range yet - but I haven't really pushed past a few km lately and there's more to range than simply the RX's themselves

I don't really understand it, but apparantly people do it :) Actually, I do have an exception to the rule - I have a little DLG glider and that's fun to throw up in the air and try and glide it back to you. i don't think FPV would help me too much in that case
